Background of the Study

Here the researcher focuses solely on the novel as one of the ways to do this. Now many novels become the basis of writing cinematic scripts, and then become films. In other cases, the events may be described from the point of view of a person outside the story.

A Christmas Carol is one of the famous novels of Charles Dickens, the most popular novel he wrote. In the fairy tales, Dickens combines a somewhat indirect description of the hardships faced by the poor with a heart-wrenching, sentimental celebration of the Christmas season. Social status can be shaped by several things, including an individual's role, wealth, power, and more.

Identification of the Problem

In addition, this novel can also inspire readers to help each other and love their fellow man. The third reason is that the researcher was interested in the figure of Scrooge Ebenezer because in the end he could turn out to be a good person and can live happily in society. The researcher uses psychoanalytical theory as an approach to analyze this novel because the story of the novel is about personality development which refers to people's struggle to change their character to be better.

Based on the above explanation, the researcher decides to conduct the research entitled Development of Human Personality-Perfection Reflected in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol Novel (1843).

Data Information

Data Description

  • Social Status of The Main Characters
  • Social Relationship of The Main Characters

It is enough for a man to understand his own business and not to meddle in other people's. He was known to become a good businessman who likes to help the other people and be respectful or celebrate Christmas. He looked so irresistibly pleasant, and afterwards, of all the happy sounds he had ever heard, they were the wildest to his ears.”.

He does all this, and very much, until there is nothing, and for Tiny Tim he did not die, Scrooge became his second father.” Social status in this case deals with the education of the main characters and their lives. He had to know the administration, how to plan his business well for a good profit.

Joakim was his only executor, his only administrator, but he was an excellent businessman. So the people who didn't care about him saw that Ebenezer Scrooge had an intermediate education, but Ebenezer Scrooge had a company. It can be seen in the following statements: "Joakim buttons his great - coat to the chin."

In this case the writer wants to discuss the relationship between the main characters and the other characters around them. So it can make Scrooge very close-minded, miserly and not caring about other people. He sounded so sweet and then, of all the sweet sounds he had ever heard, they were the worst to his ears.

He never dreamed that any walk - anything - could bring him so much happiness."

Data Interpretation

In here, the author directly illustrated who the main character never respected with the other people every day. If he always lives alone, it can make him not respect and not know other people around him. According to Graham Little (1966), the dialogue is not a good personality Scrooge with the other people.

So, he is always busy with his work, and he doesn't want to know what other people are important to him. In the dialogue, Scrooge described whom he only respects and never listens to the other people. He is like a man who doesn't need other people in his life and keeps himself busy.

Here Scrooge described him as not caring about other people. He does not like it when people disturb him and interfere with the interests of other people. So he doesn't care about other people around him and never cares about others.

Now he understands the true meaning of Christmas and he started asking for forgiveness to other people whose attitude is not good. He understands the true meaning of Christmas and he started asking for forgiveness to other people whose attitude is not good. Maybe they don't believe that he is always lonely and never attacks other people.

It could be the following statement: “He went to church, walked the streets and saw people hurrying.

Conclusion

He changed his behavior to care for other people around him and become a good people in the world. As the writer knows, the causes of Scrooge's change in behavior are the ghost of Marley and three ghosts. Marley, his business partner, comes on the evening of Christmas Eve, then the three ghosts come to him at a different time, but on the same day, the night before Christmas.

On the day of Christmas Eve, Scrooge changed his behavior and people smiled as they looked at him in the street. The story tells about problem solving, love, family, relationships and the luxury of life in the city. Now all the people in his town and his family love and like him after he changed his behavior.

Now we understand how the character development in the main character in the novel of a Christmas Carol.
