The researcher realizes that the writing of this thesis is far from perfect yet the simplest. HALIM and HASNAH who always motivate, educate, advise, support and pray for the researcher's success.
Background of the Research
It is one of the media that can help the students develop their knowledge about the topic of the text. When students read some text, they will get information easily if they understand the images. Therefore, the teacher must provide some images to help students understand the content of a text.
For example, if the teacher teaches students who live or stay in the village environment, it is better to show the text with the picture placed with animals or plants.

From these definitions above, the researcher concludes that reading is an effort of the students to get or convey the meaning and information from the text by understanding, comprehending, translating and giving meaning to the written form. In this strategy, the students try to guess the meaning of the words when they are not sure if they do not know the meanings of the words, a grammatical relationship, a discourse relationship, a cultural one. This strategy allows the students to have practice making questions and then answering them themselves.
Prediction means that readers use their background knowledge to negotiate the meaning of the text. These stages are based on the students' experience and not on their age or grade level. In the pre-reading phase, the teacher activates background knowledge, sets goals, introduces important vocabulary terms, makes predictions, and discusses the text with students beforehand.
In the second phase, students begin to read the material through any type of reading (associate, shared, directed, etc.). Response is the stage where students respond to what they read through reading logs, journals, or grand conversations. The exploration phase is when students go back and reread some things in the text, learn more vocabulary, participate in mini-lessons, students also observe the author's craft such as genre, text structure, and literacy devices used by the author.
At this stage, students create projects, read similar or related material, evaluate their reading experiences, or use information learned in math units. Here, students participate in post-reading activities that demonstrate comprehension of the text, reflections on their understanding, and value gained from reading the text. From the above statement, it can be concluded that predicting through the picture can help students build their knowledge and they can be able to think about how the information fits with their previous knowledge.
Reading is supposed to be the most important skill, it is still difficult for middle school students to master.
Research Variable and Indicator
Descriptive quantitative research is a type of research that collects the information about the status of phenomenon at the time of conducting research and the collection of data is shown by numbers to obtain the percentage. Moreover, this research is considered quantitative because the result was described in frequencies, percentage and means.
Research Subject
The researcher used pictures with a text to measure students' ability to predict information through picture, in which the teacher asked students to predict the picture before reading the text and answer the questions to measure their reading comprehension .
Procedure of Collecting Data
Data Analysis
A prediction is acceptable and based on details from the passage or can predict 5 or more than 5 details. 100 = Predict 10 or more details of information 95 = Predict 9 details of information 90 = Predict 8 details of information 85 = Predict 7 details of information 80 = Predict 6 details of information. 50 = Predicting 2 details of the information, the information is acceptable 40 = Predicting the information and it is acceptable.
Very low (0) : Makes no prediction and is not based on details from the passage.
Technique of Analyzing Data
Regarding the definition of the problems, in this chapter the researcher aims to describe and analyze the findings during the research process carried out at SMP Negeri 1 Sanrobone. Upon finding, the researcher described the process of calculating and presenting the results of the data.
Findings
The table shows that out of 28 samples, 10 students (35.71%) received a very good classification or could predict more than 5 details of information from the text, 15 students (53.57%) received a good classification or 5 or less than 5 details of information from the text, and only 3 students (10.71%) received a low rating or can predict 2 or less than 2 details of information from the text. From the above explanation, it can be seen that the students' competence in predicting information through images are good classifications because more than 50% of the students obtained a good score, the higher score is 95 and the lower score is 50. After the Students predict information through images. The researcher gave the essay test to know whether the students understand the text.
Based on the above scores and frequencies, essay scores show that students' understanding of reading descriptive text is also good. There are 8 students who scored 90, there are 9 students who scored 80, there are 7 students who scored 70, there are 2 students who scored 60, and there are also 2 students who scored 50. Based on table 4.1 and 4.2 above, researcher presents students' mastery in predicting information and students' comprehension of reading text in a diagram as below:.
Result of Predicting Test and Essay Test
Discussion
Based on the score test in predicting information through the picture, there are three classifications of the competence of the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Sanrobone, from very good level to low level. Based on the explanation above, the level of students' competence in predicting information through the picture is a good level because more than 50%. The essay test also shows that students' comprehension in reading descriptive text is good, the total score was 2150 and the average score was 76.78 which is higher than the minimum reading comprehension criterion (MCC) applied by SMP Negeri 1 Sanrobone.
So the researcher stated that students' competence in predicting information through image in reading text from eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Sanrobone was good classification. Based on the students' result, the researcher found that the students in SMP Negeri 1 Sanrobone were easy to answer the essay test because they knew what is coming in the lesson, they can describe the content of the text after they make prediction from the picture. The problem of the students in reading is that they still lack vocabulary, so the students always ask the researcher about the English word that they do not know, that is the reason why the students still got a good level.
In order to increase the students' level of proficiency in predicting information from a picture while reading a text, there are some things that their English teacher should do. This means that the teacher should practice more English about predicting information through a picture when reading descriptive text so that students can better understand this material, and the teacher should motivate students to learn English, especially about predicting information through a picture when reading a text. The result of this research showed that the use of pictures when reading a text can help students to know what is coming next in the lesson and make it easier to understand the text and improve their background knowledge.
The students also have more fun learning English because the pictures provided by the researcher are familiar. The result of this study is appropriate to the theory which claims that pictures are useful in making students predict what will come next in a lesson (worse it also helps students understand the text easily.
Conclusions
Since the result of students' ability to predict information with picture on text reading at SMP Negeri 1. Sanrobone is good and so is their reading comprehension of the text, it is suggested that:. English teachers should use picture as their medium in teaching reading to help students develop their knowledge about the topic of the text.
