Judul Skripsi: Using SPOTIFY Application to Improve Students' Ability in Listening to English Songs (A Pre-Experimental Study in the Department of First Semester English Students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar)'. Ability to Listen through English Songs (A Pre-Experimental Study on the Students of the First Semester of the English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar). The researcher applied a pre-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design in one group, and collected the data based on the test.
The research findings showed that the first semester students of the English Department of the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar achieved reasonable marks in the pre-test. The result of the research was that the average score that the students obtained by means of pre-test was 57.2 and post-test 74.4 with the t-test value orientation greater than t-table (10.8>2.06) . The result of calculating t-test of the indicators in the students' t-test listening ability to listen through English Song was greater than t-table 25.1>2.06.
Over time, based on the findings and the above discussion, the researcher concluded that the improvement of students' listening ability through English song using SPOTIFY application has improved significantly. The biggest thanks goes to her family, who always stood by her side, motivated and helped her while preparing her thesis.

In this sequence, the teacher must provide students with guidance on how to listen correctly because the teacher can gauge the students' understanding of what they are listening from the audio the teacher plays. Because of those characteristics, the researcher decided to choose the SPOTIFY application as the way to improve students' listening ability. In that case, the researcher decides to choose the SPOTIFY application to increase students' awareness of learning English.
This research will be conducted in third semester students of English department of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in listening comprehension class. The reasons are that the researcher feels that this research should be done to collect information and search for the effect of media in the listening development by using SPOTIFY Application, and the place is also the researcher's university and also the place where the research study. This is the reason why the researcher chose The Use of SPOTIFY Application to Improve Students Ability in Listening.
The benefits for students is to improve students' ability to listen because this research can find out how far the students. The benefit for researcher is that the researcher gets information related to students' improvement in Listening by using SPOTIFY application and also adds the researcher about Listening by using SPOTIFY application.

Therefore, it is desirable that more English teachers should try to use more English pop song material to improve students' listening skills with interest and motivation. Students like to use song to improve their interest in listening because it indirectly trains a skill that students can enjoy. The use of songs should also be chosen to improve students' abilities compared to other methods, as they will acquire a lot of new vocabulary through learning activities in a fun way.
Caicedo and Lojano (2013) in Yusuf Yulianyanto (2017) conclude that the use of songs stimulates students' interest in learning and encourages them to engage more during the learning process because these motivational activities increase confidence, skills and abilities of student learning. Tri Listiyaningsih (2017) said that Listening to English song can improve listening skill because song can be the media to improve listening skill. Regarding these problems, it can be concluded that students' interest is really important because it will affect the learning process and result.
Since this is a problem, this study aims to describe students' interest in using songs in listening lessons. The content of the songs can become one of the influential factors that can determine the improvement of students' listening ability. Children's songs should also take into account the needs of students so that those songs can help them learn and achieve the learning goal.
From the above elements, the researcher selects a third point to measure the student's listening ability. For example, a teacher can use a medium that is close to the student's life, such as the SPOTIFY app, to listen to a song. In this study, listening skill refers to the independent variable - the SPOTIFY app, specifically listening to songs using this app.
Based on the exposure of types in listening skills and the result of some researchers, there is a certain relationship between listening skills and listening to the music or song. So the researcher chose SPOTIFY Application as a new media to improve students' listening ability, besides SPOTIFY Application has some content that is interesting to use in English teaching, most students also have their own smartphone. The researcher finds that students face many problems in learning English, especially in listening.

In this study, the author would find the improvement of students' listening ability by SPOTIFY Application especially in Listening English Song. These tests are used to measure the students' progress in Listening Skills using SPOTIFY Application. Test was done to know students' performance so that the researcher knows the students' improvement.
The pre-test was used to know the students' prior knowledge in listening to English songs. Students' listening ability in identifying phoneme words using the SPOTIFY application was different at pre-test and post-test. The result of the data analysis t-test of the students' listening test using the SPOTIFY application in table 4.4.
The research results indicated that the students' listening ability through English songs using SPOTIFY application showed the improvement of students' listening ability in terms of phoneme words. The description of the data collection through a listening test, as explained in the previous findings section, which showed that the students' performance after using the SPOTIFY application was significant. It meant that using the SPOTIFY application in learning to listen through English songs could improve students' ability to listen terminally and identify phoneme words.
Seeing the improvement of students' listening ability in terms of identifying phoneme words using the SPOTIFY application. It was concluded that the use of SPOTIFY application improves the ability of listening students in term to identify phoneme words. It can be indicated by the students' listening test in the pre-test and post-test.
But the students understood the content of the English song they listened to in the post-test. Improving students' listening ability through English song using SPOTIFY application has been significantly improved. Students' pre-test (X1) and post-test (X2) score, gain/difference between method pairs (D) and squared gain (D2).
FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS
Findings
The findings of the study that listening through English songs using SPOTIFY application could improve students' listening skills in terms of identifying phoneme words of English songs. In the pre-test, the students' ability to listen was less understandable about what the singer said in the song they heard, but after applying the use of the SPOTIFY application, the students were more understandable about identifying of phoneme words of the song, this can clearly be seen in table 4.1. It was said that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted.
On the contrary, if the value was lower than the T-Mize at the level of importance 0.05 and the freedom rate 25, the alternative hypothesis was rejected and the zero hypothesis was adopted.
Discussions
In using the Spotifying application in hearing activity, the researcher found that the average student achievement score after the test is greater than the pre-test. Table 4.1 showed the detection result which the average pre-test score was 57.2 and after using the Spotify application, the average post-test score was 74.4. Therefore, the researcher showed that there was a significant improvement after treatment using the Spotify app.
Yusuf Yuliyanto (2017) said about his research that the use of songs in the listening class could be used to increase students' interest during the learning process. Students like to use the song to improve their interest in listening because it indirectly trains the students' skill, they can enjoy the activities and make them not bored, also they can understand the material more easily. So, based on the above statement, the researcher believed that using the SPOTIFY app while listening to the English song can help the students to be interested in the listening activity, and the students could discover the world that has a similar song to this song. to listen.
When a person learns the English language, he must understand it through listening skills because listening is a skill that he must understand while learning the English language. Listening to English songs can add vocabulary, improve pronunciation and increase listening skills, and there is a way to improve listening skills. By the result of the pre-test and the post-test, the result of the t-test value of the level of the significant = 0.05, the degree of freedom (df) = 24 indicated that the t-table value was 2.06 and the t-test value was 10.8.
And then the students could easily answer the questions and find out which answer was the correct answer. It is suggested to the teacher, especially to the students of the first semester of the English Department, to use a SPOTIFY application as an alternative to other teaching that can be used in teaching listening. It is suggested to the teacher to use the SPOTIFY application through English as a material as it is effective in increasing the listening ability of the students.
