Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan ABC News dalam Meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa dengan berfokus pada kosakata (kata benda dan kata kerja), akurasi (tata bahasa) dan mengidentifikasi topik tentang ABC News di Kelas XI SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar. Pemilihan penggunaan ABC News dalam meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa didasarkan pada observasi pada siswa kelas sebelas SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar dan wawancara dengan guru tentang keterampilan siswa di kelas sebelas.

Based on the above basis, the researcher formulated the research question: “How is the use of ABC News in improving the listening skills of students in the eleventh grade of SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar. Based on the research question, the objective of this research is to find out the use of ABC News in improving listening skills of students in SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar.
The researcher conducted the study on the use of ABC News to improve listening skills in SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar's eleventh grade. The researcher will use ABC News in monologue to improve the students' listening, especially in terms of vocabulary (noun and verb), accuracy (grammar) and identification about the news topic of the news.

The Concept of Listening
In this phase, the researcher examines some elements of listening: the definition of listening and the process of listening learning. Listening is one of the subjects studied in the field of language study and in the discipline of conversation analysis. As for that quote, while listening is receptive, it is very active because listeners can think and understand things at a higher level than what they have heard.
This view of listening is based on the assumption that the basic function of listening in second language learning is to facilitate understanding of spoken discourse. It is important for language learners to choose the right words in certain situations to make their listening meaningful. Grammar is very important for people learning English as it is one of the important aspects to master communication skills.
Monologue or short conversation is one of the other pieces that is tested in the listening section. This part of the listening test is a bit difficult as it makes us listen and understand the whole idea to be able to choose the right answer. This type has theatrical qualities, which is why it is known as dramatic monologue and is often used in poetry.
Kline (in Anugrah 2019:24) divides three types of listening because different situations require different types of listening. Discriminatory listening may be the most important form, as it is fundamental to the others. It is very important because people who cannot hear well will have more difficulty distinguishing sound.
The speaker's manner of speaking can be the key to understanding the true or intended meaning.
The Concept of Using News in Listening
Attention to the sound structure of the language will lead to more skilled distributive listening. ABC News is a public news service in Australia produced by the News and Current Affairs division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The department is responsible for all news gathering and production of news output for ABC television, radio and online services.
There are many benefits to using news in teaching listening and watching news. It can also help students improve their listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and memory. According to Hutchison in Liza (2013:21), the newsreader delivers 25 words per minute with a wide range of vocabularies. By using news, the teacher can bring the voices of other English speakers into the classroom.
The students are introduced to different types of speech and language – such as the deliberate speech of a fixed script or the spontaneous speech of live interviews. The news stories can be used to generate ideas or topics to discuss in class. The objectives of audio-language method (ALM) as a method in teaching listening using ABC news as a media.
It is a combination of structural linguistics theory, contrastive analysis, auditory-oral procedures and behaviourist psychology. According to Berk (2009), there are at least 20 potential benefits of using news to teach listening, which are: Capture students' attention, focus students' concentration, generate interest in class, create a sense of anticipation, energize or relax students for learning exercises , draw on students' imaginations, improve attitudes toward content and learning, build a connection with other students and the instructor, increase memory of content, increase understanding, promote creativity stimulate the flow of ideas, promote deeper learning, make learning fun, provide an opportunity for freedom of expression, act as a tool for collaboration, inspire and. Based on the above explanation, the purpose of using news in listening is to be active in learning, increase students' knowledge through ABC News using ALM as a method.
And the news can provide benefits to teach students' listening skills because which student's warmth will increase their vocabulary.
Conceptual Framework
Where the teacher can prepare teaching in the form of listening skills by using ABC News as a media in the classroom and using ABC News as a media in teaching can improve students' listening skills.
Research Design
The first meeting: The researcher gives the students a taste of how government funding has left public schools behind. The second meeting: The researcher introduced and explained about the definition of listening comprehension, ABC News. The third meeting: The researcher introduced ABC news to students as a medium used to teach the materials.
Meeting four: the researcher gave a student the material about news intern and education news. Fifth meeting: the researcher reviewed the material and gave the students more explanations about listening. Session six: the researcher gave a post-test about how public funding left public schools behind.
The researcher conducted the test to determine the improvement in students' listening skills, especially ABC news, after treatment.
Population and Sample
The population of this study consisted of the eleven students of SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar in academic year 2019/2020. The sampling technique of this study was a purposive sampling technique, because the sample was selected based on the observation of the researcher who is the best part of the sample of this study. This technique determines the sample based on the consideration that students need treatment to improve their listening skills.
Variables and Indicators
The population of this research was the eleven degree students of SMA Harapan Bhakti Makassar in the academic year.
Research Instrument
The findings of the research present the result improvement of the students' listening ability by ABC News. The researcher used ABC News to improve students' listening skills, especially vocabulary (noun and verb), accuracy (grammar) and topic identification. The Students Listening Comprehension using ABC News The researcher gave a pre-test of ABC News to a XI C class students and the news was "How Public Funding has left the Public School behind" and the result was very low and then the researcher gave a post test with the same news and the result was.
The results of the students' pre- and post-tests can be seen in the table below. It was supported by the average score and percentage of students' pre- and post-test score. The researcher gave a pre-test to students based on ABC News and the news they listen to was "How Public Funding Left Public School Behind" and the result was very low.
Student response during the pretest was curious what ABC News. The score from the post-test was high, meaning that ABC News improves students' listening ability. The researcher gave a test to the students based on ABC News and the news they are listening was "How public funding left the public school behind" and the researcher told the students to find the vocabulary, accuracy and identify the topic and the result was very. low.
The post-test result was high. This means that ABC News improves listening skills in terms of vocabulary (noun and verb), accuracy (grammar) and topic identification. The research results indicated that by using ABC News as a media, the listening ability of the students shows the improvement of the listening skills of the students. The improvement showed that the pre- and post-test increased and the result of the students' listening in the t-test.
Based on the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that ABC News is effective to improve students' ability in special listening vocabulary (noun and verb), grammar (accuracy) and topic identification.
