Furthermore, the primary objective of this research was to investigate the influence of the use of television news media on students' listening comprehension in the fourth semester of English study program in the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro. This means that the television news medium affects the students' listening comprehension in the fourth semester of the English course at the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro positively and significantly. In order to improve the students' listening comprehension, a medium is also needed to provide some help to the teachers in teaching and learning processes.

Student Listening Score in the First Semester of the English Education Study Program at the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro. In view of the above problems, the researcher will examine the effect of using TV news on the listening comprehension of students in the fourth semester of the English Education degree program at Jurai Siwo Metro State Islamic College. The researcher hypothesizes that TV news as a medium can influence the increase of students' listening comprehension.

Based on the problem identifications above, this is said by most of the students who have no interest in listening. In this case, the researcher will limit on the influence of the use of TV news medium on students' listening comprehension at the fourth semester of English Education Study Program in the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro. The problem formulation of this research is: "Is there any positive and significant influence of the use of TV news towards students' listening comprehension at the fourth semester of the English Education Study Program in the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro?".

To know a positive and significant influence of the use of TV news medium for the students' listening comprehension at the fourth semester of the English Study Program in the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro.

Listening Comprehension

It is a medium through which children, youth and adults receive a large part of their education - their information, their understanding of the world and human relationships, their ideals, sense of values ​​and their appreciation. It can be explained that listening skills are one of the important and basic skills. This implies that the students in listening lessons must be involved in the listening activities that require their undivided attention.

While understanding has the following meaning: in general usage and more specifically in reference to education and psychology, it has more or less the same meaning as understanding.6 Understanding is the ability to understand.7 From these explanations we know that both understanding and comprehension were somewhat similar, but the students need more understanding to understand what they listen to in English. In listening comprehension, the students must be helped by the teacher to select a manageable group of words. The students are initially confused by this, but with some training they can learn to utilize it as well as other makes that provide more processing.

Students must train themselves to listen for meaning in the midst of a distracting performance variable. Students must ultimately be able to understand language delivered at varying speeds and at times delivered with few pauses. So these aspects must be well known by the students if they want to understand what they are listening clearly.

Using a combination of top-down and bottom-up data processing is called interactive processing. The most common type of listening exercise in many textbooks is listening for specific information. In the classroom this often includes tasks such as identifying main ideas, noting a sequence of events and so on.

Inference is another critical form of listening: listening between the lines, that is, listening for meaning that is implicit and not directly stated. Because students perform the task while listening, it is important that the task itself does not require too much production from the student. Any discussion of listening texts should probably be about the issue of authentic texts.

The students should be able to identify whether what they are listening to is general or core listening. Being a listener is difficult because in the listening process there are so many obstacles that the students face.

Types of Listening Activities

There are seven strategies to facilitate listening comprehension, such as: pre-listening strategy, identifying main ideas, note-taking, processing details, determining relationships between ideas, guessing vocabulary of content, and identifying pronoun-referents.

Media for Listening

Audio media is related to the sense of hearing, which is a message that is sent through auditory, verbal or non-verbal cues. Usman assumed that there are several types of media that can be classified into audio media are;. In line with the above statement, we know that the audio medium can simply be responded to by the ear as sound.

And this type of media was usually used by the teachers in the listening process, in addition, they do not use different media to show or give to their students. Oemar Hamalik said that the educational medium seems to make sense with teaching materials, teaching materials or audiovisual aids. An audiovisual aid is a material, method and technique used for more effective communication and interaction between the teacher and students in the learning process.

Even this kind of media can be used in English teaching, but it is an inappropriate media which will be used to measure the students'. Basyiruddin Usman said that "the audio-visual medium can be films or moving images and television".14 It knew that films, television and moving images were included in audiovisual media. This media is different among audio and visual media because it is multimedia combined from these media.

The audiovisual medium was a medium used in the learning process, only involves the sense of listening and sight of students in one process or one activity. This medium can be divided into verbal message and non-verbal message that rely on sight and sense of listening.15 In this research the researcher will use audiovisual medium in the form of TV News.

The Benefits of Using TV News

There are some benefits we will gain from using it as our medium in teaching listening. Society is invited to increase their attention to education. Most of the students are interested in watching television than studying in their daily life, so using TV news as a medium to study will give them some information according to their need. Choose stories appropriate to the skill level; political and science related stories are often too difficult for many students to understand.

Use stories that are appropriate for many learning activities and integration of the four skills.
