Alfred University launches weekly Artists' Speaker Series

Alfred University has introduced a new speaker series in which faculty and staff in the School of Art and Design, as well as guest artists, will present short talks on their creative practice outside of the classroom. The Weekly Wednesday Arts Speaker Series aims to engage the Alfred community by creating a unique sharing space focusing on the arts.

Alfred Art Walk Returns

Alfred Art Walk returns on September 16, 5-8pm. In the first month of classes on our campuses, the Alfred art Walk is pleased to help welcome the public back into Alfred's arts spaces. A number of venues, including a few new spaces, will open their doors to the public, marking the first art walk in many months. A number of virtual events are also planned for the evening.

Robert C. Turner Gallery: Student Run - Student Envisioned

The Robert C. Turner Gallery is a professional gallery space at Alfred

University which is student-organized. The gallery is “student run, student envisioned”

and is open during the Fall and Spring semesters.

8th East Meets West Virtual Concert &

Forum: Music dialogue between Yazhi Guo and David Fiuczynski

On Thursday, September 16, at 8pm the Confucius Institute at Alfred University presents a virtual concert and forum: Music dialogue between Yazhi Guo and David Fiuczynski.

Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration The Confucius Institute at Alfred University will host the Mid-Autumn Festival

Celebration on Monday, September 20th 6- 8 pm in the front of the Confucius House (10 Park St. Alfred).

Film Screening: Days (Tsai Ming-liang, 2020)

On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24 and 25, at 7 p.m., the film Days (Tsai Ming-liang, 2020) will be screened in Holmes

Auditorium, Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Tokimeki Blue residency with Cameron McKinney and Cayla Mae Simpson TOKIMEKI BLUE, a multimedia dance installation created by Cameron McKinney and Cayla Mae Simpson and curated by D. Chase Angier, professor of dance, is on view in the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery at Alfred University Sept. 10-Oct.

Exhibition at Cohen Gallery: "Change of Address: New SOAD Faculty"

Alfred University’s School of Art and Design on Friday, Sept. 3, will host a reception at the Cohen Gallery, on Main Street, to welcome new SOAD faculty. The reception will run from 6 to 8pm and will celebrate the exhibition of work by new faculty members.

School of Art and Design offers free weekly drawing sessions

On Friday evenings throughout the fall semester 2021, the public is invited to attend open figure drawing sessions on the bottom floor of the Brick residence hall on the Alfred University campus.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards appoints Alfred University as Western New York Art Adjudication partner Alfred University’s School of Art and Design has been granted the exclusive contract to be the Western New York art jury site for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Alfred Arts "On the Road: Looking for Alfred's Next Great Artists."

In association with National Portfolio Day Association, Arts at Alfred embarks on a cross-country nine-city tour with a return to in-person portfolio reviews in addition to virtual portfolio days.

Professor Andrew Deutsch in 'Don't Blame it on Zen,' Exhibition at Black Mountain College Museum

Andrew Deutsch, Professor of Sonic &

Video Art in the School of Art & Design is featured in the exhibition "Don’t Blame it on ZEN: The Way of John Cage & Friends"

at the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, curated by Jade Dellinger, Director of the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at FSW. The exhibition is on view through January 8, 2022 at 120 College Street in Asheville, NC 28801

Professor Judy Livingston Bus-Sized Nonviolence Campaign

On August 26, 2021, Judy Livingston, associate professor of

design, participated in a webinar with Gwen Olton, Interim Executive Director of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence and Rivera Sun, Pace e Bene Advancing Nonviolence Coordinator.

Sharon McConnell Art in Craft Media 2021

The artwork of Sharon McConnell, Director of Galleries in the School of Art and Design is included in the Art in Craft Media 2021 exhibition at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY.

Joseph Scheer and Nancy Blum at Reynolds Gallery

Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, VA, presents a two-person exhibition entitled "Sustaining Encounters," which opens Friday, Sept. 10, and features the work of Nancy Blum and Alfred University alumnus Joseph Scheer '84, Distinguished Professor of Print Media and Director of the Institute for Electronic Arts, School of Art and Design, Alfred University.

Professor Maureen Weiss curates interactive performance piece,

"Rooms: Tiny Openings"

Maureen Weiss, Associate Professor of Performance Design and Technology in the Performing Arts Division of Alfred

University’s School of Art and Design, curated and designed an interactive performance piece this summer, based on interviews done during the Covid-19 pandemic.
