Welcome to the monthly arts newsletter from the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division at Alfred university. This newsletter highlights stories and news from faculty, staff, students and alumnx in addition to recent and upcoming on campus arts events and programs.

On View Arts at Alfred

World class exhibitions continue throughout the fall semester in the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, Cohen Gallery, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery and Robert C. Turner Gallery on the Alfred University campus.

IDEA Lab Workshop

The 4th IDEA Lab workshop will be held on November 17 at 2 p.m. in Holmes

Auditorium in Harder Hall. Topic Leaders Andy Cornielle and Hiram Cray will lead the discussion.

The Jazz Cafe Performed by Alfred University Jazz Ensemble

The Alfred University Jazz Band will present its Fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Nov.

18, 2021, in the Knight Club, Powell Campus Center.

Disclosure Documentary Screening The documentary Disclosure will be screened on Friday, November 19 at 6pm in Holmes Auditorium in Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus.

Music From Hollywood to Broadway Alfred University Concert Band and Alfred University Orchestra

Alfred University’s Division of Performing Arts will present a concert, Music from Hollywood to Broadway on Friday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Miller Theater. The concert is open to the public at no charge.

Solo exhibition by Paul Catanese in the TSI Harland Snodgrass Gallery

Artist Paul Catanese will have a solo exhibition in the TSI Harland Snodgrass Gallery in Harder Hall, School of Art &

Design at Alfred University. The exhibition will be on view January 17 - 30 , 2022.

Alfred University dance program announces end of semester showing

The Alfred University dance program will stage an end of semester showing on December 2 and 3, at 6 p.m. in the C.D.

Smith Theater, Miller Performing Arts Center.

Fall 2021 Senior Shows

Alfred University’s School of Art and Design is hosting its annual Fall exhibition of work by students receiving their BFAs at the conclusion of the fall 2021 semester.

Discussion on the Japanese tea ceremony, hosted by Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, held Nov. 11

A demonstration and discussion of the Japanese tea ceremony, sponsored by the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, was presented on Zoom Nov. 11 in concert with the exhibition Path of the Teabowl.

Light Matter Film Festival

Light Matter Film Festival is a new moving image arts festival dedicated to

experimental film and media arts which took place in Alfred University's Holmes Auditorium and TSI / Harland Snodgrass Gallery from November 12 - 14, 2021.

Gao Xingjian's 'The Other Shore' performed three nights in Miller Theater

Alfred University’s Performing Arts Division presented a production of Nobel laureate Gao Xingjian's The Other Shore on Nov. 11, 12 and 13 in the Miller Theater.

Group from Alfred University explores Adirondacks as part of research field trip

A group of six Alfred University students and two faculty members hiked in the Adirondack State Park earlier this month as part of an interdisciplinary research field trip hosted by SUNY College of

Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).

Rey Jeong, Professor of Practice and IDEA Generator (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) in the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division exhibited recently at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit.

Alfred University’s Art Force 5 to build and install ceramic McCall portrait in SUNY Albany headquarters

Alfred University's Art Force 5 will lead the construction and installation of a mosaic portrait of former SUNY Chairman H. Carl McCall. The piece will be installed in the entry corridor of the SUNY Systems headquarters in Albany.

Jones to give online lecture at Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Meghen Jones, PhD, Associate Professor of Art History in the School of Art &

Design will present the 34th Annual Michele and Peter Berton Memorial Lecture

entitled Rebellion and Reverberation in Japanese Ceramic Art Since the 1960s at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art at 3:30pm PT on Dec. 5, 2021.
