Susquehanna String Band returns to Alfred University 10/11/04
The Susquehanna String Band, a perennial favorite with Alfred University audiences, returns this week for two classes and a Friday evening performance with the Alfred University Chamber Singers.The three-man band, which includes Rick Bunting, John Kirk and Dan Duggan, will teach two classes that are open to the public. The first is a dance class on clogging, to be held from 11:20 am to 12:35 pm Thursday, Oct. 14, in Miller Performing Arts Center. The second is an American Music class, to be held at 11:20 am Friday, also in Miller Performing Arts Center. Friday's performance is scheduled for 8 pm in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall. The Susquehanna String Band joins the AU Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Luanne Crosby, associate professor of voice and chorus. The Chamber Singers will perform selections from their two-week tour of Peru in May.Bunting, who recently retired as chairman of music education at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, performs on banjo, concertina and vocals. Kirk, who studied music at SUNY Fredonia, is recognized as a versatile and talented performer of traditional music, playing fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin and vocals. Duggan is an award-winning hammered dulcimer player.Friday's concert is also open to the public.
