Government through the Financial Services Authority regulate the establishment of premium rates and the terms of acquisition costs on insurance business line of motor vehicles and property and the type of special risks including floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis which became effective date of 01 March 2014. The consequences of this regulation is an increase in competition in the service of the claim as added value. Increased demands of the role and workload can lead to job stress on employees.
This study aims to analyze the conditions of work stress , analyzing the effect of work stress on employee performance and formulate strategies for managing workplace stress and improve employee performance in Sub-Division of Insurance Claims Assessment Center Motor Vehicle PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Persero). This study uses census by respondents as many as 31 people.
Work stress measurements performed using a survey instrument measuring the diagnosis of stress (SDS). Assessment of the effect of work stress on employee performance using partial least squares (PLS). This tool is also used to measure the effect of each of the indicators of job stress on employee performance .
The result show that most of the employees experience job stress in the medium category. Stressors in this category is dominated by role ambiguity and qualitative excessive workload. High stressors categories have been found in role conflict and quantitative excessive workload. The results of testing the relationship between latent variable by using a scatter plot diagram shows that there is no relationship between work stress with employee performance . The test results of partial least squares (PLS) with reference to the value of the t – statistic, conclude that there is no effect of work stress on employee performance. This study found the original sample value of 0.045734. This value describe that the increase in job stress boost employee performance by 0.045734. The original value of this sample is relatively small. It was explained that there were no sufficient information to support the work stress affects employee performance.
This condition is also confirmed by the results of testing the effect of each stressors which indicates that there is no influence between the each indicators of job stress on employee performance. Employees understand the employment contract with the company. These regulations encourage employees to be able to manage the perceived work stress and continue to work optimally. Stress management strategies by the company can be focused on the dominant stressor that is employees stressor role ambiguity and qualitative excessive workload.
Companies have to keep and maintain employment contract (which is contain reward and punishment) between employees and companies to encourage the achievement of performance standards of employees .
The study recommends workplace stress management with the organization's approach and individualized approach. Organizational approaches can be done with the evaluation of staffing models and existing jobs in the claims to fit the role and authority of the staff who are placed and a review of the
standard service level agreement on closing settlement of claims particularly retail corporations (leasing). Individual stress management can be done informally by the company. The study also recommended the company to maintain the employment contract between the employee with the company. R-Square value of the research model by 0.2 %, which means that work stress can explain the variable performance of 0.20 % and the rest is influenced by other variables. In further research, it is advisable to involve other variables besides work stress itself to be analyzed its influence on employee performance .
