Social media is a term widely used to describe any number of technological systems related to collaboration and community.20Selwyn defines the term social media as an application that allows users to talk and communicate with each other ; to generate, edit and share new forms of textual, visual and audio content; and to categorize, mark, and suggest existing forms of content.21 Therefore, social media refers to the wide range of Internet-based and mobile services that connect people to communicate, engage, collaborate, discuss, and share ideas and information about an online community. Additionally, according to Kaplan and Haenlein, social media are Internet-based applications that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content.22 The Oxford dictionary also defined social media as websites and applications used for social networking. The challenges and opportunities of social media. popular, extremely fast and wide, has proven to be highly effective, as well as trusted by billions of people, to share and discover content related to individuals, brands, information, entertainment and know-how.23 From all the definitions above, it can be concluded, that social media is a tool used to communicate both individually and in groups without limitations and time.

In the late 1990s, social media began with the first known social media network called "SixDegrees" in 1997, and this technology allowed people to upload profiles and make friends.24 Many community resources that were launched from 1997 to 2001; Asian Avenue, blackplanet and MiGente started supporting various profile combinations and openly expressed friends. 25. There are many forms of social media, presented in the table below, that allow users to interact with other media users of their choice. Forms of social media adapted from Grahl as cited in Alwagait27; a) Social networking sites (SNS).

Students today use social media anywhere and anytime an Internet connection is available to meet their educational needs.28 Students use social media to communicate with their teachers as a group outside of class and to plan school events and whatnot is, it gave students the opportunity to get help with schoolwork from teachers in the evenings, weekends and holidays, so they never fell behind. The conclusion is that students use social media as a platform for discussions for their assignments and other course work, they get feeds on class schedules. 5 Has complete fluency such that his speech is fully accepted by educated native speakers.

First, a study titled The Relation Between Social Media and Students’ Academic Performance in Jordan: A YouTube Perspective. The findings of the study showed that social bookmarking, YouTube feature, perceived usefulness, social media usage are significant factors for student prediction.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

According to Ary, there are two types of variables; independent and dependent variable.45 Arikunto states that a variable is anything that is the subject of research and indicates that it is observed to represent variation, whether in quantitative or qualitative research.46 An independent variable is a variable that can influence, briefly called causal variable or free variable.

Setting of the Research 1. The place of the research

  • The time of the research

Population and Sample 1. Population

  • Sample
  • Sampling

Researchers therefore used one form of probability sampling, which is Simple Random Sampling, as a sampling technique. Simple Random Sampling, according to Sugiyono, is taken from the population of representatives of the study, and is carried out randomly without paying attention to the current strata of the population.51. By drawing lots, selecting numbers from a list of random numbers, and so on, a simple random sample can be performed.

Research Instrument a) Questionnaire

In this scale it is usually expressed in five options and initially the researcher determines the score of each statement in the questionnaire to determine the scores of the students. Because the statements and questions in the questionnaires are mainly divided into two statements; positive and negative, the researcher uses the following criteria when scoring the answers. The questionnaire consists of 17 items and each item consists of five options: always, often, sometimes, rarely, never.

This questionnaire determines the truth regarding this investigation to clarify whether the use of instructional YouTube videos will have a beneficial impact on the development of speaking skills for students, and not. In addition, O'Malley and Pierce stated that students are able to respond orally to questions on a variety of topics that may involve their past experience, interests, and desires.53. The many types of many tests of oral production it is neither desirable nor desirable to separate the speaking skills from the listening skills.

This test involves the teacher and students in asking and answering questions using the target language. The researcher gives tests namely Q&A or Questions and Answers to see if the sample being tested could meet the hypothesis standard.

Try Out the Instrument a. Validity

The items of the test are considered valid if the correlation coefficients are at least the same as the table at 𝛼 = 0.05. The item of the test is considered not valid if the correlation coefficient is lower than the table. Based on the result of the validity test, out of 20 questionnaires on the frequency of students' use of YouTube content, 17 items are valid and 3 items are invalid because the correlation coefficient is lower than the table.

According to Masson and Bramble, reliability means that the test result is consistent, reliable, or stable. Inter-rater reliability results in further results producing conflicting results of the same test, likely due to non-adherence to scoring parameters, inexperience, inattention, or even preconceived biases by Brown. According to Suharsimi Arikunto, Alpha Cronbach Formula analyzed the questionnaire to get the result, as follows: 55.

A CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN THE HABIT OF USING ENGLISH IN DAILY LIFE AND SPEAKING SKILLS OF FIRST CLASS STUDENTS MAPK MAN 1 SURAKARTA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR Doctoral Dissertation, IAIN Surakarta).

Research Procedure

The researcher also gave the respondent a YouTube video link that they had to watch as material to answer the questions in the test. After the participants complete the entire question, the participants will be asked to send it back the recording file made to the researcher and the results will be analyzed by the researcher.

Data Collection

Data Analysis 1. Normality test

  • Linearity testing
  • Hypothesis test

Description of the data

  • The data of the frequency of using YouTube content
  • The data of speaking skill

Histogram of students' frequency of use of YouTube content The histogram above shows that the students' frequency of use of YouTube content is normally distributed. In this research, the researcher created a frequency distribution to summarize the data of students' frequency of using YouTube content (Questionnaire). The frequency distribution is a list containing grouped data arranged according to some interval class.

The data analysis

  • Normality testing
  • Hypothesis testing

Moreover, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between students' frequency of using YouTube content and speaking skill for the dots in scattered. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a positive significant correlation between students' frequency of using YouTube content (X) and speaking skill (Y). It says that there is no positive significant correlation between students' frequency of using YouTube content (X) and speaking skill (Y).

There is no significant correlation between the frequency of using YouTube content and students' speaking skills.”. From the results above, it can be concluded that there is a positive correlation of 0.852 between the students' frequency of using YouTube content and speaking skills. So the conclusion is that there is a positive relationship and the correlation coefficient value between the students' frequency of using YouTube content and speaking skills is 0.852.

This means that there is a positive relationship and the correlation coefficient between the frequency of using YouTube content and students' speaking skills is 0.852. Based on the simple interpretation above, the researcher observed that the correlation between the frequency of use of YouTube content by students and speaking ability is strong. This means that there is a relationship between the frequency of use of YouTube content by students and speaking ability.

The discussion of the research finding

Based on the above data, it can be seen that there is a significant correlation between the frequency of use of YouTube content by students and speaking skills. The average score of the frequency of use of YouTube content by students is 72.66, and the standard deviation is 3.35. It means that the average estimate of the frequency of use of YouTube content by students is high, and the standard deviation is low.

While the result of the normality test the students' frequency of using YouTube content is 0.07 > 0.05, it means that the data is normal. The result of the linearity test shows that the value of Fobtained is 0.345 < Ftable 2.95, so there is a linear relationship between students' frequency of using YouTube and speaking skills. This means that there is a positive relationship and the correlation coefficient between the students' frequency of using YouTube content and.

This means that 72% of the variance of speaking ability is influenced by students' frequency of using YouTube content, while the other 18% is contributed by other factors. Based on that, the researcher noted that the correlation between students' frequency of using YouTube content and speaking skill. This indicates that there is strong correlation coefficient between variable X (students' frequency of using YouTube content) and variable Y (speaking skill).
