MINUTES

GOVERNING COMMITTEE - FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Washington, D.C.

August 10, 1966

The meeting was called to order by H. N. Hunsicker, Chairman, Those .present included John W. Lacey, Wm. Paul Gray (members of the Committee),

E. J. Johnson, and John Foltz. Mr. Gray also served as Secretary.

The first item of business regarded a request by Jack Morgan, President of the Butler Manufacturing Company, Kansas City, Missouri, in which he asked assistance in getting a friend from Great Britain placed on a farm in the United States, for work experience. It was agreed that Mr.

Hunsicker should write Mr. Morgan and indicate our willingness to assist.

Mr. Gray was asked to inquire of State FFA Executive Secretaries in several States, relative to this request.

It was moved by Mr. Lacey, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried, that the expenses of Bob Stewart to Kansas City, to supervise the Central Regional Leadership Conference in place of Mr. Gray, be approved and paid from FFA Special Leadership Travel Funds.

The policy of the Board of Directors to have two staff members authorized to approve FFA expenses was discussed. Mr. Hunsicker emphasized that this practice shall be continued, with Mr. Lacey authorized to act in his absence.

In light of the request of the Board of Trustees that the Governing Committee appoint a special committee to study the administrative plan to operate the FFA F6undation, the following persons were selected:

Representatives of Donors - H. H. Hardy and D. R. Crandall Representatives of Board of Trustees - Paul J. Foster and

Ralph H. Tolbert

Representatives of Office of Education Staff - R. E. Edwards and Wm. Paul Gray

Ex-officio Members - H. N. Hunsicker and one National FFA Officer It was moved by Mr. Lacey, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried, that a meeting be called by Mr. Hunsicker in Washington, D.C. in September, and that Mr. Edwards be designated to serve as chairman.

It was moved by Mr. Lacey, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried, that Mr. Gray work with E. J. Hawkins to employ a person to survey the

grounds at the National FFA Center, and that Mr. Lacey contact officials of Virginia Polytechnic Institute Agricultural Education Department, to assist in arranging for a landscape architect to come to Washington in

the next two weeks to study the proposed FFA Leadership Center, and that this gToup prepare recommendations and plans not later than October 1.

The matter of selecting a special committe~ to study leadership training in the FFA, as proposed by the National Awards COGlmittee and recoaimended by the Board of Directors, was discussed. In view of the pending

S. Office of Education for youth group leaders that would be financed by 4-c funds, it was moved by

Mr. Gray, seconded by Mr. Lacey and carried, that this matter be postponed until definite information on this project is received. In light of the above, Dr. Binkley, of Kentucky, is to be contacted relative to the proposal the University of Kentucky is preparing for a national workshop for FFA Executive Secretaries in 1967, to make certain i t is submitted to the national office for review.

Staff responsibilities were discussed. It was agreed that Wilson Carnes is to be in charge of registration at the national convention, and that he mail out the white registration cards requested by the State super- visors. It was moved by Mr. Gray, seconded by Mr. Lacey and carried,

that Mr. Lacey would serve as a coordinator of all judging contests and that he is to involve Regional Field Representatives in Agricultural Education in assignments at both Waterloo and Kansas City.

The matter of bids for printing was discussed. It was moved by Mr. Lacey, seconded by Mr. Gray and carried, that the following contracts be let:
