PROPOSAL FOR

NATIONAL FFA LEADERSHIP TRAINING CONFERENCE Washington, D. C.

July 18-21, 1967 PURPOSES OF THE CONFERENCE:

Appendix 2

l. Give State FFA officers an opportunity to develop better understanding of the national program of vocational education in agriculture, and the relationship of FFA at the National, State and local levels.

2. Involve State officers in activities designed to develop a better under•

standing of leadership and how they can help develop leadership in more FFA members on the local level.

3. Provide opportunity for citizenship development through visits to historic shrines in the Washington area, as well as planned meetings with leaders of Government.

4. Exchange ideas and information pertaining to successful activities and practices which will assist State associations and result in a stronger program of vocational agriculture and FFA.

5. Promote friendship among officers and develop an understanding of FFA situations in different parts of the United States.

6. Provide State staff leaders an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop a better understanding of how to perform their duties more effectively to strengthen the total vocational agriculture program on the local, State and National levels.

ATTENDANCE:

Current State officers and one adult advisor, preferably the State Executive Secretary. (Do not ask to include past State officers).

PARTICIPATION BY STATES:

This meeting is planned as a work leadership conference and will make use of officers in panels, symposiums, forums, and other types of effective group discussion techniques. 'rime will be devoted to committee work. State officers will be selected in advance for participation, and an effort will be made to involve every boy in attendance in some phase of leadership activity. Much emphasis will be on the "How To Do" their responsibilities for the benefit of

SUGGESTED PROGRAM:

Special assignments to be made to States to prepare members to participate in symposiums to discuss the following suggested areas:

1. The place of the FFA in the vocational agriculture program.

2. How to provide leadership training to greater number of FFA members.

3. What is leadership and citizenship.

4. How to effectively use State Leadership Training Centers (Camps).

5. How to make more effective use of FFA for advancement in vocational agriculture.

6. How to achieve personal goals.

7. Exploring new areas of public relations to benefit FFA and the members.

8. What is involved in becoming an FFA officer.

9. Understanding National-State•Local relationships.

10. Planning and conducting a State convention.

11. Vespers Program at Sylvan Theater.

SUGGESTED TOURS:

1. Meet with leaders of Congress - learn how laws are made.

Meet with President and Vice President of the United States.

Devotional meeting at Arlington Cemetery and placing wreath at Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.

4. Visit at White House.

5. lwo Jima Memorial.

6. Attend Marine Retreat.

7. Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington Memorials.

8. Archives, Mount Vernon and Smithsonian Institute.

9. National FFA Center.

HOUSING;

Delegates and staff will be housed at either the Sheraton-Paik Hotel, Willard Hotel, or 4-H Center. Reasonable rates can be obtained with three boys per room. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to

each (this can be explained if necessary).
