Sitzung am 16. November 1912.

Anwesend waren die Turner F. Vonnegut, Stempfel, Westing, Scherer und Rath. Präsident Vonnegut führte den Vorsitz.

Turner Vonnegut berichtete, mit dem Hauskomite wegen der Reinhaltung des Turnsaales gesprochen zu haben.

Es konnte konstatiert werden, daβ die Heizung jetzt besser ist als früher.

Seminardirektor Rath berichtete, daβ E. H. Niles an Stelle

des verunglückten Chemielehrers A. F. Staller angestellt worden sei.

Ferner berichtete er, daβ der Chicagoer Schwabenverein

dem Seminar abermals $100 00 als Geschenk gesandt hat, und daβ Turner Hugo Münech ein Exemplar der gesam-

melten Schriften seines Vaters Friedrich Münech

und Hannes L. Zink ein Examplar der Turntafeln von

August Lang für die Bibliothek stifteten.

Weiter meldete Turnlehrer Rath, daβ Turner Robert Lieber den Studenten Seminaristen unentgeltlich die

Wandelbilder von den olympischen Spielen in Stockholm vorführen lieβ.

Beschlossen, dem Chicagoer Schwabenverein, Turner Hugo Münech, Hannes L. Zink, und Turner Robert Lieber

den Dank des Verwaltungsrats auszusprechen.

Beschlossen, die Teilnehmer einer Seminarklasse bei einer Unterhaltung des Sozialen Turnvereins

(zur Aufbringung einer Reisekasse für das 31.

Bundesturnfest) zu gestatten.

Die Empfehlung der Administrativbehörde, die Lichter im Hörsall niedriger hängen zu lassen, und $12 50 dafür zu bewilligen, wurde gutgeheiβen.

Direktor Rath legte folgende Liste vor, aus der hervor geht, durch welche Einflüsse die in diesem Jahr ein-

getretenen Studenten zum Besuch des Seminars veranlaβt wurden.

Beschlossen, die Extrasitzung für Samstag, den 30.

November, abends 8 Uhr, einzuberufen, und dieser Versammlung folgende Empfehlungen zu

unterbreiten:

Meeting on November 16, 1912.

Present: Turners F. Vonnegut, Stempfel, Westing, Scherer and Rath.

President Vonnegut chaired the meeting.

Turner Vonnegut reported that he has spoken with the (German) House committee about cleaning the gym. It was stated that its heating situation has improved.

Dean Rath reported that E. H. Niles was hired in place of Chemistry teacher A. F. Staller who died in an accident.

A few additional matters he reported on: the Chicago Schwabenverein (Swabia Union) donated

$100 to the College for the second time; two gifts were made to the library - Turner Hugo Münech donated a copy of his father’s Friedrich Münech collected works and Hannes L. Zink donated a copy of August Lang’s gymnastic plaques;

Turner Robert Lieber organized a free slide show for the students College students showing pictures from the Olympic Games in Stockholm,

It was decided to express the Board of Trustees’ gratitude to the Chicago Schwabenverein, Turner Hugo Münech, Hannes L. Zink, and Turner Robert Lieber.

It was decided to grant permission for one of the college classes to participate in a fun event held by the Sozialer Turnverein (Social Gymnastic Union) to raise travel money for the 31st National Gymnastic Festival.

The motion made by the Administrative Office to have the lights in the auditorium hung lower and allot $12 50 for it was granted.

Dean Rath presented the following list which provides information on what influenced this year’s incoming students to attend the College.

It was decided to hold the additional meeting on Saturday, November 30, at 8 pm and include the following items in its agenda:

I. Awarding Gymnastic Teacher Diplomas to Vorturners

Regarding the award of Gymnastic Teacher Diplomas to Vorturners, who lead the gymnastic classes in national unions, the Administrative Office of the Gymnastic Teachers College presents the following recommendation to the Board of Trustees:

“Vorturners in national unions, who have been leading gymnastic classes in gymnastic schools for no fewer than 8 (eight) years uninterruptedly and successfully, and, in addition, have attended no fewer than three summer courses conducted under the auspices of the North American Turnerbund (Gymnastic Union) or by an institution accredited by the Board of Trustees may receive a diploma after applying for one to the Board of Trustees if the Board agrees unanimously”.

The entire course tuition is $30. 00. Members of the Turnerbund (gymnastic union) receive the usual a 25% discount.

The classes marked with an asteryx (*) are obligatory for gymnastic teachers who have applied for the title “G. G.”. In addition, these applicants must select an additional class from the list above.

III. Below, the following changes are suggested be made in the English catalog:

1. Page 16: Under “Courses offered, 1”, the last paragraph, beginning with “A one-year course leading to certification as teacher of physical training for gymnastic societies”, should be removed.

2. Page 22: Under “Tuition Fees”, we now suggest “The regular tuition fee for these courses is one hundred and fifty dollars per year”. (Currently, the tuition is $125. 00 per year).

3. Page 23: The last paragraph, last sentence, under “Tuition Fees”, it should say: “Tuition is free for the second and every subsequent semester to matriculates belonging to class C who pursue with profit one of the college courses and obtain at the end of each semester in all the exercises in German prescribed for them, including the electives offered in that language, not less than 70%”.

4. Page 52: The first sentence under “Title of Graduate in Gymnastics” should begin with:

“The title of Graduate in Gymnastics, abbreviated G. G., will be conferred on

matriculates who have successfully completed every prescribed subject of the two-year college course in residence, etc.”.
