To achieve goals in life, every human being will face difficulties in his or her life.
Based on this statement, this study aims at analyzing the difficulties experienced by Celie in achieving her goals in life. Celie is the main character in The Color Purple Novel (1982) by Alice Walker. This study discusses three different problems; 1) What are the aims of Celie’s struggles in the novel The Color Purple (1982)? 2) What is the form of Celie’s struggles? and 3) What are the results of her struggles in the novel? The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. In practice, this research is library research using an objective approach. The data collection techniques are in the form of reading and writing. This study found the aims of Celie’s struggles which are, 1) a struggle for self-preservation and 2) a struggle for recognition. In the struggle for recognition, she has no place in both family and household. From her parents’ perspective, Celie is not considered as their daughter.
While in her household, she is not a wife and mother from her husband and son's perspective. Meanwhile, based on the form of her struggle, it was found that there are three efforts; 1) to be braver in fighting 2) to be more open-minded in talking to friends to get advice and 3) to distract herself with things she likes. The results of her struggles change her to be braver and stronger when dealing with the perpetrators that caused difficulties in her life. She is more confident and to eager to enjoy her new life.

Demi mencapai tujuan dalam hidup, setiap manusia pasti akan melewati kesulitan dalam hidupnya. Berdasarkan pada pernyataan tersebut, penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan yang dialami oleh Celie dalam mencapai tujuan hidupnya. Celie merupakan tokoh utama dalam novel The Color Purple (1982) yang ditulis oleh Alice Walker. Penelitian ini membahas tiga rumusan masalah yang berbeda; 1) Apa saja tujuan perjuangan Celie dalam Novel The Color Purple (1982)? 2) Apa saja bentuk dari perjuangan Celie? dan 3) Apa saja hasil atas perjuangannya di dalam novel? Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam pelaksanaannya, penelitian ini merupakan sebuah studi pustaka dengan menggunakan pendekatan objektif.
Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini berupa pembacaan dan pencatatan.
Penelitian ini menemukan tujuan atas perjuangan Celie, 1) perjuangan untuk mempertahankan diri dan 2) perjuangan untuk dapat diakui. Pada perjuangan untuk dapat diakui, ia tidak memiliki tempat baik di dalam keluarga ataupun rumah tangga. Pada perspektif orang tua, Celie tidak dianggap sebagai anak. Sedangkan di rumah tangga, ia bukanlah seorag istri dan ibu dari perspektif suami dan anaknya. Sedangkan melalui bentuk perjuangannya, ditumukan tiga usaha-usaha;
1) menjadi lebih berani untuk melawan 2) lebih terbuka untuk berbicara dengan teman demi memperoleh nasiha serta 3) mendistraksi diri dengan hal yang digemari. Hasil atas perjuangannya mengubahnya menjadi lebih berani dan lebih kuat ketika berhadapan dengan pelaku yang menyebabkan kesulitan dalam hidupnya. Ia menjadi lebih percaya diri, serta memotivasi diri sendiri untuk dapat lebih menikmati hidupnya yang baru.
