Vocabulary is the total number of words that, with rules for combining them, make up a language. In this case, the writer concluded that vocabulary is necessary to be mastered by students. One of the media in vocabulary learning is using an application based on CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) with learning media supported by the computer.
Does Quizlet application improve students' vocabulary mastery in eight grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan Medan?”. Due to this reason, the author will present Quizlet as media in improving the students' vocabulary mastery degree of SMP Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan Medan. Vocabulary is one of the important elements besides grammar and pronunciation, because without vocabulary the students feel difficult to understand the explanation of the teacher or communication to the others.
Furthermore, Hatch and Brown (1995:1) state that vocabulary is the list or set of words for a particular language use. In the process of language learning itself, a good vocabulary is also required to make it easier for the learner to understand their mastery without problems. Productive vocabulary is the set of words that a person can use when writing or speaking.
Vocabulary Assessment
Teachers can undertake a number of activities to ensure that students get the learning objective out of the lesson. The teacher can motivate the student through new ways of teaching that may be appropriate to develop their knowledge and skills and to make students enjoy the learning process. Brown (2004:3) argues that testing is a method of measuring someone's skills, knowledge, or performance in a particular domain.
A number of necessary tests are applied to use the data to measure the students' knowledge of what they have previously learned. Read (2000:2) states that a number of tests can be used to test students' vocabulary, namely: multiple choice, completion, translation and matching.
Digital Linguistics
To be accountable to state education authorities by providing solid evidence of the level of achievement in the school. Harnard (1991:39) says that technology has ushered in a “fourth revolution in the means of knowledge production” that has accelerated processes of globalization. Lee et al in Afrianto (2018:3) explained that Industrial Revolution 4.0 is characterized by an increase in the digitization of production, driven by four factors: 1) increased data volume, computing power and connectivity; 2) emergence of analysis, ability and business intelligence; 3) emergence of new forms of interaction between people and machines; and 4) instructions for digital translation into the physical world, such as robotics and 3D printing.
The development of technology in Industry 4.0 plays an important role in the implementation of Education 4.0. The roles of technology support the teaching and learning process in this digital age because these roles help students to be independent learners. This means that students can learn anything and everywhere by clicking on the many features or platforms on the Internet that relate to the subject they are studying.
Teaching Language through Media
Audiovisual Media: The educational media that conveys the message and also the image or its action can be seen followed by the sound. Games: The teaching media per game done individually, in group or in pairs. As technology is widely used to support learning activities in education, the term Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is also very well known as educational media in Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Beatty (2003:7) defined CALL as “any process by which the learner uses a computer and as a result improves his or her language”. Sanosi (2018:71) says that to enable teachers and course designers to present vocabulary effectively, researchers provide principles that can be applied in different learning situations. One of the concepts proposed in this regard is learning from meaning-focused input, where students are expected to perform deliberate learning activities such as studying vocabulary from bilingual flashcards and doing close exercises.
Strategies of these types are now widely used electronically, taking advantage of the great advances in technology and the evolving approach to computer-assisted language learning (CALL). This use of CALL in the language classroom has changed and expanded the field of L2 teaching and learning. Furthermore, Goodfellow in Miles and Kwon (2008:1) mentions that the use of technology in vocabulary learning covers the things that traditional classroom cannot cover, such as "building a vocabulary, giving students control over the words to be learned , exercises to promote deeper learning and so on”.
Quizlet is one of the popular language learning applications with e-flashcards, engaging games and collaborative activities.

Dictionary.com is a dictionary that will give you the most complete information about the words, as well as provide a large number of synonyms, show the origin of the word and examples of its use. One can play this activity to review the study set and listen to the pronunciation of the word or sentence. Assesses how well users know the definitions of the words and keeps track of what the user misses.
So, this mode lets the user focus on missed or unknown terms in the study session. This mode makes the user race against the clock, matching the terms and definition in the map as fast as possible. The purpose of the research was to measure the success of users by comparing vocabulary test scores for Quizlet users and non-users of the application.
However, when using mobile applications that are not tailored for vocabulary teaching, language teachers should be aware of pedagogical considerations when designing the vocabulary activities. In this case, the author assumes that previous research from the journal “The Effect of Quizlet on Vocabulary Acquisition” was done by Abdulaziz B Sanosi. Using Quizlet Flashcard Software and Its Effects on Vocabulary Learning” was done by Ozer &Kocoglu.
According to the results of the study, the control group with no aid, the Quizlet group with flashcard software and the vocabulary notebook group improved. The vocabulary learning tools (Quizlet and vocabulary notebook) have an effect on vocabulary learning and retention. Vocabulary Mastery of the fourth grade students at SD Negeri 1 & 2 Paket Agung in the academic year was done by Kusumawati, Sudirman and Kusuma, 2017.
The aim of this study was to investigate the meaning effect of digital flashcard media on the vocabulary mastery of the fourth grade students of SD Negeri 1 & 2 Paket Agung in the academic year 2016/2017. The result of testing the hypothesis (independent t-test) indicated that there is a significant effect of digital flashcards on students' vocabulary mastery. In all of the research, Quizlet media was used in vocabulary teaching to make students more interesting in vocabulary learning.
The differences of the research are the level of the students as the object of the research and the research design.

Sample is part of the portion of the population, which is used as the source of the real data of the study. Arikunto argues that the writer took random samples by combining all the subject research into one population and then the writers chose the sample. After the writer mixed these cards for a while, the writer randomly took one card as a study sample and the chosen sample for this study is VIII-10, where the number of students is 30 students.
The writer has taken the lesson material from when English rings the bell for class VIII of high school on the topic Animals around us and things around us. The writer was administered the pre-test and the vocabulary test consists of multiple choice and word meaning matching consists of 20 items. The writer was administered post-test and vocabulary test consisting of multiple choice and word meaning matching up to 20 items to know the students' score in cycle I.
There was no significant improvement in cycle I, the author was post-tested in cycle II. Observation was used to identify all the conditions that occur during the teaching and learning process, including teachers, students and the context of the classroom situation. Questionnaire is the effective data collection if the writer knows exactly which variables are needed to measure and knows what the writer expected from the respondent.
Gillham (2000:4) says that there are two basic types of question format: open and closed questions. In this research the writer used closed questions because it is easier to analyze. The function of questionnaires is to reinforce the data with the respondent's real response to something that has already happened and been done in the respondent's classroom and environment.
Diary notes were used to record the result of the observation during the action and diary notes as the personal records which were usually written by the author daily. The following is the model of action research that Kemmis and McTaggart have considered in Burns (2009:9).

Cycle II
Action in the second cycle is the implementation of revised planning in the first cycle. The procedure in first cycle was changed to improve students' vocabulary mastery by explaining more details about Quizet. The author reviewed students' performance in cycle I and gave some comments, opinions and motivations to do the best in second cycle.
The author observed the students as they learn vocabulary using Quizlet as a medium. The author took the feedback from this vocabulary mastery and learning process from the result of the observation, the problem and the cause of the problem.
