1 A. Background of Study

Learning english pronunciation is a difficult ability to master, particularly if the main objective is to pronounce like a native speaker.

Numerous factors, including a lack of practice, the diversity of English dialects, and the influence of the students' original tongues, may contribute to the difficulty. Despite how challenging it is, pronunciation is something that English language learners should acquire for a variety of reasons.

In this case with the most widely used technology today is social media, particularly YouTube Video Blogs. A vlog is an online video blog generated utilizing internet technology, claims Gunelius (2011). A vlog is a video that is posted online and covers a variety of topics, including learning, amusement, and difficulties. Students in this instance use Vlog to enjoy their education just as much as they enjoy viewing video blogs.

Additionally, by choosing engaging information, students can watch and learn as they please.

With the aid of technology, YouTube Vlog in particular has got some of the best moments on social media today. Users can upload, share, and view videos on YouTube, an online video-sharing or video-hosting service according to Dean (2008) and Weinberg (2009). As a result, a platform like YouTube Vlog enables the growth of a real community, the

sharing of day-to-day activities and conversations from people all over the world, and the viewing of interesting videos for educational purposes, particularly in pronunciation.

According to Alwehaibi's examination (2015), the creation of educational content for EFL students was greatly influenced by YouTube.

YouTube can enhance student learning. Similarly, this study found that students became more motivated. The usage of YouTube in EFL lessons is then investigated by Watts & Wilkins (2011, p.110). This study reveals that YouTube offers a wide range of advantages. Starting out, YouTube can assist students in developing their listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills. Second, it can be used to introduce kids to world English, teach them about culture, and aid in vocabulary growth.

Furthermore, they are able to create reading and writing exercises. This is one of the factors that led to its selection as a tool for encouraging the study of English, especially in the field of English pronunciation.

In this instance, using YouTube Vlog as a tool to learn English pronunciation will be more effective if the Vlogger is a native English speaker, specifically a Native English Vlog, as pointed out by Medgyes (1992, p.43). Native English teachers are particularly skilled at using conversational and spontaneous language to teach pronunciation and serve as role models for students in this field, The ability to make native English sounds allows the native speaker to teach students how to do so. The majority of English teachers are non-native speakers, same like in

Indonesia. Around 80% of English teachers in the globe do not speak the language fluently stated by Canagarajah (1999). Students should study with a Native teacher in a Youtube Vlog because there are more non- native English teachers than native English teachers, which will help them build their skills independently.

Consequently, because the Vlog is in its original language, the Native teacher influences the students' learning. Bilingual educators may be viewed as the greatest English instructors in the future. The researcher also examines how Indonesian students, see the use of other forms of media for learning, particularly Native teachers who post learning Vlogs on YouTube.

As stated in surah Taha (verses 25-28):

يِل ۡىَق ْاىُهَقۡفَي يِناَسِّل نِّم ٗةَدۡقُع ۡلُل ۡحٱ َو ي ِر ۡمَأ ٓيِل ۡرِّسَي َو ي ِرۡدَص يِل ۡح َر ۡشٱ ِّب َر َلاَق

The verse gives advice that the prayer above asks Allah SWT for spaciousness, ease of all things, and ease of all utterances. In verse called 'expand for me my chest' meaning that all the hassles that are stifling the chest can be lifted so that they turn into ease. “Make my things simple for me” signifies that Allah SWT simplifies everything for me.Followed by 'remove the stiffness of my tongue so that they understand my words', meaning a request to Allah SWT so that every human being understands everything she or he says.

Then, the previous researcher has conducted many types of studies that are relevant to the topic of this research. To start, from "Students'

Perceptions on the use of Google Translate in learning Pronunciation made by Khasanah, Madjdi and Nuraeningsih (2022) did a prior in Islamic public senior high school in Kudus, Indonesia. The findings revealed that students' opinion of using Google Translate Application was positive as media in learning pronunciation. Next, from Rahmawati and Ratmanida (2020) and the research is The Improvement of Students’ English Pronunciation by Using Animation 3D Video for the Second Years Students of Junior High School 1. The results of this study to show that the implementation of animation video in learning process has beneficial effect on students’ pronunciation.

Lastly, a previous study “Students’ Perception on the Use of English Songs to Learn Pronunciation” by Makasoe, Liando and Rombepajung (2022) from Universitas Negeri Manado. The study was to find that the English Songs as a media could be useful for students in the process of learning English especially to learn pronunciation.

Based on the finding that only a small number of students from junior high school learn English with good enough pronunciation and have the enthusiasm. Additionally, because the teacher hardly ever gives pronunciation courses using the traditional style of teaching, many students use Native English Vlogs to help them learn English pronounciation. students.

These claims motivate the researcher's desire to learn more about how students from junior high school at perceive pronunciation instruction

and their learning methods. The researcher takes a qualitative approach in this study. The information in this section describes how students perceive and use native English vlogs and independent learning to develop pronunciation.

Based on the background of study the researcher is interested in conducting a study on “LEARNING PRONUNCIATION THROUGH NATIVE ENGLISH VLOG”. In this case, the researcher adjust qualitative research. With the wish that this research can give interests for students to learn English especially in terms of pronunciation, improve their pronunciation ability, creativity to study with several strategies using a media as a tool for fun learning.

B. Definition of Key Terms 1. Independent Learning

Independent learning is a strategy or practice that gives students ownership and control over their education.

2. Learning Strategy

Learning strategy is how they organize and apply a certain set of skills to study material or complete other tasks more quickly and effectively in academic and non-academic environments.

3. Students’ Perception

Students' perception is their viewpoint on the learning environment, circumstance, and everything else linked to their individual study of Native English Vlogs for English Pronunciation.

4. Native English Vlog

Native English Vlog is video blog from YouTube that are created in the English language and native speaker as a vlogger is someone who regularly posts videos on the internet where they discuss a certain subject or document their ideas and experiences.

C. Research Questions

1. What are the students’ strategies in learning pronunciation through the use of Native English Vlogs?

2. How are the students’ perceptions about Native English Vlog in learning Pronunciation?

D. Objectives of Study

1. To find out several students' strategies from junior high school for developing their pronunciation abilities through the use of native English vlog.

2. To cover several students from junior high school perceptions of the use of native English vlog

E. Significance of Study

The significance of this study, find out how students’ perception in learning pronunciation using vlog and their strategies toward it. Hopeful this research is useful as the students can utilized this media to help their acquire pronunciation in order to enhance their motivation and self- esteem. This research is also hopefully useful for students as an enjoyment associated with studying English pronunciation through the viewing of

Native English Vlog. In addition, researcher also hopefully this is useful for future researchers in identifying the most appropriate topic for their next study.
