IUPUI has long awarded scholarships to both incoming and continuing students in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership and community service. This listing contains information intended for current IUPUI students, transfer students and students returning to IUPUI. New, incoming

Eligibility is based on academic merit, although some scholarships also consider financial need. These need-based scholarships require that the student file the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov). For information on the FAFSA and/or more detailed information on financial aid other than what is provided in this brochure, please see the IUPUI financial aid website at www.iupui.edu/~finaid/.

This list is only a partial list of general and major-specific scholarships that are available at IUPUI. We encourage you to contact your academic school and/or department to inquire about scholarship opportunities within their areas. Undergraduate Graduation Incentive Grant

The $2,500 Graduation Incentive Grant is designed to encourage continuing undergraduate IUPUI students towards the completion of their first undergraduate degree by May 2013 by providing funding to support full-time enrollment. This grant may be received for up to two semesters if funding continues to be available.

Eligibility Requirements:

Student must be a rising/current senior IUPUI undergraduate student previously enrolled part-time (completed less than 12 credit hours per semester) for the 2011-2012 academic year

Student should be seeking their first bachelor degree Student will enroll full-time for the Fall 2012 semester Students should:Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

• have 30 credit hours or less left to complete their undergraduate degree at IUPUI

• Could graduate within one academic year if they began attending fulltime

• Student must have financial need with a FAFSA on file at IUPUI (EFC of $15,000 or less)

• Student must have the Academic Advisor Review Form completed by an academic advisor to provide verification

Jesse H. & Beulah Chanley Cox Scholarship Approximately $15,000, renewable up to three years Deadline: March 15, application

The Indiana University Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship for working students through the generosity of Jesse H. and Beulah Chanley Cox. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time

undergraduate students (carrying 12 or more credit hours) on the IUPUI campus, pursuing their first undergraduate degree and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Other requirements for application include: resident of the state of Indiana; demonstrate a commitment to funding your own

education by working to contribute at least 25% of the standard cost of attendance; be of sophomore, junior or senior standing upon receipt of the scholarship.

*McCracken Assist Scholarship Up to $1,000

Deadline: March 15

This scholarship was created to assist single, custodial parents at IUPUI pursuing their first

undergraduate degree to help them meet educational goals by providing assistance with educational expenses. This scholarship is financial need-based, although academic progress and potential are considered as well. Students must have applied for financial aid and must have financial need as determined by the FAFSA and the Office of Student Financial Aid Services. Applicants must be U.S.

citizens and/or permanent residents who are also Indiana residents. To be eligible, applicants must have completed at least 9 credit hours at IUPUI with a minimum 2.75 GPA within the last year.

Nina Mason Pulliam Scholars Program Full In-state tuition, fees, books and living allowance Deadline: March 1

This scholarship was created to honor Nina Mason Pulliam who was a journalist, business leader, a humanitarian, and a lover of all creatures. This scholarship honors the memory of this modern pioneer and is available to incoming freshmen, ages 18-25, who have been raised through the foster care system and have no form of financial support, or are college age youth and adults with physical disabilities, or students who are 25 years or older who have dependents in their family unit.

Applicants must be admitted to IUPUI, be a U.S. citizen and resident of Indiana, have previously completed no more than 24 college-level, degree-applicable credit hours, and be working toward their first college degree. Priority is given to applicants who have household incomes of 80% or less of the Marion County, Indiana median. Application requires an essay, an official academic transcript and demonstrable financial need as determined by the FAFSA and at least 2 letters of recommendation.

The program provides variable financial support toward the Cost of Attendance for up to 6 years at

IUPUI. In addition, the program covers fees and books as well as a living allowance of $2,750 annually.

SSACI Education and Nursing Scholarship Up to $1,000

Scholarships from the State of Indiana are available for IUPUI students who have been admitted to the Schools of Nursing and Education who meet other requirements. The state offers Nursing, Special Education, and Minority Teaching Scholarships. Applications are available at the Schools of Education and Nursing. A FAFSA must be on file. Consideration for renewal requires re-application every year.

*Welfare Service League Scholarship

$500

Deadline: March 15

The Marion County Office of Family and Children awards students who receive services provided by their office. If you currently receive services through the Foster Parent Program or Child Welfare Program, you are encouraged to apply. You must be a current IUPUI student pursuing your first undergraduate degree, have a 3.0 GPA and be registered for at least 6 credit hours. You must also provide proof of your receipt of service (i.e your EBT card with name, a letter from a caseworker, etc.).

RISE Scholarships

Center on Philanthropy

IUPUI is committed to helping students learn as much outside the classroom as in it. RISE is an initiative that encourages undergraduates to incorporate at least two of the four RISE-designated experiences – research, international, service learning and experiential learning – into their degree programs. RISE experiences provide skills, knowledge and real-world opportunities that are highly prized by employers and establish a foundation for future leaders. Kelley School of Business Mays Family RISE Scholarship

In support of Kelley School of Business Indianapolis undergraduate students. Special consideration will be given to underrepresented populations, including but not limited to financially challenged students, and/or students with diverse cultural experiences. Students must be registered in a course which has a R-I-S-E designation, be enrolled fulltime in the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI, and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. General Scholarships

IUPUI Road Scholars Parking Program

Outstanding academic performance at IUPUI brings a prized perk for continuing undergraduate students - free parking for one semester. This program, started in 2007 by Uday Sukhatme,

Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties at IUPUI, rewards students who complete at least 12 credit hours each during the fall and spring semesters of an academic year and achieve at least a 3.8 grade point average for each semester. They receive free parking during the fall semester of the following year. The award enables students to park in any of the E-designated parking spaces on campus. Students who qualify are automatically eligible (no application required) and are notified by letter of the award.

*Indiana Members Credit Union Scholarship

$1,000

Deadline: March 15

Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale and complete an essay. Preference will be given to applicants who are a current member or have a parent or guardian that is a current member of Indiana Members Credit Union. The recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average based on a 4.0 grading scale throughout the academic year of which the Scholarship is made. Two undergraduate students will be awarded from University College each year.

IU Alumni Association Scholarship Up to $1,000

Central Indiana Chapter of the IUAA Scholarship

$1,000 and $2,000

The Central Indiana Chapter of the IU Alumni Association created a scholarship program to recognize the accomplishments and financial need of Chapter area residents. A total of five scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year will be awarded, four in the amount of $1,000 each and one in the amount of

$2,000 (IUAA President’s Award presented by the CICIUAA), to undergraduate and/or graduate students from Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, or Hendricks counties who will be attending any campus of Indiana University. The application form is available at

*Dr. Arthur Mirsky Senior Academy Academic Scholarship Up to $2,000

Deadline: March 15, admission and application

The Senior Academy at IUPUI has established a scholarship program designed to partially support tuition and books for students who will be graduating seniors who expect to graduate with a baccalaureate degree at the end of the Spring Semester. Applications will be reviewed and the awardee selected by the Senior Academy Scholarship Awards Committee. Applicants must (1) be in good academic standing at IUPUI, (2) have successfully completed at least 90 credit-hours prior to

the semester the student is to receive funding, (3) have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, and (4) agree to enroll during the Fall-Spring Semesters for the number of credit-hours required to graduate at the end of the Spring Semester, but for no less than a total of 20 credit-hours during the last year. The applicant must also (a) submit an academic transcript, (b) submit two letters of recommendation from current or former instructors, and (c) complete an essay on your academic goals, how you are achieving them, community service, and your plans after receiving your baccalaureate degree.

Community Service Scholarships

*Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship

$3,500

The Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program recognizes IUPUI students for previous service to their high school, campus, or community, and supports their continued involvement in educationally meaningful service, leadership, and social advocacy. Sam H. Jones was a dedicated public servant who provided dynamic leadership as the Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Urban League. The program honors Sam H. Jones’ legacy as a community leader whose vision and dedication improved the quality of life for many in Central Indiana. Community Service Scholars will volunteer for four hours per week throughout the academic year at a select service agency. In addition, Community Service Scholars will enroll and complete a service learning course (P330) in the Fall, and work with others to coordinate a campus-wide service event. Community Service Scholars agree to enroll in at least 9 credit hours per semester and participate in planned community service and leadership development activities during the year. Applicants must have completed 15 IUPUI total credit hours by the end of the spring semester of application and maintain a 2.75 GPA.

*Rotaract Altruism Scholarship in Honor of John Henry Weidner

$1,500 non-renewable Deadline: March 15

This scholarship is awarded to an IUPUI student who exemplifies the spirit of altruism: unselfish concern for the welfare of others. It is named in honor of John Henry Weidner who displayed great altruism in assisting over 1,000 innocent people during WWII who were fleeing from Nazi persecution along the French-Dutch border. In addition to this application, candidates for the award may be asked to submit a supplemental application, and finalists will be interviewed. This scholarship is funded by the Rotary Club of Indianapolis and the recipient will be chosen by the John Weidner Scholarship Committee: a panel of Rotaract Club officers, advisers, and others designated by Rotaract.

America Reads/America Counts Team Leader Scholarships

The Sam H. Jones Service Scholarship Program recognizes IUPUI students for previous service to their high school, campus, or community, and supports their continued involvement in educationally meaningful service, leadership, and social advocacy. Sam H. Jones was a dedicated public servant who provided dynamic leadership as the Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Urban League. The program honors Sam Jones’ legacy as a community leader whose vision and dedication improved the

quality of life for many in Central Indiana. The America Reads*America Counts Team Leader scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated commitment and leadership to the America Reads*America Counts tutoring program. America Reads*America Counts Team Leaders will dedicate 7 hours per week Fall Semester and 5 hours per week Spring Semester to leading a team of coaches at a designated America Reads*America Counts coaching site. Team Leaders agree to enroll in at least 9 credit hours per semester and attend monthly leadership development trainings. Eligibility requirements: Completion of at least 2 semesters as an America Reads*America Counts coach, prior to applying (**you may be completing your 2nd semester of coaching when applying).

Service Learning Assistant Program

$750 - $3,000 per semester depending on award level;

Deadlines: Fall – August 15th, Spring – November 15th, Summer I/II – April 15th

As part of the Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program, Service Learning Assistant (SLA) scholarships are available to recognize IUPUI students who have been selected by faculty or professional staff to support community engaged faculty work in teaching, research and service. SLAs may assist their faculty/staff mentor:

• in the design/implementation of a service learning class,

• conducting a community-engaged research project,

• supporting capacity building for the expansion of service learning within a campus department or unit, or

• implementing a professional service project in and with the community.

Unlike other service scholarships at IUPUI, faculty and staff complete the Service Learning Assistant scholarship application and then select a student to contribute to the faculty/staff members’ civic engagement project. Please note that SLA scholarships are granted to support faculty/staff projects, not independent student research projects. Eligible undergraduate students who wish to serve as an SLA are as follows:

1. Having completed at least 15 credit hours at IUPUI.

2. Carry at least a 2.75 grade point average.

3. Enroll in and complete at least 9 credit hours at IUPUI/IUPUC during the semester in which they receive the SLA scholarship.

If you are interested in becoming an SLA, talk to faculty/staff in your department or with whom you have taken classes to learn which faculty/staff may have an active interest in civic engagement and be in need of an SLA. Some faculty/staff may be engaged in projects and need student assistance but not know that these scholarship funds are available so go armed with information. ServiceCorps Scholarships Award: $1500

As scholars, Service Corps scholars are required to attend monthly trainings on social justice issues, lead service and reflection activities throughout the year, and continually be educated on issues of social justice and diversity. Service Corps is open to both

undergraduate and graduate students that registered full-time.

Candidates must possess strong communication skills, have experience in volunteering or in

leadership positions, have an interest in social justice issues, and feel confident leading groups of their peers. Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours and Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to be considered. Applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Community Service Leaders

$4,000

The Community Service Leaders recognizes students that have been previous participants within the Sam H Jones scholarship program as a Community Service Scholar. This scholarship program is only for continuing students who have been a part of the Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program prior to applying. Community Service Leaders complete 10 hours of in and out of office hours weekly per academic year. Each scholar is required to complete tasks listed under their job

description, work wiht other CSL's and Office of Community Service staff to coordinate assigned tasks. Community Service leaders are required to attend monthly leadership trainings and service events.

Eligibility requirements: Completion of at least 2 semesters as a Sam H Jones Community Service Scholar. Applicants must maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Fugate Scholarship Program Award: $3500

Fugate Scholars is part of a larger Learning Communities Initiative at George Washington Community School (GWCS). College students implement various college preparatory curricula to student’s grades 5 – 12 at the school or at various sites where students will matriculate to GWCS. Fugate Scholars will be required to fulfill their hours by serving in two specific ways. First, they will implement college

prep activities during the school day to various designated classrooms. Second, Fugate Scholars will either assist as tutors in AVID classes or serve as college student role models in the existing after- school programs at their sites. This may include homework tutoring and leading or supervising an after-school club or activity. Fugate Scholars receive a $1000 scholarship from IUPUI at the beginning of service each semester and will also be awarded an additional $750 education award from The Learning Community Initiative upon completing their service throughout the semester.

Applicants must enroll at IUPUI for 9 credit hours per semester, volunteer 6 hours per week and attend relevant trainings and scholarship specific meetings. Applicants must maintain a 2.75 GPA.

Community Partner Scholarship Program Award: $4,000

The Community Partner Scholars (CPS) serve as IUPUI campus liaisons to the Indianapolis

community. The Community Partner Scholars will engage in activities to assist community partners in meeting their missions while serving as student advocates for civic engagement on the IUPUI campus.

Community partner sites are chosen based on their established relationship with IUPUI and their involvement in supporting the campus civic engagement mission. CPS are required to volunteer 10 hours per week during the academic year. Previous involvement as a Sam H Jones Community Service or Fugate Scholar (preferred). Applicants must have completed a minimum of at least 45 credit hours at IUPUI and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA. CPS are required to enroll at IUPUI for at least nine credit hours per semester, work as a resource to their assigned community partnership site, participate in related community meetings and develop a sustainability plan based on community site responsibilities.

Research Scholarships

IUPUI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers undergraduate research grants and travel funds to encourage and recognize undergraduates who participate in research and other creative projects with faculty in all disciplines, including music and art. Formal research credits may be earned toward graduation and may be translated into a research transcript notation upon completion of a research portfolio. Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP)

The Indiana LSAMP program, a National Science Foundation funded project, offers summer and academic year research fellowships and awards to encourage eligible undergraduate students from ethnic populations that are traditionally under-represented in the baccalaureate degree programs to persist and graduate from a Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Technology (STEM) program. The eight-week summer research training program at IUPUI, includes working with faculty mentors, designing research projects, and attending a research conferences, is carefully crafted to provide the participants early research experiences and personalized interactions with faculty mentors, supporting staff in the Center for Research and Learning, and a network of state-wide research interested peers.

LSAMP Scholars receive $3,000 stipends for doing summer research in STEM projects. MURI (Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Institute)

MURI is a research institute within the School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, established to foster inter/ multidisciplinary team research. Students are selected from different disciplines to participate as a team under the mentorship of engineering and technology faculty members or researchers. Projects normally involve more than one traditional science and engineering discipline.

Interested students select from and apply to projects that are defined by mentors of MURI and may work during the summer or academic year. Qualified students receive $1,500 stipend for their involvement in the projects. They can also receive independent research course credits pending the approval of their degree programs. Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program Applications are due by March 1

The Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program is a national scholarship program supported by the U.S.

Department of Education and IUPUI. The program sponsors undergraduate students who are first- generation, low-income college attendees and students who are from populations that are underrepresented in graduate education. The mission of the program is to encourage and support these student participants to aspire to and attain careers requiring the Ph.D. This highly selective and prestigious program engages students in faculty-mentored research throughout their undergraduate careers and supports them with a summer stipend. Students may be admitted as soon as they attain junior status and may apply in their sophomore year. Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)

$3,000

Deadline: February 28

SROP offers outstanding undergraduates the opportunity to conduct research during an intensive 8 week session. Students that have traditionally been underrepresented in graduate school, in their field of study, first-generation college students, or students who have a particular interest in conducting research on topics that affect minority populations are encouraged to apply for this competitive summer research program. The program gives undergraduate student first-hand exposure to the experiences of graduate school by placing them with faculty whose work is closely related to their academic interests and career goals. The summer experience includes working with a faculty mentor on a research project, attending research related seminars and workshops, attending an annual summer research conference, and networking with a diverse group of student-fellows in a variety of summer research programs. Fellows are awarded a stipend for their participation. For more

The Diversity Scholars Research Program is primarily aimed at attracting academically talented freshmen pursuing an education in the research setting who will contribute to the diversity of IUPUI.

Students in the program are part of a group of undergraduate scholars who benefit from the research activities, individual support and scholarship funding leading to graduation with a four year degree.

Priority is given to incoming high school students who meet minimum eligibility requirement. A continuing IUPUI student may apply and awards are based on availability. This award is made to students in a variety of majors at IUPUI and is highly competitive.

Eligibility requirements for incoming high school students

Student must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have at least a 1070 SAT (math and critical reasoning sections only) or 23 ACT score.

Student must have at least a B grade in all math and science courses.

Student must supply at least two (2) letters of recommendation, one which must be from a math or science teacher.

Student must be an Indiana resident and/or be a US citizen or permanent resident. A scholar may continue in the program for up to 4 years if he/she maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Students from racial and ethnic populations who have been historically underrepresented in institutions of higher education in Indiana and whose presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity at IUPUI are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility requirements for continuing IUPUI students

Minimum of 25 credit hours completed at IUPUI by end of spring semester during which the application is being made

Have a minimum 3.5 grade point average

Must have at least two remaining years of study at IUPUI (cannot be a senior) Contribute to the diversity at IUPUI (Essay required)

Diversity Scholarships

Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program Up to $3000 per academic year for merit or financial need Up to $6,000 per academic year for both merit and financial need Deadline: March 1, admission and application

The Norman Brown Diversity & Leadership Program is designed to recruit, retain and prepare serious, academically gifted students who have demonstrated a commitment and/or desire to develop

leadership skills for today’s multicultural world. Program participants are encouraged to attain academic success, engage in leadership and civic activities, and prepare for work force entry. All scholars are required to enroll full time; maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA; participate in specific

program functions; and meet on a regular basis with an assigned IUPUI faculty/staff mentor.

Continuing and transfer student applicants must be Indiana residents and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students are only considered for the fall semester. Preference is given to transfer student and continuing students who have completed 12 credit hours (but no more than 60 up to junior status). This program is an integral part of IUPUI’s efforts to foster the benefits of educational diversity, in part by assuring the obtainment of a critical mass of students from underrepresented minority backgrounds with a history of discrimination. As such, during the application process positive considerations are given to students from underrepresented minority backgrounds and whose

presence will enhance the learning environment through increased diversity at IUPUI. Additional consideration is also given to students with significant financial need as defined by the FAFSA.

Scholarship open to freshmen and sophomore students

The Olaniyan (Oh-LAWN-eee-yawn) Scholars Program offers academically gifted students interested in the study of black populations the opportunity to work with a full-time faculty mentor to design a research project that will explore some issue or aspect of the lives, history, traditions, or interests of people of African descent. Students will also participate in community internships that encourage civic engagement and partnerships with organizations working to enrich, support, uplift, and encourage African and African American populations within the Indianapolis community. The program is open to students of all races, nationalities, and backgrounds with preference given to students from

underrepresented populations in higher education. All scholars must enroll full time (12-15 credit hours), maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, participate in specific program functions and internship experiences, and meet regularly with their faculty mentor. Applicants can be Indiana or out-of-state residents (out-of-state applicants must contact the Scholarship Office/Financial Aid Office to apply for aid to cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition), meet IUPUI’s regular admissions criteria, and have a cumulative 2.7 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on their high school transcripts. *Sindoqua Scholarship for Native Americans Up to $1,000

Deadline: March 15

Preference for this award will be given to Native American Women. The successful applicants will be enrolled with a tribe native, or once native, to the state of Indiana. Priority will be given to members of the Miami, Potawatomi, Shawnee, Wea, Kickapoo, Ottawa, Chippewa, Delaware or Mohican tribes (tribes do not need to be federally recognized), who can verify the enrollment of the applicant. Other members enrolled with any recognized tribes in the United States or Canada are also welcome to apply.

Leadership Scholarships

*Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Award Up to $2,000

Deadline: March 15

This leadership award was established to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership abilities and an appreciation of basic American values through a record of achievement in community services or service to IUPUI. Juniors and seniors with a 3.5 GPA in academic work are eligible to apply. Preference is given to students in Liberal Arts, Science and Business.

OTEAM Orientation and First Year Seminars What’s OTEAM?

The OTEAM is a group of undergraduate students who lead the summer orientation programs and mentor the first year seminar courses during the fall semester. OTEAM members receive a scholarship for their service to the campus community. In order to be eligible for the OTEAM Leadership

Scholarship you must meet the following:

Must be a current undergraduate student at IUPUI.

Applicant must be currently enrolled at IUPUI.

Must have completed 12 credit hours at IUPUI.

Must have a 2.8 GPA and be in good standing with the University.

Possess positive communication and teamwork skills.

Be creative and have personal initiative.

Be willing to work with a diverse group of people.

Have a desire to interact with students, families, faculty and staff.

Mentoring First Year Seminars

First Year Seminar mentors are members of the course instructional team, which consist of: a faculty member, advisor, librarian, and the student mentor. The mentor’s role is to present themselves as a model student. The mentor helps introduce students to resources, expectations, successful academic habits and the campus community. During the fall semester mentors must:

Be able to commit an average of 5 hours a week to the First Year Seminar Course (including time in class).

Actively present and participate in the First Year Seminar course.

Attend all training programs during your scholarship term.

Participate in all scholarship related activities and meetings.

Enroll in an UCOL mentoring class, which is covered by the scholarship.

International Student Scholarship Opportunities

International Student Grant Deadline: March 15 (Fall semester) October 15 (Spring semester)

The International Student Grant program provides scholarships to international undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who have a strong academic record and who are experiencing severe financial hardship. Award amounts vary. The student must hold F-1 or J-1 student visa status, be assessed tuition at the out-of-state rate, and have completed at least two semesters of full-time coursework at IUPUI at the time the award begins. Some IUPUI scholarships do require U.S. citizenship and/or Indiana residency, as well as financial need as defined by the FAFSA.
