In the Black church, the pastor is an important interpreter of the full Black experience.25 W. This review formed the basis for the study and aided in the analysis of the research findings. Whelchel shares that the black pastor has historically played a large role throughout the African American experience.

However, we question whether the Bible addresses the oppression of the African American community. Instead, this exercise focuses specifically on the race and gender component of intersectionality theory.

Preliminary Procedures

After refining via expert panel, I developed and cemented a protocol that formed the schedule for each of the interviews. The interview process took place in two phases: initial and follow-up.14 The initial interview took place in person or via video software. Two pilot interviews were conducted to test the interview protocol for discussion flow and adherence to the research purpose. This process helped with the formulation of the wording and sequence of the final questions asked by the study.

During the research, an investigative journal was kept with detailed information about processes, background information and additional parts of the interviews. The aim of the magazine was to contribute to the formulation of 'rich, thick descriptions' as described by Creswell.16. To further ensure the validity and reliability of the study, two pilot interviews were conducted after the development of the interview protocol and schedule.

These two interviews were not included in the findings of the overall research, but were conducted as if they were. The purpose of these interviews was to assist with the familiarization of the interview schedule and to help identify possible events likely to occur during the interview process.17 The themes that emerged from the interviews were combined with the precedent literature for evaluation purposes. consider.

Interview Schedule

The purpose of this interview schedule was to have participants detail their experiences and perspectives in light of the framework of race, faith, and leadership. In order to do this, I aimed to build rapport with the participants through the interview process. This process consisted of the ten semi-structured interviews where I followed the predetermined questions but allowed the participants to deviate from those questions as long as the content stayed on track.

Furthermore, the two-part interview process illustrated the importance of an ongoing report for both myself as the researcher and the interviewee. Data collection took place in a two-fold manner: (1) participant interviews, and (2) participant submission of appropriate content (sermons, journal, blog/social media posts, Bible study and Sunday school curriculum).19 The initial phase of data collection lasted . the form of interviews. Member checking helps in the research process as the researcher asks the participants' views of the credibility of the research findings.20 Although it serves as a measure of reliability, it also ensures the accuracy of the interview process.

The research insisted on this accuracy and validation strategy as a form of critique for participants to provide critical observations and interpretations for the advancement and accuracy of the research. Essentially, participants were able to review the research data analysis with the option to provide feedback, change or approve.21 Therefore, participants were given the opportunity to be active in the findings and the data collection processes.

Data Organization

This phenomenological analysis was guided by the research questions about the lived experience of the human phenomenon.27. As a result, the analysis followed the framework of the research on fluidity and transparency. Since the significance of this study is paramount, reliability and validity measures are essential to reach valuable conclusions.

Tisdell emphasizes how important it is to note any potential researcher bias at the outset of the study.31 As a result, researcher bias for this study was addressed in the design brief. His church is located in Hazelwood, Missouri, which is within the requested radius of 2014 Michael Brown Jr. His church listed within the specified radius of the 2016 incident that resulted in the loss of life of Terence Crutcher.

Participant Pastor 7 pastors an African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AME Zion) church in Charlotte, North Carolina, within the claimed radius of the Keith Lamond Scott incident with the police resulting in loss of life. He has served in this role for over 32 years and his church is within the required radius of the 2014 incident that resulted in the death of Michael Brown Jr.

African American Experience

The third subcategory within the first major theme of the African American experience was the black church. Within this subcategory, there was one prominent contributor to the African American experience—the history and function of the black church. All participants detailed different perspectives on what the black church means to the black community.

The Black Church is a clearinghouse of our questions and challenges, where they can be addressed and negotiated. But the importance of the black church in the community, when I look around this country, has seriously diminished. PP2 argues that the black church “was once the center of our community in terms of social justice and events.

PP3 agrees that the importance of the Black Church is about reaching out to the community and immediately publicly addressing any misperception of the Church. Fourth, of course, is the Black Church, which provides moral and spiritual grounding and guidance.

Racial Tensions and Reconciliation

It negates the history of the black church and what it means for black people and our liberation to say there is no black church.” However, PP2 and PP4 disagree in that PP2 claims that there are churches “that are multiethnic, but I would look at them as a black church in terms of their approach to worship and how they see outreach and how they speak out against social issues. .” On the other hand, PP4 states that "a black church is a church that is not only composed primarily of black people, but is powerful, and its politics are controlled by people of color." PP3 describes racism as "the use of this false construct of race to dominate and in a real sense, to dehumanize another race for the benefit of another race". PP10 contributes that it is "the consequence of that false definition of race. It is the ideology that falsely supports and justifies offensive policies and actions that defend the superiority of one group of one group of people with different human traits over another."

It's about owning and controlling land, it's about being able to educate our children, it's about finding a sector in society that we control. It's not okay as long as I'm serving in an area where people are poor and walking the streets and I have to feed them because they can't have a job while you're serving in an area where you have everything you need and more. and you're telling me, "Let's just praise God together." Guess where they turn for help when it's directly related to a racial problem.

I'm thankful to have that alternative out there for those who want to attend interracial church because they think it's biblical. For those who want their children to grow up in a multi-racial context, as opposed to a mono-racial one, there is an option out there for them.

Expectations of African American Pastors American Pastors

Abortion is the vast majority of the time the cause of the disappearance of the African American community. A topic of interest that three of the participants focused on involved the importance of disciplining the black family. American Pastors is Leadership Beyond the Pulpit, which looks at the role of African-American pastors in serving as all things to all people.

There was a general expectation in how participants saw the leadership responsibilities of the African American pastor extending beyond the pulpit. But we really didn't see a lot of the changes that were implemented that were things that we thought would be beneficial in us. In fact, I had to get through most of the situations that happened.

Another commonality shared among some participants is their understanding, and in some cases acceptance, of liberation theology and its relationship to serving and uplifting the Black community as part of the "African American pastor's responsibility ." As a component of liberation, PP4 argues that as part of the Black community, there are two things we must do in the black community, and whether it is the Christian community or not, let's just say the black community.

Advice to Pastors

Within the first major theme were three subcategories of the African American experience: streams of consciousness, black identity, and black church. The third subcategory of the first major theme of African American experience was the black church. The third theme that emerged from the data was the expectation of the African American pastor.

How African-American pastors see the intersection of race and faith has affected their lived experience. In what ways has the lived experience of African American pastors influenced their pastoral ministry. How do African-American pastors see the intersection of race and faith affecting their lived experience?” Each of these subthemes addresses a component of the African American experience in relation to the study.

This issue does not seem to have been addressed in the literature on African American pastors or the black church recently. Research question 2 asks: "In what ways has the life experience of African American pastors affected their pastoral ministry?".
