Using results from the pre-internship questionnaire to identify key areas of spiritual and ministry growth, the pastor and intern established specific spiritual and ministry performance targets and developed a plan for personal growth toward each target.5 The intern and I met monthly meet for six months to review incremental progress toward each target, which is documented on an Internship Accountability Form. It also shows how the intern will be empowered by the strengths of the black church. Since the intern was married, the intern's spouse completed an identical assessment of the intern.

Edwards writes: “It is noted in the Gospel of John that Peter and Andrew, and perhaps other disciples, had previously been acquainted with Jesus before they were called. William Lane argues that the number twelve has clear redemptive historical significance: "The Twelve represent in a new form the nation of the twelve tribes, Israel." He believes that the disciples represent the ultimate form of the messianic community, the eschatological creation of God.14. In Matthew 10, just before the appointment of the twelve disciples, Jesus said, “The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.

In Decline of African American Theology, Anyabwile argues that preaching in the black church began to decline: “The Harlem Renaissance as a society pursued the New Negro and NEW Man ideologies, with their emphasis on self-help and. A critical element in the success of the black church is the activity of women in the church. The most effective way to do this is to invest in the most successful and poignant institution in the African-American community—the church.

In addition to completing the monthly reporting form, the intern was asked to read a book that would help him clean in an African American context.2 The intern was given a reading list of six books, of which four were required and two were suggested. The intern was responsible for helping to identify where most of the members lived in the city. The intern was also required to provide ongoing care and training to community group leaders.

In its joint written review of the project, the panel commented: “The biblical basis for this project is strong and clear. In its review, the panel concluded that it had prepared the intern, stating, “The concept of an intern is easily translatable to any ministerial role, especially as the intern seeks to grow in personal character and personal skills. He stated, "I achieve these goals by sticking to a written accountability plan for the structure of my week." The intern also successfully initiated and implemented a community groups program at FBC.

Finally, a critical component to the success of the project was the intern's personal experience with the internship. I assume these elements of the internship will be remembered and will have the most impact on the intern. Woods became the first African-American associate executive director in the history of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Peter Scazzero offers a helpful section in The Emotionally Healthy Leader where he talks about "the five-step process of how we learn and change."

Would Do Differently

Deliberately involving leaders at the KBC in the details of the project could have enhanced the replication of the model within the KBC and other state conventions as a model of reconciliation. As previously argued in chapter 2 of this project, discipleship is the way of Jesus, therefore it is the way of the kingdom of God. The second reflection is that internships are a great reminder to pastors and churches of the diverse gifts that God has given to the church.

Similarly, in 1 Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that they were "the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." The intern serving at FBC was gifted in ways that pastors and other staff members were not. The third theological reflection focuses on the description of the gathering of the early church as a gospel community in Acts 2:42-46. However, many Christians and churches in the twenty-first century seem to overlook the two most fundamental identities of a Christian.

After completing this project, I sent the five chapters to Steve Rice, who is the leader of the church revival department at the KBC and also leads the project expert panel. The KBC has much to learn from African-American churches, and African-American churches can learn from the revival current of the convention. 1. This project fulfilled its purpose and most of the objectives identified in the opening chapter.

Forest becomes a place of hope in one of Louisville's most spiritually deprived areas. Prayerfully, using KBC funding, Forest would design a structured internship that addresses areas of church health need and employ the intern part-time to full-time to help meet those needs. This program could stimulate growth and change at many of KBC's inner-city ministries and churches.

He was lovingly accepted by our church community and regularly learns and participates in the spiritual formation of the church. Pastors must meet beforehand with the revival department to evaluate the health of the church. Above reproach—Your reputation among non-Christians Marital fidelity—Your relationship with your spouse Moderate—The extent to which you maintain balance.

Comments – The internship concept can be easily translated for any ministerial role, especially as the intern seeks to grow in personal character and personal skills. Comment - The model can be easily reproduced due to the strong biblical basis, simplicity and flexibility.
