RESEARCH METHOD

The Types and Characteristics of Research

The purpose of using surveys for descriptive research is to get a good handle on certain things. Descriptive qualitative analysis involves describing common underlying characteristics of the data. Descriptive qualitative research is useful because it can provide essential insights into the typical participant of a group.30. In accordance with the above explanation, the purpose of this research is to know how to analyze the use of grammatical complexity in students' university theses of the English department at IAIN METRO and to investigate the most dominant types of grammatical complexity clause in the university thesis of students of the English department . in IAIN METRO.

Data Resources

The secondary source in this research is interviews, documentation, journals, e-books and articles related to the research.

Data Collecting Technique

All data will be used to increase their completeness. Based on primary sources, secondary sources provide explanation or examination. Furthermore, data are needed to support the various points made in the research findings. 32. Qualitatively, the researcher also has a toolbox of data collection techniques, including in-depth interviewing, participant observation, and document analysis.33 The researcher in this research uses document to collect data.

The researcher takes documents from the result Grammatical Intricacy on Students'Undergraduate Thesis ofEnglish Department at IAIN Metro. In the process of collecting the data, the researcher collects the results Grammatical Intricacy on Students' Undergraduate Thesis of English Department at IAIN Metro and to analyze the most dominant types of clauses of Grammatical Intricacy on Students' Undergraduate Thesis of English Department at IAIN Metro. Observation is the method of collecting open, first-hand observations at a study site through witnessing individuals and places34 As a form of data collection, observation has both advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages include the ability to record information as it occurs in a setting, to study actual behavior, and to study individuals. 32Yogesh Kumar Singh, Fundamental of Research Methodology and statistics (New Delhi: . New Age International Publisher. Later in this study, the researcher will observe 15 undergraduate thesis documents from students in the English study program, which will be observed in the phenomenon of grammatical entanglement.

To better understand the phenomena under investigation, the researcher can use written documents or other objects. Personal journals and diaries, correspondence and personal records are examples of private papers.35 As a result, the secondary data requested is recorded as a source of data through documentation.

Data Analysis Technique

Data analysis according to the Miles and Huberman model performs the following steps:37 1) Data collection is the step in which the researcher collects all the data that . used to complete the investigation. Hence, it is concluded that the analysis of data has some functions in analyzing research data including; to make the meaningful raw data, to test zero hypoUndergraduate Thesis, to get the significant results, to describe inferences or make generalizations, and to calculate parameters.

Research Approach

The writer will learn how to use an academic library to find journal articles and books, how to use computerized databases, how to select and compare the quality of study on your subject, and how to summarize it on too sum If the research question is large, the author must narrow it down so that he or she can study it. Identifying and selecting individuals for a sample, obtaining their consent to study them, and gathering evidence by asking people questions or analyzing their habits are all examples of data collection.

The writer must understand the details provided by the participants in the analysis during or immediately after the data collection. After writing, the writer would write a paper and send it to selected individuals (such as fellow professors, supervisors, parents, and students) who would benefit from it.

Description of the ResearchResults

It was analyzed that in the third data (RDS), the researcher found 21 uses of grammatical complexity, in chapters I and II. It was analyzed that in the fifth data (SZM), the researcher found 31 uses of grammatical complexity, in chapters I and II. It was analyzed that in the first data (ISH), the researcher found 6 uses of the paratactic clause (37%), which is indicated by the conjunction and, but, so that.

It was analyzed that in the second data (NKH), the researcher found 4 uses of the paratactic clause (21%), which is indicated by the conjunction but, so that, so. It was analyzed that in the third data (OM), the researcher found 3 uses of paratactic clause (21%), which is indicated by the conjunction but, so that, so. In addition, the researcher found 1 use of the embedded clause (7%), which is indicated by the conjunction Who.

It was analyzed that in the fourth data (RDS), the researcher found 5 uses of paratactic clause (24%), which is indicated by the conjunction and, but. It was analyzed that in the fifth data the researcher (SZM) found 13 uses of paratactic clause (41%), which is indicated by the conjunction but, so, so, and, or. It was analyzed that in the sixth data (EL) the researcher found 2 uses of paratactic clause (17%), which is indicated by the conjunction but yet.

It was analyzed that in the seventh data (AA), the researcher found 10 uses of the paratactic clause (46%), which is indicated by the conjunction and, but, or, so that. It was analyzed that in the eighth data (LS) the researcher found 4 uses of the paratactic clause (22%), marked by the conjunction and, but, or. It was analyzed that in the ninth data (MA) the researcher found 4 uses of the paratactic clause (40%), which is marked with the conjunction and,or,so.

It was analyzed that in the tenth data (MO) the researcher found 8 uses of paratactic clause (53%), which is indicated by the conjunction and, but,so,so that. In addition, the researcher found 1 use of embedded clause (7%), which is indicated by the conjunction dat.

Discussion

From the interpretation of the table above, it can be seen that the most dominant type of grammatical complexity is the hypotactic sentence. As a result of the study, the researcher found that there are 85 uses of hypotactic clauses (47%). Based on the information in the diagram above, it can be concluded that the use of grammatical complexity in students' undergraduate assignments was dominated by the use of appropriate grammatical complexity.

According to Halliday, the type of grammatical entanglement consists of a paratactic clause, a hypotactic clause and an embedded clause.40 Based on the results of the research that the researcher obtained through the observation process of 10 students' bachelor's thesis, the researcher obtained data that the use of grammatical entanglement types consisted of 59 uses of paratactic clauses (33%), 85 uses of hypotactic clauses (47%), and 35 uses of embedded clauses (20%). Based on the information shown in the diagram above, it can be concluded that the most dominant type of grammatical entanglement is hypotactic clause because there are 85 uses of hypotactic clause (47%).

Undergraduate Thesis of English Department at IAIN Metro

Conclusion

The first research result is about the use of grammatical intricacies on students' bachelor's thesis in the English department at IAIN Metro. It is examined that the use of grammatical intricacies on student's. Bachelor thesis of English Department at IAIN Metro is dominated by appropriate usage because there were 130 appropriate uses of grammatical intricacy (73%). Furthermore, the second research result is about the most dominant type of grammatical intricacy clause on students' bachelor thesis of English department at IAIN Metro. It was investigated that the most dominant type of grammatical entanglement is hypotactic clause because there are 85 uses of hypotactic clause (47%).

Suggestion

It is recommended for English teachers to motivate students to improve the quality of academic writing, especially undergraduate thesis writing, by appropriately applying the concept of grammatical complexity. It is hoped that with the intensive use of grammatical complexity, the quality of student writing will be qualified. It is recommended that other researchers can develop this research by further deepening this research through application or by making use of other research objectives.

Due to the increased number of studies related to grammatical complexity, it is hoped that the academic writing of the students will be better. Dwi Purnomo, Mashlatif "Grammatical Intricacy and Lexical Density in The Text of English Handbook at Privat Islamic Junior High School Level in Medan".
