Based on the Merdeka Belajar curriculum, each school must make quizzes in their learning process to know the students' performance. The purpose of the quiz in learning English is to help the teacher to measure how the students' performance in one material in one subject. Therefore, to overcome the problems, the author suggests to use quiz in the regular schedule to help the teacher to measure how the students' performance in one material.
Quis as a medium to test eight grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Beringin on descriptive text to know students' performance on this material. In this research, the researcher wants to help the teachers to measure the performance of their students in one material and will help the students to know their knowledge of one material. Is there any effect of using QUIZ to increase the performance of students in writing descriptive text in grade eight students at SMP Negeri 2 Beringin?”.
Based on the above identification, the focus of this study is on the effect of the quiz on students' performance in learning English. Practically, this study will provide empirical information on the impact of quizzes on students' proficiency in learning English. Ha: There is a significant effect on students' performance in writing descriptive English learning questions using a quiz.
Ho: There is no significant effect on students' performance in descriptive writing in English learning using quiz.

The other previous study according to Sakkir et al., (2022) hypothesized that quizzes are useful tools to enhance learning and consolidate what has been taught. Quizzes and student participation in the classroom go hand in hand, and quizzes can be beneficial in a variety of ways, including motivating students to participate in class. The result of this study is that quizzes provide good roles that are appropriate for students because feedback occurs independently after students answer each question containing material.
The third previous study based on Bell et al., (2021) stated that by working on a low-stakes quiz in a group, students receive immediate feedback from peers on concepts they do not understand well, allowing them to to fill their knowledge gaps. Working in groups has also been shown to improve relationships between students, promoting a sense of community in the classroom. The fourth previous study is a recent long-term study by Raes et al., (2020) who observed. It was discovered that positive expectations for using quizzes were even higher when students were exposed to technology, both in terms of their initial perceptions and their perceptions after taking a quiz during a lecture.
