This research aimed to find out how the use of Discovery Learning Method could improve students' writing skills in descriptive text. A pre-experimental design was used with a class of Class XI IPA 1 students of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang selected purposively as a sample. . The research results indicated that the use of Discovery Learning Method could improve students' writing skills in descriptive text. This means that there was a significant difference in students' writing skill in descriptive text before and after they were taught using Discovery Learning Method in eleventh grade students in SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang.

The statistical calculation showed that the Discovery Learning Method was likely to be effective in improving the students' writing skills in descriptive texts. The researcher expresses her utmost gratitude to the almighty Allah SWT, who has given her guidance, blessing and mercy in completing this thesis. His greatest thanks go to Musdalifah and Sucitra who always gave valuable suggestions and advice to complete this thesis.

Therefore, the researcher conducted pre-experimental research under the title "The Use of Discovery Learning Method in Writing Descriptive Text at Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang". Discovery Learning Method improves the students' writing of descriptive text at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang. Is there any significant difference in the students' writing of descriptive text by using Discovery Learning Method at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang.

To find out if there is any significant difference in descriptive text writing of eleventh grade students SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang. For the teacher, the result of this study directly aims to provide more understanding of the use of discovery learning in descriptive text writing. The purpose of this research focuses on the use of discovery learning method in improving students' writing skills focused on descriptive text in the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang in the academic year 2017/2018.

To write descriptive text, this study will focus on content (unity) and organization (cohesion and coherence).

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of discovery learning strategies in teaching grammar rules in the development and skills beyond the knowledge of students in the first year of secondary education. The result of this study is that the Discovery learning strategy has succeeded in teaching grammar rules in the development of skills beyond the knowledge of first year secondary school students, which is reflected in the level of the students in the test scores. Thesis entitled The Effectiveness of Using Discovery Learning Method in Teaching Writing Skill Viewed from the Students’ Creativity by Prawerti, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta.

The result of the test showed that the students were successful in writing descriptive texts using discovery learning. The similarities are both her research and the researcher's concern to improve students' writing skills in descriptive texts by using discovery learning. Discovery learning does not emphasize the result, but the learning process of students, in this case especially the writing of descriptive text.

Discovery learning is a method that encourages students to come to a conclusion based on their own activities and observations. The discovery learning model is a model for improving the way students actively learn by discovering and exploring themselves, so that the result they get is permanent and memorable in their minds, and memorable for students. Here, the writer uses discovery learning to reduce students' worries about the grammar rule.

Students' discovery learning skills are easier to transfer to a new activity and apply to a new learning situation. The second attribute of discovery learning is that it encourages students to learn at their own pace. The third main attribute of discovery learning is that it is based on the principle of using existing knowledge as a basis for building new knowledge.

An essential part of discovery learning is the opportunity for feedback in the learning process. Student learning is enhanced, deepened and made more permanent by discussing the topic with other students. Here, discovery learning is important for students' confidence in their writing so that students don't have to start it because of less grammar. There is no significant improvement in students' descriptive text writing after being taught using the discovery learning method.

In the post test, the researcher gave writing test to the students to find out the performance of the students in writing descriptive text based on the method after treatment was given, the students were asked to write descriptive text about their idol. Pre-test to find out the students' prior knowledge while post-test to find out the students' performance in writing descriptive text based on the method that has. The results of the data findings showed that teaching writing in descriptive text through Discovery Learning Method can improve students' writing skills in eleventh grade in SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang.

The improvement of students' writing of descriptive text in content The use of Discovery learning method which is effective in improving the students' writing skill in descriptive text focused on content. This can be seen from the table below in which it describes the students' score of content. The data on the table above shows that there is an increase in students' score from pre-test to post-test.

Analysis of t-test is used to find out the significant difference between the students' result of pre-test and post-test. The result of the data analysis through the writing test shows that the students' writing of descriptive text in relation to the unit of the text has increased. Students' increase in writing descriptive text in organization The increase in students' writing descriptive text that focused on organization (coherence and coherence) has increased significantly.

The result of the data analysis via the writing test shows that the writing skills of the students in descriptive texts in term organization (cohesion and coherence) have increased. The Discovery Learning Method was interesting and helpful for the students studying English as a foreign language as it can improve the writing skills of the students. Especially for teachers of English, the Discovery Learning Method can be used to improve students' writing skills in descriptive texts.

The discovery learning method is one of the methods that can be considered in teaching to help students' writing skills in the classroom. The effectiveness of using the discovery learning method in teaching writing skills, as seen by students' creativity.

The table indicates that there is an increase of students in writing skill descriptive text in term organization from pre-test to post-test. The organization score has increased (35.4%) from the average of 5 in the pre-test and becomes 6.77 in the post-test. In the pre-test, the average score is 5.15, but after the implementation of the Discovery Learning Method, it becomes 6.75.

It can be concluded that there is significant difference between the results of the student's writing skills before and after using Discovery Learning Method. This also means that null hypothesis (Ho): The use of Discovery Learning Method is not effective in improving the students'.

Table  above  indicates  that  the  maen  score  of  the  content  in  term unity has  increased  from  pre-test  to  post-test,  where  the  score  of  the content has increased 29.37 % from the mean score 5.31 becomes 6.87 in post  test

It is lower than the average score of students in the post-test, which was 6.77. In the pretest, there were 6 (25%) of the students classified in a very poor score, of them classified in a weak score, of them classified in a fair result, of them classified in a good result, none of them classified in a very good result good and excellent. . While in the post-test there were those classified as poor, those classified as good, and those classified as very good, none of them were classified as very poor, fair and excellent.

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that the students of the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang in the academic year have good writing skills after being taught through the Discovery Learning Method, especially in writing descriptive text. In the first part, some conclusions are presented based on the data analysis and findings from the previous chapter. The writing skills of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang increased in content (unit) after using the Discovery Learning Method.

The students' writing skill in term organization (cohesion and coherence) among the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang increased after they used Discovery learning method. Discovery Learning Method can improve writing skill in the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pinrang. This is proven by analyzing the significant difference from pre-test to post-test by the t-test and t-table value, the result of the t-test is higher than t-table (7.31 > 2.069).

After reviewing the research results, the researcher would like to make the following suggestions. For the next researcher, using the Discovery learning method to explore other writing variables.
