Using Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method to Improve Students' Speaking Ability (An Experimental Study on Second Class in SMP Negeri 4 Biringbulu, Gowa) Ernawati Said. Judul Skripsi: Using Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method to Improve Students' Speaking Ability (An Experimental Study on Second Grade in SMP Negeri 4 Biringbulu). There were two variables in this research, namely independent variable (Using Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method) and dependent variable (improving students' speaking ability), it aimed to find out the result of students'.

It can be seen in a problem such as "Is the use of time method beyond centers and circles effective to improve students' speaking ability". This was used to measure the students' speaking ability before and after using the centers-across-and-circles-time method. The result of this research finally showed that the average score of the students in the post-test was higher than their average score in the pre-test in every aspect/element of speaking, especially in their self-confidence.

It was found that there was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test results of the students, with their performance being higher after using the Beyond Centers and Circles Time method than before using the method. It implies that the Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method is effective in improving students' speaking skills. Pd., the rector of Makassar Muhammadiyah University for his advice during the researcher studies at the university.

INTRODUCTION

  • Problem Statements
  • The Objective of the Study
  • The Significance of the Study
  • The Scope of the Study

After doing PPL and P2K, the researcher finds that there are many problems that the students face in learning English as a foreign language, especially in speaking activities. Through the use of BCCT Method in learning process, it is hoped that the performance of each student in the speaking class can be maximized, because the performance at each level will affect the improvement of the students in the next level (Samad and Friends, 2004: 52) . Based on the background above, the researcher expects that by using Beyond Center and Circle Time (BCCT) Method, the students will be helped to face all their problems in English language learning and get significant improvement in their speaking skills.

The students find it difficult in learning the English language, so the teacher needs to find a good teaching method to help and encourage the students. The aim of the study is to find out whether or not using the Beyond Centers and Circles Time (BCCT) method can improve the speaking skills of students in the second grade of SMP 4 Biringbulu. And through this research, it hopes that the teacher can optimize his function as facilitator, motivator and assessor to develop the potential of the students, because this method promotes the learning process.

The scope of this research is limited to the application of Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method to improve the speaking ability of the second grade students in SMPN Biringbulu, Gowa.

  • Beyond Centre and Circle Time Method

Speaking is the oral communication, so the students need a high level of self-confidence, and they have to make more and more mistakes in front of their friends. And the teacher can help the students by telling the students that making mistakes is the most normal thing in the world when we are in the learning process. Students can be classified as fluent if they can speak quickly and with little hesitation (Harmer d.

The pupils have to convince each other that the objects they have chosen are the most useful. Then the students are given roles such as shop detective, social worker and friend of a shoplifter. And let them work in groups with the students who have the same roles.

Then students decide what their opinion is and get together with like-minded students to collaborate. Students have time to prepare and the teacher can even encourage them by giving them ideas about the topic. Students can ask questions after the presentation, then the teacher and students vote on which opinion is the most convincing.

So it may be easier for the students to speak spontaneously if the teacher gives a topic related to the real life of the student. In this activity, the teacher gives the students a current problem, for example about the reorganization of the zoo. The teacher should explain to the students that a local zoo is undergoing a reorganization and the new animals are welcomed into the zoo.

In this speaking activity, the teacher prepares a list of topics known as the interesting topics for all the students in the class. Then the teacher invites the students one by one to take a topic for their own self. Because it is important for the students to be active, they can be better in fluency aspect.

Emadwiastini, et.al said BCCT (Beyond Center and Circle Time) is a student-centered learning method.

RESEARCH METHOD

  • Population and Sample
  • Variables and Indicators
  • Research Instrument
  • Data Collection Procedure
  • Data AnalysisTechnique
  • Hyphotesis

The population of this study consisted of all second grade students of SMPN 4 Biringbulu. This stage took place before teaching, it was intended to know the state of the school, the class and the characteristics of the student. In this phase, the researcher taught the students using the Beyond Center and Circle Time (BCCT) method.

And to know the improvement of students' speaking ability after teaching using Beyond Center and Circle Time Method, this test was given. In each test above, the researcher had assessed students' accuracy and fluency. H0 : The application of Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method could not be used to improve students' speaking ability at SMP Negeri 4 Biringbulu.

H1: The application of Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method can be used to improve the speaking skills of the students at SMP Negeri 4 Biringbulu. From the table above, we saw that there was a significant improvement in the speaking skills of the students at each level, especially in terms of grammar and grammar. The data showed that none of the students got a good score on the pre-test, most of them a bad score.

It was very different with the post-test result that some students got a good score. Measuring the students' vocabulary means that the researcher measures the students' ability to use the vocabulary effectively. The classification from very poor to very good or from grades 1 to 5 with the criteria was proposed by Harmer in Mirdayani based on the analytical scale on which the researcher measured the speaking ability of the students.

And according to the data both in the pre-test and in the post-test, none of the students got the excellent result in this aspect, some of them got only the good and fair result. Obviously, from the result of the data analysis it was ensured that the average score of the students in the post-test was greater than their score in the pre-test. The classification from very poor to excellent or from grade 1 to 5 with the criteria proposed in the previous chapter by Harmer in Mirdayani was the way to determine the students' performance in speaking.

According to the results, it showed that in the pre-test, 18 students got a bad grade, and then after the exam, the number of students decreased to 13. Armawana in Mirdayani said that students should be able to speak confidently. they hear it spoken correctly and fluently in an important way, so they can master the language more quickly without thinking about individual words about their position in a sentence. Measuring students' fluency means that the researcher measured how well the students spoke with confidence (Billows in Mirdayana. Students' fluency was measured using the analytical scale that was proposed in chapter three.

In the pre-test, only one student got the very good score, and there are 5 students who got the very bad score. So in the post test the value increased the result, the students who got the very bad ones become 3, while the total number of students who got the very good ones increased, it became three people. This chapter consists of two sections, the first section deals with the conclusion of the research findings and the second deals with suggestions.

Based on the finding and discussion in the previous chapter in this study, the researcher concluded that the Use of Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method was effective in improving the second grade students' speaking ability of SMP Negeri 4 Biringbulu, Gowa. Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method can be used at every level of students because it provides a good enjoyable activities for the students. To teach English specially, the students like the enjoyable method, and the Beyond Centers and Circles Time Method provided a good enjoyable learning activities so that it was suitable to be applied for all the characteristics and condition of the students.
