The purpose of this research was to determine the students' written narrative ability before and after using the story circle and whether the story circle is effective in improving the students' written narrative ability in the eight grades of SMP N 1 Sungguminas in the academic year. 2016/2017. Categorization of students' written narrative before using the story circle was fair, poor and very poor classification. The percentage level and frequency of students' post-test written narrative scores were categorized as good and fair classification.

Thus, the researcher found that the students' written narrative ability improved after using the story circle from very poor to good classification. The story circle was effective in improving the students' written narrative, which was proven by the result that the average score of the students after the test was higher than the average score of the pre-test. Alhamdulillah, the writer expresses his deepest gratitude to Allah Subhana Wata'ali for his blessings and mercy on the writer during the process to finish writing this thesis.

In writing this thesis, the writer found many difficulties, so the writer realized that the thesis has a lot of flaws and weaknesses. Finally, the writer would like to say thanks and understanding to everyone who has had help to finish this thesis.

To solve the above problems, the writer used story circle in teaching narrative text writing in SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminas. Therefore, the researcher was interested in writing a research topic titled: “Effectiveness of story circle to improve students' writing ability in eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Sungguminas”. What is the narrative writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminas in the academic year before using story circle.

How the writing narrative ability of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa in academic year before the application of the story circle. How the story writing ability of the eight degree students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa in academic year after application of the story circle. Whether or not the story circle is effective in improving the students' writing ability in the eight degree students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa in the academic year 2016/2017.

The author hopes that using story circle can help the students to improve writing ability easily. The researcher focused here on the effectiveness of using story circle to improve the students' narrative ability.

In addition, Yarber states that narrative writing is the presentation of a series of events in the order in which they occurred. In a narrative, the incidents that make up the story are told in the order in which they would actually happen. The story can be real as in writing history, autobiography, journal and news report.

In which the writer tells the audience about who the character in the story is, where the story takes place, and when the action takes place. A plot that contains the events of a story that keeps the reader guessing as to what will happen in the story. A story circle is a very effective and practical way to help students organize the content of a story into a coherent whole.

Teachers become more involved in thinking about the structure of the story they are going to teach and how each part of the story relates to the others. The researcher used the story circle method as a treatment to improve students' ability to write a narrative text. H0 (null hypothesis): The story circle method is not effective in improving students' writing ability for narrative text after using the story circle method as a treatment.

H1 (Alternative hypothesis): The story circle is effective in improving the writing ability of the students to write narrative text after applying the Story Circle method as a treatment.

This was supported by the frequency of scores and percentage of grade in students' scores before and after using the Story Circle. Based on the data, the percentage rate and frequency of students' results before applying Story Circle showed that none of the total number. According to the previous page, a significant difference was found in the students' writing ability before and after using the story circle.

The percentage level and frequency of students' post-test written narrative scores were categorized as good and fair. Based on the t-test result, the researcher found that there is a significant difference between the students' writing ability score before and after using the story circle. Categorization of students before applying for story circle was fair, poor and very poor.

The results of the research deal with the students' pre-test and post-test scores, the frequency and percentage of the students' scores, the average scores and the students' improvement of the pre-test and post-test, as well as hypothesis testing. From the result, it can be concluded that the students' writing skills on pretest were low because 20 (80%) students from 25 total number of the students got very poor score. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the rate percentage in the post-test was higher than the rate percentage in the pre-test.

Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the rate percentage in the post-test was higher than the percentage in pre-test. Few of the students got good score in writing narrative test, after the researcher gave treatment by using story circle and improved the score of the students. The data showed that the use of story circle in the teaching of writing narrative can improve the students' writing narrative ability.

This meant that there was a significant difference between students' narrative writing ability before and after the researcher used story circle in teaching narrative writing to eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminas Kab. It showed that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted.

Based on the data, percentage percentage and score frequency of students after applying story circle, 5 (20%) out of 25 students got good score, 20 (80%) students got fair score. The mean score of students' writing ability before story circle application was 42.6 and the mean score of students' writing ability after story circle application was 72.36. It shows that the mean score of students' writing ability after the application of story circle is higher than the mean score of students' writing ability before the application of story circle.

The story circle was effective in improving students' narrative writing, it was proved by the result of students' average post-test score was higher than the average pre-test score. The effectiveness of the story circle to improve students' writing ability in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Sungguminasa students was proven by the score result of the average post-test score of the students was higher than the average pre-test score . The effectiveness of story circle to improve students' writing ability because it is interesting and efficient to improve students' narrative writing ability.

Improving students' reading comprehension using the Know-Want-to-Learn (K-W-L) strategy of second-year students. From the result, it can be concluded that the achievement of students' writing skills in the pre-test was low, as 12 (48%) students out of 25 total students scored very poorly. Based on the data, the grade percentage and scoring frequency of the students before applying to Story Circle showed that none of the total number of students got an excellent grade, a very good grade, a good grade, and a fairly good grade.

The percentage and score frequency of the students in the pre-test, the writing ability of the students through the story circle was achieved by none of the students: excellent, very good, good and fair. The percentage and scoring frequency of the students in the post-test, the students' written storytelling ability through the story circle were categorized as very good, good, fairly good, fair, and poor. The researcher thus concluded that the writing ability of the students improves after applying the story circle from very poor to very good classification.

It was proved by the fact that the result of the average score of the students' post-test was higher than the average score of the pre-test.

If the next researcher wants to improve the writing skills of the students, he should come up with another method, strategy or technique that can be applied in the classroom to make the students more active and interesting in learning English. Based on the above data, the researcher concluded that using the story circle in writing writing lessons could improve the writing skills of the students, because before the implementation of this approach, the writing skills of the students were still low, but after the implementation of this approach, the writing skills of the students could increase the writing skills of the students. skill.
