Much of Rob's hard work as an FFA member in Elsberry, Missouri has been in the marketing of his seeds. “I became interested in ornamental seed while working for Forrest Keeling Nursery in Elsberry, where I assisted in their seedling propagation and breeding department.” says Rob. "I collected seeds for my supervisor at the nursery and from this experience I learned the names and how to identify the different ones. I received orders worth $1,120 from my first mailing. For these first sales I bought some cleaning equipment and also purchased.. my first selected plants for establishing an improved seed orchard.. customers encouraged me to consider ornamental seed improvement as very little work has been done in this area.
I started planting my orchard on two acres of rented land. "By expanding my customer list and word of mouth from my first customers, my sales have grown significantly. This year, he plans to use a cold storage facility to break the dormancy phase of some seeds. The service will allow his customers to plant seeds faster with a better germination rate." .His accomplishments earned Rob the 1977 National FFA Proficiency Award .. in Ornamental Horticulture at the Na- .. sponsored by the National FFA Foundation.

The words of the great philosopher could be gleaned from viewing some of the immortal pictures painted by the masters in the exciting field of art.
SONG OF THE LARK—Jules Breton, a world-renowned artist, is close to Millet as the greatest farm painter. 34;Song of the Lark" means the song of joy in the heart of a Christian girl who loves nature and the outdoors. These five great rural works of art showing God's great works and humble farm people are truly "poetry on canvas."

The Union Camp Corporation paid the Effingham County, GA chapter $1.00 per bushel to harvest a large crop of pine cones from the corporation's trees. They can see what happens to the physical characteristics of the fabric and individual fibers, and they can see where the treatment chemicals have settled.
Together they help the scientist eliminate an element of "guesswork" or "guesswork" about the results of his research. The physical properties of the fibers and the location and distribution of the finishing chemicals in relation to the structural elements of the fabrics are important to both the effectiveness and durability of the finish. When superimposed on the micrograph of the cross section, the "map" shows exactly where the element is located and how evenly or unevenly it is distributed throughout the section: the scientist can immediately determine the results of his efforts.

With them, scientists can look at cotton fibers, even in them, and actually see the results of their research. SEM provides a means to directly study samples to observe surface changes resulting from the various chemical finishing agents applied to the fabric. Secondary electrons emitted from the bombarded specimen are collected to form the SEM image in a form that is easily perceived by the naked eye.
Unlike other forms of microscopy, SEM provides an image with exceptional resolution and depth of field so that the specimen can be studied in detail. At low magnifications (up to about 1000X) SEM micrographs can show chemical deposits that can block or close the weave of a fabric to make it rough or stiff or less able to "breathe". When EDX analysis is used to identify, in a specimen under examination, a specific element (eg phosphorus in a flame-resistant cotton fabric) with anX-rays.
We'll get you in great shape, train you in a valuable job skill, and trim you down for a piece of pride. But where added weight and bulk aren't critical factors, a bag with synthetic fill is the best buy. Some people feel that the last meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, to discuss the feasibility of a post-secondary student organization was much like the first meeting in Kansas City in 1928 to form FFA.
Also in attendance were 17 students from several already organized state groups of post-secondary students. This was the third national seminar for educators interested in postsecondary education in agriculture. Although virtually all bags are rated based on the total weight of the filler, the size and shape of the bag will determine how.

Much better insulation is achieved by enclosing the filler in triangular, square or round tubes and then overlapping or possibly laminating the tubes to prevent continuous seams that allow heat loss. Some bags have other features, such as tapes or tabs on the inside, for securing washable or disposable liners; The steering committee, strengthened by the addition of a number of students, will draw up basic plans for a constitutional convention to be held in twelve months.

THE GREAT
OUTDOORS
The experience is persistent, lasting and has a major influence on my life and the future. In the years since I have been active as an FFA member, I have come to realize what, for me at least, is the essence of 'Future Farming'. That essence is found in a variety of experiences; the development and practice of useful skills, positive relationships with people and perhaps most importantly, a clear and sharpened awareness of who I am as a person. It is a matter of self-awareness, of recognizing both weaknesses and strengths, of knowing our limits and of having a clear view and a balanced perspective on our possibilities.
The early experiences of the 'future farming' can become the fundamental building blocks for successful and effective maturity. He was a local director of vocational education, a teacher trainer, research director of state vocational education, and assistant state director of Career and Vocational Education in Oregon before moving to Maryland in September 1975 to become state director of Career-Technical Education. I was proud to wear it then and perhaps even prouder now, as it is a constant reminder of the essence and spirit of the FFA.
