There have been cities in Indonesia but I will tell you about the city where I come from that is the city of Makassar, there is one place that you must visit when you go to Makassar which is a historical tourist spot founded in 1545 by the 9th King of Gowa named Daeng Ma tanre Karaeng Tumapa'risi' Kallonna and still stands strong today, Fort Rotterdam which is located on the west coast of Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
Fort Rotterdam, which is known by another name Ujung Pandang Fort or Panynyua Fort because it is shaped like a turtle that is about to crawl down into the ocean. There have been many histories ranging from the glory of the Kingdom of Gowa in the 16th century to the Dutch colonialization period.
The history began when the Kingdom of Gowa-Tallo finally signed the Bungayya agreement, one of the articles of that agreement obliged the Kingdom of Gowa to hand over this fort to the Dutch, then this fort was used by the Dutch as a spice storage center in eastern Indonesia.
Fort Rotterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Makassar, visitors both foreign and domestic come here to explore or learn about the historical products that are there, enjoy the spectacular view from the waterfront, and feel the historical atmosphere that is still felt in the vicinity. Then there have been made 3 buildings are now converted into a museum, named La Galigo Museum. This museum has a collection of 4999 pieces. Collections in this museum such as collections of prehistoric objects, numismatics, foreign ceramics, history, and manuscripts.
There are also ethnographic collections, namely various types of objects resulting from technology, art, living equipment, and other objects made and used by the 4 indigenous tribes of South Sulawesi which are Bugis, Makassar, Mandar, and Toraja. The museum also has objects from local kingdoms and historical objects such as weapons used during the independence revolution. And then, There have been used as a venue for various cultural events, including
concerts, art exhibitions, and cultural performances. The venue is alive with color and activity that reflects Makassar's diverse life and culture.
