2014 Retreat: May 16-17 at Sheraton City Centre in Indianapolis, IN.

Planning Ahead:

2014 Under the Scholar’s Tree:

September 26, 2014 on the IUPUI Campus as well as by videobridge on each IU campus. The title is “Lecturing is Dead: Long Live the Lecture.” Please mark your calenders, registration will open in July 2014.

2014 FALCON: November 6-8, 2014 at the Sheraton Indianapolis City Centre. Details will be forthcoming.

2015 Retreat: May 15-16, 2014 at Potawatomi Inn in Angola State Park.

Plan on staying Sunday to enjoy the park.

IU Kokomo’s Claude Rich Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Scott Jones (2012) in the fall of 2013.

The IU South Bend Teaching Award was presented to Rebecca Brittenham (2006). Several FACET members have been awarded grants from the New Frontiers in the arts and humanitites program: Jean Robertson (2001, IUPUI), Erich Stem (2009, IUS), Alyssa Clapp-Intyre (2004, IUE), and Melissa Dinverno (2006, IUB).

Three FACET members from IPFW were recognized this year: Stella Batagiannis (2011- Friends of the University Outstanding Teacher Award), Kent Kauffman (2014 - DECCO Award for Innovative Online Teaching), and Elliott Blumenthal (1993 - Student’s Choice Award for Teaching Excellence).

Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick (2014) was the recipient of the Inspirational Woman award at IUPUI. This award recognizes a nominee whise dedication, service, and generosity is beyond the call of duty and whose work and life story inspires others.

IUPUI has awarded the following people Trustees’ Teaching Awards in 2014: Keith Anliker (2007), Silvia Bigatti (2006), Barbara Christe (2005), Jennifer Conner-Zachocki (2014), Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick (2014), Laura Romito (2014), Stuart Schrader (2005), Jake Streepey (2012), and Jennifer Thorington- Springer (2010).

FACET is very fortunate to have so many active and well recognized members. If you aren’t listed, please contact us and share the news!

May is a month where we recognize o u t s t a n d i n g achievements.

On Friday, May 15th, we will be inducting 16 new members into FACET. But, it is not just our new members who are being recognized for their excellent work across IU!

Jon Becker (2002) was awarded the 2014 President’s Award for Teaching.

This IU wide award was established in 1974 to recognize outstanding teaching, research or service.

Chuck Gallmeier (1999) was appointed, beginning January, 2014, the Chancellor’s Professor, a special academic title conferred on senior faculty members who demonstrate

“highly meritorious performance in all areas of faculty work: teaching, research or creative activity, and service.”

Sue Sciame-Giesecke (1991) has been appointed Chancellor at IU Kokomo, beginning April 15th. For many years, Sue was the driving force behind the FACET Leadership Institute.

Elaine Haub (2002) was awarded the IUS Distinguished Teaching Award;

this is her second time winning this award. Elaine also began serving as Dean of Natural Sciences.

The 2014 recipient of the Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Teaching Award at IUPUC is Katherine Wills (2010).

Correction: In our last newsletter, we congratulated our newest FACET members but left one off our list. Please congratulate Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick (IUPUC) who will be inducted at the retreat on Friday, May 16th.
