NOTES ON CONTRIBUTORS
Ross Harvey is Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Simmons College, Boston. Weech is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois. This is encouraging and shows that training and development is an essential part of professional development in the library and information sector.
INTRODUCTION
CILIP is the body representing library and information professionals in the UK and offers a professional qualification in the form of a card. According to Griffin, CILIP and Aslib are the main providers of training for information professionals in the UK (Griffin 2008). At the end of the day, most staff were comfortable using the IWBs in their own teaching. However, EndNote is not a web-based resource, but is stored on the hard drive of the user's computer. TRAINING FOR PEDAGOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
Appropriate methods of teaching and learning in the field and at the academic training level. This formative element requires an understanding of the review process, but it is often ignored or misunderstood by librarians. It is much better to focus on the application, relevance and applicability of the training.
FACILITATING INFORMATION LITERACY EDUCATION (FILE)
Therefore, information literacy, as a facilitator of social inclusion through personal and social empowerment, assumes the role of functional literacy for the twenty-first century (Andretta 2007b). As a stand-alone CPD course, FILE addresses the information literacy training needs of information professionals. Another example of the information literacy community emerging from FILE is illustrated by the fruitful collaboration between the Learner Support Program (LSP) steering group, representing London Health Libraries, and the FILE co-ordinator (also author of this chapter). PRESERVATION TRAINING
There is widespread documentation for the use of videos and other educational materials, not least that produced by the National 3UHVHUYDWLRQ2I¿FHDPRQJWKRVHOLEUDULHVZKRGRIIHUVRPHVWDIIWUDLQLQJ. The teaching must be based on a holistic policy, where conservation is balanced in relation to the use of the collections (Larsen 1997). A preservation training program can thus be designed in line with the library's preservation policy and has clear objectives, both from the perspective of the library and those to be trained. The general procedures must be considered both from the individual's point of view and from the institution's point of view. MANAGEMENT OF ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
To first principles then and to defining the scope of the electronic resources with which we are dealing. Another scenario to consider is that there may not always be a centralized dedicated electronic resource team, but rather a number of staff spread across different established teams dealing with overlapping components of the puzzle. I hope most of these would be needed across all sectors of the information world.

Developments such as services for users with special needs/social inclusion also require customer service training.
Raising awareness of the importance of customer service and the consequences if things go wrong. The interactive workshop is probably the most popular and common form of customer service training. At the time of writing there are 14 modules covering topics such as management skills, quality, marketing and promotion and customer service.
These are designed to emphasize the importance of customer service and reinforce the necessary people skills. Perhaps the most common form of customer service training is interactive. Other management actions that help encourage a culture of customer service include the development of service cards and statements.
