This study is about a chain story game to improve students' speaking skills at SMAN 4 Palopo. The question was: "Is the use of chain story game that effective in improving students' speaking skills in the eleventh-grade student of SMAN 4 Palopo?".

This study shows that the chain story game has improved the speaking skills of class XI IPA 1 students at SMAN 4 Palopo. The researcher concludes that the use of chain story games effectively improves the speaking skills of class XI IPA 1 students at SMAN 4 Palopo.

Background

Based on the researcher and the student's interviews at SMAN 4 Palopo, the researcher noticed several problems. The last is there are problems with speaking, such as students who are shy to speak in English due to lack of confidence to speak English. A chain story is a story that gathers a group of people in sequence to continue the story until it becomes an interesting and coherent story4.

In the pre-test, students were asked to tell stories about "Golden Snail", while in the post-test students were asked to tell stories about "Malin Kundang". FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Findings

Various aspects are used in the assessment of the students' pre-test, including fluency, accuracy and comprehensibility. It can be seen that no student achieved an excellent, very good and good category (0%). The majority of the 1 students (7%) get the average category, 10 students (66%) get the poor category and 4 students (27%) get a very poor category. 3) Comprehensibility.

Discussion

It was found that there was a significant difference between students' speaking skills before and after using chain story games. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the use of chain story games was effective to improve students' speaking skills in XI IPA 1 at SMAN 4 Palopo. First, the benefits of using chain story games are to increase the student's confidence in speaking.

Felogau (2021), the application of the chain story technique is designed to increase students' speaking skills. Learning to speak using chain story games is a fun and effective way to practice in class. The researcher concludes that the chain story method can increase the efficiency and enjoyment of speaking English.
