CHAPTER V

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

A. Conclusions

The use of comic strips as a method, especially in Englis is very effective to improve students' speaking skill in narrative texts in the eleventh grade of SMA 1 Purwoasri Kediri. The improvement in students' speaking skills can be seen in the average scores of the preliminary study, Test-1 and Test-2 where in the preliminary test the mean is 65.60 and 71.51 in Test-1.

Students who passed Test-1 were 36% (12 students ) and for the preliminary test was 27.27% (9 students). Based on the results of Test-1 in cycle 1, researchers decided to continue to cycle 2, because students did not meet the criteria of success. In cycle 2, students achievement an increase in scores with a mean of 80.61 (28 students). This means that more than 80% of the class population has a score of at least 75 or more. From the results in cycle 2, the researcher decided to stop the study because the students had met the criteria of success. So, by using comic strips students can improve student speaking in narrative texts in the learning process.

B. Suggestion

In this study, the writer would like to offer some suggestions to improve the students’ speaking skill in comic webtoon in order to get a better result.

1. For English teacher

English teachers are expected to be able to utilize a variety of interesting media to build students' interest in learning English, especially in speaking skills. One of the media that can be used is webtoon comics in the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the researcher suggests English teachers to consider using webtoon comics as one of the media in class to teach speaking skills or other genres.

2. For the students

Speaking is a crucial subject that needs to be learned, although many students struggle when their teachers ask them to speak in English.

Therefore, students need to take the teacher's explanations seriously and pay attention during the teaching and learning process. To improve their speaking skills, students should focus and more pratice speaking English.

3. For the next researcher

The writer hopes that future researchers can use this study as a reference for conducting research in the same field. It is highly likely that there will be other research designs that utilize webtoon comics as a media for teaching speaking skill or other genres.
