It is very important to be able to speak English as it is the most widely accepted language in the world so it will be very helpful for those who understand it not only to improve their knowledge and skills but also make it easier for them to function. There are two elements of speaking that must be considered by the speaker, as Harmer pointed out in his book The Practice of English Language Teaching. The first is the Language function, which consists of several sub-elements as follows: Expressive device is the variation of stress and pitch in producing utterances to convey the truth meaning of the messages intended by the speaker.

Like for example in school, applying for a job or when someone goes to another country because English is an international language. The students used the speech achievement when they want to express themselves, but they have problems because they lack the knowledge of language elements for communication. Participants were more likely to repeat words, but no more likely to use fillers such as uh, in the prompt conditions.

Whereas in reactive performance, students' performance in the classroom is in the form of short responses to questions or comments initiated by the teacher or the student. However, the functions are different since transactional dialogue is the exchange of specific information, while in interpersonal dialogue students are kept to deal with social relationships. Monologues can be in the form of short speech, oral presentation or story which can be planned or improvised.

The activity can take the form of acting out scenes from plays or their course book and acting out dialogues they have written themselves. Language intensity has been defined by Bowers (1963, p. 345) as: “the quality of language that indicates the extent to which the speaker's attitude toward a concept deviates from neutrality.” Mulken and Schellen (2006) applied the models of Renkema (1997) and Maat (2004) by analyzing reviews and evaluative columns to gain insight into the usefulness of the models.

The effect of language intensity in the mother tongue has been researched with different types of stimuli. Language and communication are rooted in the material and social worlds of diverse learners (Gee, 2001).

  • Treatment
  • Post-Test

This means that there was a significant difference between the results of the students' pretest and posttest in speaking skills through the use of intensive English language. The score for the students' posttest is higher than the average score for the students' pretest. Data from the students' pretest shows that the students have some errors in pronunciation.
