Dynamic optimization approach for integrated supplier selection and tracking control of single product inventory system with product discount

(Conference Paper) (Open Access)

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a mathematical model in the form of dynamic/multi-stage optimization to solve an integrated supplier selection problem and tracking control problem of single product inventory system with product discount. The product discount will be stated as a piece-wise linear function. We use dynamic programming to solve this proposed optimization to determine the optimal supplier and the optimal product volume that will be purchased from the optimal supplier for each time period so that the inventory level tracks a reference trajectory given by decision maker with minimal total cost. We give a numerical experiment to evaluate the proposed model. From the result, the optimal supplier was determined for each time period and the inventory level follows the given reference well. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

An Optimization of Inventory Demand Forecasting in University Healthcare Centre

Abstract. Healthcare industry becomes an important field for human beings nowadays as it concerns about one’s health. With that, forecasting demand for health services is an important step in managerial decision making for all healthcare organizations. Hence, a case study was conducted in University Health Centre to collect historical demand data of Panadol 650mg for 68 months from January 2009 until August 2014. The aim of the research is to optimize the overall inventory demand through forecasting techniques. Quantitative forecasting or time series forecasting model was used in the case study to forecast future data as a function of past data. Furthermore, the data pattern needs to be identified first before applying the forecasting techniques. Trend is the data pattern and then ten forecasting techniques are applied using Risk Simulator Software. Lastly, the best forecasting techniques will be find out with the least forecasting error. Among the ten forecasting techniques include single moving average, single exponential smoothing, double moving average, double exponential smoothing, regression , Holt-Winter’s additive, Seasonal additive, Holt-Winter’s multiplicative, seasonal multiplicative and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). According to the forecasting accuracy measurement, the best forecasting technique is regression analysis.

1. Introduction

Many companies do not know their demands and have to rely on demand forecasts to make decisions in production planning, sourcing and inventory management both in long and short term (Kerkkanen, 2010). According to Bon and Chong (2009), there are many factors affecting the frequent change of inventory’s demand and those factors are trend, seasonality, and economic factors. Many organizations that utilized inventory optimization reduced inventory levels by up to 25 per cent in one year and enjoyed a discounted cash flow above 50 per cent in less than two years( Study of IDC Manufacturing Insight,2010). In fact, inventory optimization can better address demand volatility and supply variability and thus reducing the risk of both under stocks and overstocks for the organizations to optimize their inventory through demand forecasting.

Healthcare in Malaysia is mainly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Currently, the nation practices a dual healthcare system and has good access to a blend of government and private healthcare services through a network of hospitals and clinics. In this research, a case study of University Health Centre in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) will be conducted. Health services UTHM started back in May 2002, when the Student Health Centre was a part of The Students Affair Office. The University Health Centre provides outpatient services as well as services to emergency cases during office hours.

Abstract. This paper focuses on the use of information technology (IT) in diverse microsimulation studies and presents state-of-the-art solutions in the traditional application field of personal income tax simulation. The aim of the paper is to promote solutions, which can improve the efficiency and quality of microsimulation model implementation, assess their applicability and help to shift attention from microsimulation model implementation and data analysis towards experiment design and model use. First, the authors shortly discuss the relevant characteristics of the microsimulation application field and the managerial decision-making problem. After examination of the salient problems, advanced IT solutions, such as meta-database and service-oriented architecture are presented. The authors show how selected technologies can be applied to support both data- and behavior-driven and even agent-based personal income tax microsimulation model development. Finally, examples are presented and references made to the Hungarian Income Tax Simulator (HITS) models and their results. The paper concludes with a summary of the IT assessment and application-related author remarks dedicated to an Indonesian Income Tax Microsimulation Model.

1. Introduction

Microsimulation is a method that is able to handle the high complexity of the socioeconomic problems by creating and studying a model that makes intensive use of the statistical data of the observed objects, also called micro-units of the socioeconomic system, e.g., person, family or household. The microsimulation models use simulation techniques in order to study the behavior of micro level units. To receive the best possible set of performance indicators of the socioeconomic system, the microsimulation model can be optimized using multi-objective nonlinear optimization algorithms. Microsimulation models can be integrated in e-government environments and provide support for decision making for government administrators.

Microsimulation models have the following main elements: simulation data, simulation model, simulation parameters and simulation results. The initial model data, intermediate and/or final simulation result data, are stored for further analysis. The simulation model consists of algorithms, which describe the behavior of micro-units and represent their environment. Simulating the micro- units’ state and behavior (the changes of state over time) and the change of micro-units as a result of policy changes is often called “aging the data”. Static aging refers to the adjustment by re- weighting the used sample based on some aggregate control variable (e.g., the composition of the sample by gender), while dynamic aging refers to adjusting each micro-unit attribute (e.g., income)

Abstract. New product development in real estate industry is a challenging process since it is related to long term concept and high cost. A newly proposed product development should meet customer need and their preferences which appropriate with customer buying power and company value. This research use data mining for profiling customer transaction and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for product selection in new product development. This research utilizes Weka as data mining open source software to profiling data customers. The analysis correlated product preferences and profiling demography such as city, age, gender and occupation. Demography profiles gives description buying power and product preferences. The products proposed are based on customer profiles and rank of the product by AHP method. The product with the highest score will be proposed as new product development. Case studies of this research are real estate projects in Serang, Makassar, and Balikpapan. Makassar and Balikpapan are the project that already gained success and Serang is new project which new products development will be proposed to launch. Based on profiling and product preference of customer in Balikpapan, Makassar, and prospectus of Serang markets, new products development that will be proposed are house type of 120/200 m2 with price around Rp1.300.000.000 and house type of 71/120 m2 with price around Rp800.000.000. The markets of Serang and Balikpapan have similarities in profiles as urban city so the new products development will adopt the succeed story of Balikpapan project.

To capture the market in new business development the company must know what they know in this digital era.

A long with database development, a treasure is found in data tomb. Data become precious when knowledge is found. The process called Knowledge Data Discovery; it is a nontrivial process of identifying valid, novel, potentially useful and ultimately understandable pattern in data [1].
