This was quite interesting to watch because it really brought out the personality of each of the judges. Justice Breyer was very funny; he made six or seven comments that had the entire audience laughing, including his remark, "Well, I think if you're going to take bong hits, he's the one to do it for." After the first side finished its argument, we were all convinced that the court would rule against them because of all the tough questions the judges had asked, but then after the next side started presenting its case, we quickly realized , that the judges asked as many difficult questions and that it would be impossible to predict the outcome of the case. After the closing of the arguments, we had the privilege of having lunch with Justice Kennedy.

We also got to walk the elliptical staircase that connects the floors of the courthouse - one of only two elliptical staircases in the world. Each step was handcrafted to be a different size and extended a foot and a half into the wall because the staircase had no center of gravity... The rest of the day and evening we spent watching and attending a law school alumni event.

The five of us met him at a house owned by the Supreme Court Historical Society. He asked us for our opinions on various law school issues, such as legal writing, electives, and the school's curriculum. The guide showed us around the library, various conference rooms and the court's private dining room.

After seeing the Supreme Court in action, I feel much more personal about the justice process.
