The Center conducts seminars for trainees of the service, while also conducting internships under the project with a travel allowance and the student's final report. Center staff meets with the student and supervisor to resolve issues or otherwise support the internship. The school's teaching and professional staff also stands behind the interns to provide the guidance and technical assistance needed for the internship. The Center provides host agencies with internship planning assistance, the ability to screen and select suitable students for each internship, payroll administration, and financial support for many internships. The Center seeks to act as a conduit for channeling research, training and technical support from the school to the interns and their host agencies.

The school's executive education program offers executives in federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as executives in private organizations, participation in the study of public and environmental issues and methods. Although Pi Alpha is a fairly new organization, it will soon become a vehicle for the outstanding qualities of public affairs students. The Graduate Student Association is great for students to work with and the administration to further develop the school. GSA serves as both student government and social for SPEA students.
Eleven active seats on four administrative boards and committees enable GSA to bring these views to the attention of the SPEA administration. The social arm of the interaction students with each other as well as with the faculty.
