Veedersburg Ind. Jan. 3, 1908 Professor Chas F. Binns Dear Mr. Binns,
I am rather glad to say that Mr. Laurence Culver, (son to R. D. Culver, president of the Wabash Clay Co of this place) very strongly contemplates attending N. Y. S. S. of C. next year.
He is a fine young man, 22 year old, graduate of the Christian Science preparatory school called
“Principia” in St. Louis. You and I doubtless are not greatly impressed with the Christian Science end of it, but his training has been excellent I think. Furthermore, he has had a good stiff course of training here in the (?) brick plant and can use his hands perhaps better than his head. He is the sort of subject you will like, so please send him a catalogue and don’t forget herein in case you are out this way. I myself am helping there folks unwind the kinks in their stoneware department. My own business has been hanging on and efforts are being made to finance it at my old home. I begin to feel that honest work doesn’t pay (in money) anyhow.
I took up the Covington Ken. People but they wanted me to give references, start at the bottom and gamble on their honor. I asked for a reference concerning their treatment of men, being already familiar with one trick of theirs and they turned clam and shut up at once.
If I can’t get in a good firm I don’t want any starting at the bottom, as my experience has taught me that bottom is all I would get.
Regards to the school and to Mrs. Binns and your family.
Yours truly, Paul E. Cox Box 222
