Mathematics 119/120 (Calculus) and two full courses in physics.,. as specified by the Department of Chemistry, are required as relevant study. The student majoring in Elementary Education must complete the equivalent of 10 full courses within the broad field of General Education including within this total: one full course in Art one full course in Music (385lt two full courses in mathematics and two full courses in Psychology Major requirements include six full courses in the Education major and at least three full courses in related fields.

In addition, the program requires an academic concentration of six full courses earned in a subject area or interdisciplinary program.

ENGLISH

Philosophy: Eight full courses (or equivalent courses) chosen in consultation with members of the Faculty of Philosophy. Russian courses are designed to train students in a language that is the carrier of one of the world's largest literatures and increasingly important scientific information. The department also offers an integrated program for students enrolled in the College of Ceramics and courses that can be taken to fulfill the science requirements of the College of Liberal Arts.

Psychology majors are required to complete one full-time or two half-time courses in each of the five areas described below, and possibly three additional psychology courses (excluding PSY 210).

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Students must take at least 15 full courses but no more than 18 full courses in the School of. The Business School has recognized that many students want to concentrate some of their electives on special areas of specialization. This concentration is delivered on a cooperative basis by the School of Business Administration and the Department of Sociology and Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts.

Full details on these and other areas of concentration can be obtained from the Faculty of Business Administration-Economics, or from the School of Business Administration! office.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND HEALTH CARE

The roots of nursing lie in man's relationship with his environment - physically, biologically and psychosocially. As a means of fulfilling this responsibility, the School of Nursing and Health becomes actively involved in rural areas and helps the student visualize nursing as a means of contributing to the solution of rural health problems. The student must thus prepare for the realities of changes in the social and scientific practice environments and participate in utilizing these changes to improve nursing practice.

All Alfred University library, laboratory and classroom facilities are available to students in the School of Nursing and Health Care.

COLLEGE OF CERAMICS

The structure provides greatly expanded quarters for the College of Ceramics library, which was previously housed in Binns-Merrill Hall. Binns-Merrill Hall houses activities and faculty from both academic departments of the College of Ceramics, as well as certain support facilities. Some of the research led by College staff is housed in Alfred University-owned buildings.

A very important facility of the College is the Scholes Library, a ceramics reference library, located in Charles Harder Hall.

A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION IN CERAMICS

Members of the college's teaching staff work closely and collaborate with undergraduate students, graduate students and with other members of the faculty. The Ceramic College is fortunate to have a close partnership with the Ceramic Association of New York. Through the Ceramic Association of New York, employees are able to receive advice from the leading ceramic industry professionals in New York as well as the active support of their companies.

Research program support from federal and state governments and from industry makes it possible to provide support to selected graduate and undergraduate students in their thesis work.

DIVISION OF ART AND DESIGN

Its aim is to help the talented prepare for a lifestyle in the ceramic arts, a professional career in design or at the university level as an artist-teacher in the ceramic disciplines. The College reserves the right to retain any work produced by a student which is carried out as part of his academic requirements. However, this right is only exercised when it concerns a few works, usually those that are kept for study, later exhibition or for the permanent college assembly.

Items that have been assessed and are not retained by the College become the property of the student.

This is a flexible program that allows a person to take additional courses in one of the basic sciences, mathematics, earth sciences, or ceramic sciences through electives. To obtain both degrees, a student must complete the regular requirements for the Ceramic Science degree and in addition must successfully complete four half-time courses in the Humanities offerings of the College of Liberal Arts. The ceramic industry needs a person or persons who can bring to it a good understanding of the fundamental sciences, a knowledge of their art and a desire to contribute to its progress.

At the same time, these same qualities dictate well-educated graduates to fill responsible positions in the production, sales and research of the glass industry.

While focusing on the dynamics of political development and modernization in the less developed two-thirds of the world, comparative analysis of regional differences will be offered. Prerequisite: POL 210. POL 372 The United Nations System Full Careful study of the collective security, economic, and social functions of the United Nations system will be offered. POL 417 American Civil Liberties Semi-analysis of such current legal and political issues as freedom of speech, religion, poverty, privacy, obscenity, and racial and sexual discrimination, with attention to both established and latent areas of concern. An exploration of the economic and political ties connecting advanced industrial societies and the Third World, questions of who benefits, why imperialism was introduced and perpetuated, and why imperialism is a major political issue in the Third World will be explored. ,.

Full-time students (tuition) The discounts for students during the regular academic year are as follows: For students who withdraw before the first day of classes: 100 percent of the tuition; for a withdrawal during the first seven calendar days of each semester, beginning on the first day of classes, 80 percent; during the second seven calendar days 60 percent; However, an amount equal to the acceptance deposit may be applied to any costs for tuition, room or board. There is no tuition discount for courses discontinued after 28 calendar days of each semester.

Any student who does not register at the designated time in the regular college year will be charged a $15 late registration fee.
