The bromgrass on the left is from a field that received some mixed fertilizer and no nitrogen fertilization. The roots are weak, the grass is short and thin, and will yield less than one ton of fodder per acre, with a protein content of about 6%.

NITROGEN DIVISION

The bromegrass on the right, in addition to receiving the mixed fertilizer, was topdressed with 80 pounds of nitrogen per acre. With proper high-nitrogen fertilization and adequate water, the grass can produce up to 8 tons of 20% protein forage per acre, dry weight.

Max Hafen, have a formal partnership, complete with contract, in the management of 883 acres located on two farms 100 miles apart. Bryan and Kent agreed to take equal shares of the remaining debts and pay each of their shares to their father.

Alfalfa is also grown and much of the hay is trucked to Mesquite to feed dairy cattle. But Monroe did such a good job feeding them that the barrows were chosen grand champion and reserve grand champion of the Kingfisher County Fair and one of them became Berkshire champion at the State Fair.

FUTURE FARMER

Monroe took the money he'd earned from two colts, went to a breeder and bought fillies—the foundation of his current herd. Makes it clear that local chapter members receive "first call" on any mowers or pullets they wish to purchase. He often manages to "drop in" on vocational agriculture courses to help with projects or get help from some of the guys.

It was designed to impress upon the people of the community the importance of safety in preventing accidents in their homes, on farms, and on the highways. When a review was done a few weeks later, it was found that 625 of the identified risks had been removed.

LITTLE RIVER

The Chapter had been active in security work for a number of years, but in the spring of 1956 they voted to leave. Owners were made aware of these unsafe practices and methods of correction were discussed. The Little River Community has not had a single fatal agricultural accident reported in the past year.

However, he was determined to complete his schooling and his electrical work helped him immensely. When the vocational agriculture program was introduced at Rock Gap High School in Virginia in the fall of 1949, Earl eagerly looked forward to the future. time for him to go to high school and enroll in this study.

The FFA Hereford Champion shown by Douglas Hulme is admired by Tennessee Ernie Ford and Larry Earhart, president. Bobby Horak and Larry Plum, Green Hands in Lone Tree, Iowa, are old pigs one day. And, to do this, you use more and more of the results of chemical research.

Dairy farmers have found Marlate to be the easiest, longest lasting and least expensive horn fly control. Simply sprinkle a tablespoon around each cow's back and neck and rub. 34;Marlate" is another example of how Du Pont chemistry helps the American farmer do a better job and do it easier.

BETTER THINGS FOR BETTER LIVING ...THROUGH CHEMISTRY

Instantly, the interlocking spines on two sides of the blade close like a steel trap to form a death cell. In a comparison of the plant and animal world, the plants are by no means second best. And in a test of strength, the leanest elephant could not replicate the amazina feats of the leanest root.

Among their many talents, several members of the plant kingdom can produce a poisonous fluid that is fatal to other living things and for which there is no known antidote. Millions of them live on every square inch of the Earth, in every drop of water and in every particle.

This future farmer used his agricultural mechanics skills to reduce lahor on his dairy farm and earn a national award. It was also during this first year that he converted an old two-car garage into his first farm shop. The two did all the work, except for the times when other FFA Chapter members came to help.

Ralph had full management responsibility in his farm mechanic work, with the exception of the new shed and the bread shed. Sheffield Bale Wire combines the right toughness and strength to eliminate stretching and breakage.

SHEFFIELQ

Your surest way to avoid "broken" bales and missing ties is to use Sheffield Bale Wire in a properly adjusted baler.

It was there when the logging crew began work on the edge of the great cypress swamp. A barn owl hopped to the door of his house high in a hollow cypress and sat twinkling in the bright sunlight as it turned its head toward the strange sounds. The second tree had fallen before the old den dad, wounded, pushed his mask-like face against the door and peered through the treetops.

The storm winds had rocked its cradle with a mighty hand, and the slanting rain had filled the river until it flowed out and whispered to the roots of the great cypress. While celebrating a little apart from the others, he was shocked to discover that the dogs at the base of the tree were barking before he could get there.

An electric hatch with heating tape was another shop project that greatly contributed to the efficiency of the farm. Young Stinson served as chairman of the electrical safety committee in 1956 when the Rocky Gap Chapter won the national farm safety award. The winning educational exhibit at the 1957 Atlantic Rural Exposition prepared by the Rocky Gap FFA Chapter featured Earl's electrical craftsmanship in the wiring of the screen.

In recognition of his extensive electrical safety work, Earl received the Virginia Safety Council's Certificate of Merit award and. The National FFA Foundation Award was a truly valuable recognition of the challenges Earl had faced and conquered.

ARMOUR

Some of the trees had the potential to appear places, but careful examination showed that they would not. Some shed water, others had no door to the sun, while others were inhabited by pesky insects. He was tired by the time he found her, but the night was passing and he had no time to rest. The night was almost gone when the last baby was deposited in the new house.

The walls of this house were strange, and the bed was not like the one in his old house. He was tired enough to sleep every hour for the next day, but without peace there would be no sleep.

PLANT- FOOD

He did not hesitate at the edge, but swam to where a piece of large wood stood. The journey through the tree was not easy, nor was crossing the bottom.

By 1937, his third year in the pro ranks, Sam was among the best. Leaving the game to serve a two-year stint in the United States Navy, Sam came back strong in late 1944 and finished seventh in wins and climbed to fourth in '45. Sam has continued his winning ways in recent years even though he has limited his play to major tournaments.

His best tournament was the Dallas Open in which he shot a 20-under-par 264 and 72 holes—the lowest of the year—to win. In 1956 Sam teamed with Ben Hogan to win the Canada Cup for the United States and last year he teamed with Jimmy Demaret for second place.

GUERNSEY HERD

Championship when he had to settle for second place after losing on the last hole. In 1957 he played only 10 official tournaments, although in terms of money he enjoyed one of his best years since 1950. Four of his best tournaments were majors that helped him was ranked fourth on the list.

Snead has represented the United States in international play, having been named to the Ryder Cup team on five occasions. He won the Vardon Trophy four times and was elected to Golf's Hall of Fame.

Handling bales easily with a pitchfork, simply feed bales into the new 8-foot universal hopper on the bale-sized John Deere elevator.

The elevator sends the bales to the new Bale Barn conveyor suspended from the hay track or barn ridge pole. It's the biggest step forward in farm material handling—better see your John Deere dealer right away.

0> '\Man can't mow, condition, collect, bale and store hay and straw crops by himself, thanks to John Deere's revolutionary new system. The new bale ejection attachment for John Deere 14-T and 214-T string balers throws half bales directly into the latter's high-sided wagon. The low-cost new Barn Bale Conveyor takes bales from the elevator and distributes them throughout the barn at 10-foot intervals.
