A glimmer of excitement shone in the members' eyes as they entered a convention that welcomed them with open arms, ready to help guide them on their path to success. Whether sharing life experiences at peer social gatherings or speaking with an industry professional at the FFA National Agricultural Career Show, students gained a greater perspective on the country and the world. Holocaust survivor, Gerda Klein reminded us of the humanity that binds us together and that.

Thomas-Fay -Custer FFA Chapter Dobbins purchased his first herd when he was twelve years old, an investment that has grown to 813 head of cattle and nearly 3,000 acres of grain and hay. Marilyn Kourilsky, vice president of the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, presented each winner with a plaque and a check for $1,000. Full-page color advertisements showing enormous yellow ribbons were displayed in the local newspaper. The purpose of the yellow ribbons was to show community support for an air base that was scheduled to be closed by the Air Force.

Flechsenhar proved that the lion's mane stops the growth of leaf spores and prevents the recurrence of the weed. This year she was awarded the honor of Agriscience Teacher of the Year at the national FFA.

FFA AGRISCIENCE FAIR CONTINUES TO HONOR INNOVATIVENESS

O. Sargent Awards

The idea spread to other southern states and in 1931 the Young Farmers of America was born, expanding opportunities in agriculture for those members. The H.O.Sargent Award was created to recognize adults and members who strive to increase diversity in agricultural education and FFA. The 1998 recipients were (left to right) W.G. Parker, Amy Mathews (accepting Theresa Watson) and Gary Moore. The adult winners, listed above, were selected by individuals who have been involved in agricultural education and have implemented innovative programs for it.

Teams from across the United States competed for top honors in event areas from forestry to agricultural engineering. The participants evaluated, identified, analyzed, tasted, sniffed, repaired and calculated – all in the hope of taking top honors. The results of each event were announced at the end of the week during a breakfast or lunch organized by the sponsor.

FARM BOYS AND A DREAM

FFA members, realize that when you leave this auditorium, this city, for the last time today, that you are living a dream.. that when you leave . this auditorium, this.. city, for the last time today that you are living a dream. Robert Kennedy, the young United States Attorney General in the 1960s, put it well when he said: .. 34;Some menses as they are and ask why, I dream of things that never were and ask why not?".

GO LIGHT YOUR WORLD

If you can imagine a cocoon scratched by the malilimb, then you can relate to the feeling of the "unknown". The scariest and most rewarding step you can take in life is walking away from faith.

100% FFA MEMBERSHIP

During this historic year, FFA saluted 71 years of generous support of the national FFA convention through the City of Kansas. FFA recognizes the exemplary service of six organizations and three individuals who were instrumental to many in the success of the convention. For their efforts, each individual and organization received the National FFA Organization's Blue and Gold Award, the highest honor FFA can bestow.

FFA showed its gratitude by recognizing this special group on stage Thursday afternoon, presenting each with posters. Many of the recipients were longtime Kansas City supporters, (above photo image #1) FrontRow:Larry Lackamp;JamesTaylor;DickSneddenjohnE.Shirley;Jerry Monterastelli.BackRow:RichardLinhardt;Wayne Beck;Dr.JamesRKey; Allan R. DELAWARE

An important piece of the puzzle is encouraging alumni and countries with successful programs to continue their progress and inspire others. Friday the 13th turned out to be lucky for 13 states that received the Blue Jacket award, which is given to states that have increased their list by at least the minimum. Special recognition was given to individuals whose tireless efforts exemplify FFA Alumni's commitment to youth and agricultural education.

Shiflet of Turner Ashby Va., and Jim Spath of the University of Nebraska FFA AlumniAffiliate. Members voted to raise the annual dues from $7 to $10, and gave more authority to the alumni council executive committee to appoint replacements to the council. The integral part of any organization is its executive council, and alumni delegates had the opportunity to elect their leaders for the coming year.

2,350, a Gibson guitar signed by Reba McEntire that sold for $500 and items from the National FFA. The prize of the evening was a brand new Chevy Silverado pickup picked up by Jana Register of Register Farms in Florida for $27,500. While all elements of the FFA alumni work together toward continued success, new President Anderson admits there will always be more pieces to fit, something he looks forward to, “As long as there are.”

1998 marked the 32nd consecutive year of record fundraising by the National FFA Foundation to support annual FFA and agricultural education projects and programs — an all-time record of $7.2 million. In addition to the annual funds raised for FFA, Fischer also announced that $5.2 million has been pledged to the "1 Believe in the Future" capital campaign to relocate the FFA Center to Indianapolis, Ind. The challenge was now placed on the 1999 FFA Foundation Board of Sponsors Chairman-Elect William T.

Many of this year's award recipients have been of special service as hosts for various national FFA. FFA members got a first-hand look at the latest in tractor and equipment promotion, produced by companies such as John Deere and Case. Many FFA members walked away from the career show with arms full of "freebies" such as pens, bumper stickers.

  • Expand and improve the National FFA Homepage and recruitment videos, as well as create posters highlighting technology in FFA

This group of 468 dedicated members began their work two days before the opening session of the conventions. They met for hours in committee meetings Monday and Tuesday to draft proposals for consideration by the National FFA Board of Directors. In the field of communication technology, delegates proposed the creation of a full-time internship to maintain the National FFA Website.

The Agricultural Education Trends Committee also suggested that the FFA National Homepage develop links to sponsor websites, with the possibility of virtual company tours. The Chapter Activities Committee sought to expand the scope of FFA talent by suggesting the creation of an FFA member exhibit at the national FFA convention. The delegation debated a proposed amendment to the national constitution allowing sixth graders to join FFA.

As the gavel tapped to conclude the final business session on Saturday, delegates left the meeting knowing they had made a difference in the future of FFA. Develop one focused on administration, demonstrating academic and life training skills, and another focused on students demonstrating fun and rewarding opportunities. Thanks to the FFA. It was a great way to introduce members to computers and Internet technology, and best of all, there were no shipping costs required.
