and tail quills, black, strongly glossed with indigo above, their under surfaces slate- gray; wing-coverts violet,edged withparrot green.Two
white patches on therump,
one on each side; these, in life, are brought close together so as toform
an apparently continuous whiteband
acrossthe rump.Under
surfaceall white, exceptthe flight-feathers, thisextend- ingtothehindneck
andear-coverts. Irisbrown. Bill,brownishblack.Feet, dark brown; claws, black.
Adult female.

Similar to the male, bvit smaller, with colormuch
duller, thewhiteof ear-coverts
and
hind neckmuch mixed
