One definition of customer-centric project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet or exceed customer expectations. According to PMI, project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements.

Project Defined

In energy policy, the scope of work included all activities related to reducing the use of fossil fuels and reliance on imported energy. Project Management Institute, Inc., A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide), 4th ed.

Project Context

The PMO varies in structure and responsibility depending on the project management approach of the parent organization. Operations managers are focused on while project managers are focused on the objectives of the project.

Key Skills of the Project Manager

Traditionally, the project manager is trained in skills such as developing and managing project scope, estimating, planning, decision making and team building. Although the skill level required by the project manager largely depends on the project profile, the social skills of the project manager are becoming increasingly important.

Introduction to the Project Management Knowledge Areas

One of the most common trends in projects is the increasing expansion of the project scope. The procurement management provider depends on the size of the project and the organization.

Project Profiling

Using a Project Profile

Organizations lacked good tools to understand the needs of a project and match the project manager with the right skills and experience. You can characterize a project as domestic or global, and the location of the project becomes the profiling attribute.

Project Profiling Models

What are the two attributes of a project that Shenhar and Dvir used to characterize projects. What attributes used by Youker but not used by Shenhar and Dvir do you think are important?

Complex Systems and the Darnall-Preston Complexity Index

The quantity and quality of those assumptions will significantly affect the effectiveness of the project execution plan. The project environment includes all the conditions that can affect the outcome or success of the project.

Darnall-Preston Complexity Index Structure

Although the island ecology increased the complexity of the project, the clear objectives mediated the complexity of the project. The structure of the project's client organization and the organizational decision-making processes influence the project complexity.

Repeat the skill you practiced in the previous step to expand column B to accommodate the longest label (or your name) in column B. Use the skill you practiced in the previous steps to average the technological and environmental categories and display them in cells D9 and D13 respectively. Use the skill you practiced in the previous step to calculate the rounded values for each category.

Click cell E13 to display the ROUND function in the formula bar, as shown in Figure 2.12 "Round function rounds to the nearest whole number".

Project Phases and Organization

Project Phases

The activities that take place within the initiation phase of the project differ from each project. The initiation phase, which PMI refers to as "starting the project," includes all the activities necessary to start the project. The closure phase – or using PMI's nomenclature, “project closure” – represents the final stage of a project.

The execution phase, which PMI calls “doing the work,” includes the major activities required to complete the project's work.

Project Organization

The role of a project manager can vary depending on the complexity profile and organizational structure. The project quality manager is not responsible for the quality of the car produced by the factory. Describe an example of a situation where a partnership could affect the complexity of a project.

Provide an example of a situation where this reporting relationship could increase the complexity of the project.

Using the Darnall-Preston Complexity Index to Measure Organizational Complexity

The technology is in an early testing phase and your organization is one of the test sites. We recall that this category refers to the familiarity of the project team with the technology that is part of the project. The technology is new to some of the team members who are not in key positions.

Your task is to determine a DPCI assessment of the project team's familiarity with the technology.

Understanding and Meeting Client Expectations

Including the Client

Often the client does not have the project management experience of the project manager or the project team. An experienced project manager understands the phases of the project and the requirements of the different phases. What should the client know about the different management styles used in the initiation, execution and closure phases of the project.

If you were to do the project again, describe how you would manage the client's involvement.

Understanding Values and Expectations

Once the project team captures the client's expectations, the team develops a method for tracking performance against expectations. As the project team meets and exceeds the client's expectations, these expectations tend to change. The project team saw this behavior as rude and intrusive to the effectiveness of the project.

If the client believes the behavior of the project manager is unfair, then it is difficult to create a satisfied client.

Dealing with Problems

The project team discussed how many contingencies the project needed and how to notify the client. The project manager should deal with increased project costs early on. Decisions made in the conceptual phase of a project appear to be less effective in the design phase.

Because it was the client's decision, the project management was not warned of the possible risk.

Nurturing a Feeling of Satisfaction

This approach allows the project manager to reduce the intensity of the project when a milestone is reached. When customers speak at a celebration, their comments are usually high praise for the project team's work. This event provides the client with an opportunity to reflect and evaluate the project team's progress.

Celebrations should communicate the importance of the milestone to the project and celebrate specific achievements.

Nevertheless, the proper creation and distribution of this information can be integral to the overall success of your project. Working with People on Projects

Working with Individuals

Most experienced project managers are able to adapt their leadership approach to the needs of the project phase. One of the most important communication skills of the project manager is the ability to listen actively. The project manager also revealed that the client's future with the company would depend on the success of the project.

The amount of direction given to the purchasing manager or others on the project is at the discretion of the project manager.

Working with Groups and Teams

For example, in the early stages of a project, the team is focused on developing a conceptual understanding of the project. Problem solving teams are assigned to deal with specific issues that arise during the duration of the project. The Humm factor is essentially research that develops in the early stages of a project.

Each project manager can find a unique aspect of the project and create a sense of uniqueness to the project.

Creating a Project Culture

The difference between the official rules and the operational rules of the project created a culture that made it difficult to communicate priorities. The first meeting that project team members attended after joining the project was a security orientation. Members were given a card - a token - after the meeting that gave them permission to participate in the project.

The project was ultimately canceled by the US-based company as market and political risks increased.

Starting a Project

  • Project Selection

Projects are more likely to be funded if the project proposal closely aligns with the organization's mission. The project manager must be aware of that mission as he builds a team and aligns it to the project's goal. To calculate an IRR, the company considers the cash flow each year for the expected life of the project's product.

Simple payback period is a calculation of the year in which the cumulative revenue or savings from spending money on a project will equal or exceed the original cost of the project.
