Abstract

Failure of cement mantle of bond loosening between liner and cement mantle is an important issue in total hip replacement. Two factors that commonly cause cement mantle failure are initial crack and stress. A solution for reducing stress on the cement mantle has been proposed by adding insertion material between liner and cement mantle. Nevertheless, further study is needed to optimize the proposed solution. A possible option is to vary the thickness of the insertion material. If the thickness of the PMMA material is constant, then the variation of the insertion thickness will be followed by the variation of the thickness of the liner. Consequently, the stress value on the liner will follow the variation of liner thickness. The objective of this study is to examine the e ect of the thickness variation of the insertion material to stress on cement mantle and liner using nite element simulation. Results revealed that the magnitude of stress and de ection decreased in the cement mantle and the liner along with the increasing thickness of the insertion material.

Key words: Cement mantle / liner / PMMA / hip joint / crack, stress

Abstract

One of alternative waste-to-energy technologies to treat organic waste is anaerobic digestion. This study conducted by three stage of experiments using the laboratory scale biogas production from cow dung and rice husk as co-digestion. Based on the rst stage experiments, TS 10% gave the highest accumulation of biogas 458 ml and 506,95 ml. In the second stage of the experiments, 10 ml media in TS 20% gave the highest accumulation of biogas production (743.1 ml). The last stage of experiments showe d that Blank TS 30% with 5 ml media gave the highest accumulation of biogas production (922.2 ml). From the last stage we can conclude that the presented of rice husk as a co- digestion didn’t give the signi cant e ect to increase biogas production in anaerobic digestion, at least at room temperature. This caused by the high lignin and cellulose concentration in the rice husk that might resist or inhibit the production of biogas production. This is contrast situation when TS 40% occured, the existing of rice husk in AD will give positive impact to biogas produce.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain 1. How is the process of empowering coastal communities in utilizing the funds of the Government of Indonesia and the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) in District Merauke; 2. To get a model that can explain factor factors that in uence the implementation of coastal community empowerment that is environmentally sustainable and sustainable. The method used in this research is a qualitative research.

Research is undertaken by direct observation, literature observation, data collection, interviews, and FDG with parties or agencies that have been involved with the Coastal Community Development Project (CCDP), such as the Marine and Fisheries Service of District Merauke, and the District Merauke shery community. The result of this research: 1) The model of economic empowerment of coastal communities has encouraged people to use environmentally friendly and sustainable shing gear. 2) The main factors a ecting the successful implementation of coastal community empowerment include: (a) Resource, (b) ability, community, (d) commitment, (e) market (market) f) innovation (innovation) and (g) Participation (participatory).

Abstract

Rice husk is one of agricultural waste which have a potential to be processed into biogas. The aim of this research was to study the e ect of enzymatic pretreatment and C/N ratio to biogas production from rice husk by solid state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD). This research were operated in batch system and at room temperature. TS was set 21%. Enzymatic pretreatment was conducted using lignase enzyme. C/N ratio was varied from 35, 40, 45, and 50. The variation of C/N ratio is made by adding technical urea to the substrate. Biogas formed was measured by using water displacement method every two days. The result showed that enzymatic pretreatment could increase biogas production varied from 30 to 55 %. The highest biogas production was obtained at C/N ratio 35. Speci c biogas production on C/N ratio of 35, 40, 45, and 50 were 11.6, 10.2, 9.8 and 9.4 ml/grTS, respectively. SS-AD has volumetric loading of biogas production higher than generally in liquid anaerobic digestion (L-AD). Combined with our previous research with variations of C/N ratio 20, 25, 30, and 35, we obtained an optimum C/N ratio at 35.
