ABSTRACT

WAHYUDDIN, 2014. The Use of “Movie Trailer” to Increase Students’

Speaking Ability (A Classroom Action Research of Eleventh grade of SMK Bontoala Makassar), under the thesis of English Education Department, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, Supervised by Fahmi Room and Nunung Anugrawati.

This research aimed to explain how the Use of “Movie Trailer” increase the students’ speaking ability dealing with the vocabulary in speaking and explain how the Use of “Movie Trailer” to increase students’ speaking ability dealing with the pronunciation in speaking.

This research method used a classroom action research which consisted of two cycles with the subject was the students of eleventh grade of SMK Muhammadiyah Bontoala Makassar in 2013/2014 academic year which consisted of 23 students, and each cycle consisted of four meetings. The instruments of this research were observation sheet and speaking test or evaluation.

The research findings indicated that Movie Trailer Media could improve the speaking ability of the students. It was proved by speaking ability of the students’

mean score in cycle 2 test result was (7.35) which improved from the cycle 1 mean score (5.93). It was highly improvement from diagnostic test (D – test) mean score (5.25). The speaking ability of the students achievement in cycle 2 indicated that it had met the researcher score target (70,00), and considered to be successful criteria in improving the speaking ability through Movie Trailer Media.

Based on the findings above, the researcher made conclusion that using Movie Trailer Media could improve the speaking ability of the students.
