Phase II of the Science, Engineering and Technology Complex, currently under construction, will expand all departments in the College of Engineering and Technology on lUPUI's Michigan Street campus. Many prospective students may be eligible to begin their degree program in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at a higher level.

Special Credit

Occasionally, graduates of the School of Engineering and Technology may wish to expand their academic preparation to include courses typically taken by students completing degrees in another major. To achieve this, the student must obtain prior approval from the School of Engineering and Technology and complete all courses in a plan of study for students who will obtain the appropriate degree in that major.

Admission of International Students

Although graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology may not earn another associate or other degree, a special notation may be added to the student's academic record indicating an additional program equivalent to an additional degree in another major if the course of study is completed. A student may be required to complete a minimum number of credit hours that have not been used to fulfill requirements for any other major field of study or degree program.

Admission as a Nondegree Student

Approval is obtained in the manner noted above for students seeking to earn a second undergraduate degree.

Grades and Grade Reports

Basis of Grades

During the third quarter of a semester or session, students may withdraw from classes with the approval of their advisor and the appropriate instructors. At that time they must obtain the approval of their advisor, relevant instructors, and the dean, and must submit a written justification from a physician, clergy, counselor, etc.

PasslFail Option

During the last quarter of the semester, students will only be allowed to withdraw from classes under extenuating circumstances.

Good Standing

Scholarship Indexes

A part-time student is automatically on academic probation when either the cumulative semester index or the grade point average on the last 12 credit hours of consecutive enrollment is below 2.0 (C). Pursuant to this policy, only the grade F in the cumulative semester index can be replaced with a subsequent passing grade.

Graduation with Distinction

Graduation Requirements

Associate Degree

Registration for CAND 991 in the semester prior to or at the beginning of the semester of expected graduation as indicated in the student's program of study. Registration at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, either in residence or absent, during the semester or summer period immediately prior to the awarding of the degree.

Baccalaureate Degrees

These additional courses may not exceed 10 credit hours, and credit for these courses must be earned within three years of the date all other degree requirements have been completed. Students will meet graduation requirements if their graduation indexes, including additional courses, equal or exceed the minimum established at the time all other graduation requirements have been met.

Expenses and Financial Aid

In case a student under the age of 21 wants to use one of the above-mentioned credit cards from a parent, banking rules require prior consent from the parent.

Refunds

Financial Aid

Students who are eligible for veterans benefits may enroll in the following benefit tier, which is based on the number of credit hours in which the student is enrolled. Fall and Spring Semesters 12 or more credit hours 9 to 11 credit hours 6 to 8 credit hours Less than 6 credit hours.

Technology Plans of Study

Department of Computer Technology

It is recommended that students complete one of the sequences below within the 24 credit hour requirement for the computing concentration. It is recommended that a student complete one of the sequences below within the 21 credit hour computing concentration requirement.

Department of Construction Technology

Graduates can also continue their education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in construction technology. In addition, coursework in business and management and further training in written and oral communication are also included.

Department of Electrical Engineering Technology

Accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Students who receive an Associate in Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology are eligible to enroll in this Bachelor of Science program. The program provides additional study in electrical engineering technology and related technical and non-technical fields that are essential in modern industry.

This program is offered by the Department of Electrical Technology through the Department of Advanced Studies.

Department of Manufacturing Technology

Accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology, Inc. Graduates of the associate degree program in mechanical engineering technology are eligible for certification as associate engineering technologists. Successful completion of this program also automatically qualifies a student for admission to the Bachelor of Science program in mechanical engineering technology.

Accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology, Inc.

Department of Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management

The School of Consumer and Family Sciences, West Lafayette campus, offers many programs through the Departments of Child Development and Family Studies; Consumer sciences and retail; Foods and nutrition; and restaurant, hotel and institutional management. Students who wish to participate in any of the programs offered by these departments may begin their academic studies at IUPUI and transfer to the West Lafayette campus to complete remaining degree requirements.

Department of Supervision

Communications must include at least three writing courses; related technology must include at least two computer courses.

Undergraduate Engineering Programs

Undergraduate Engineering Curriculum

A minimum of 6 credit hours can be chosen in at least one department and a maximum of 12 credit hours in any department. No more than 6 credit hours of approved general electives may be scheduled in any semester. If credit by examination in a course is used to fulfill part of the general education requirements, a further 3 credit hours must be satisfactorily completed in the same department (except in the case of a foreign language, where an additional course must be in the same language).

Requirements for graduation include receiving credit in all required courses - at least 129 credit hours in the electrical engineering program or 130 credit hours in the interdisciplinary engineering program or 127 credit hours in the mechanical engineering program.

Graduate Engineering Programs

Enrollees in this classification may apply for admission to graduate studies as full-time graduate students; however, a maximum of 12 credit hours earned under the provisional classification of a graduate student may be applied to a graduate program if the individual is subsequently admitted as a full-time graduate student. Students who have already earned 12 credit hours under provisional classification will not be able to count credits earned in the semester in which they are awaiting admission as a full-time graduate student toward their degree programs unless admission is approved before the end of that semester. No course in which a grade of less than B has been received will be accepted as part of the degree plan if the course was taken at the time of enrollment as a temporary graduate student.

Students interested in provisional graduate classification, also known as non-degree enrollment after matriculation, should contact the office listed above.

General Degree Requirements

Master of Science in Engineering

Students choosing electrical engineering as their primary field are expected to take at least two 600-level electrical engineering courses.
