Judul Skripsi: Students' Perceptions of Using Google Meet in Learning English as a Foreign Language at the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Students' perception of the use of Google Meet in learning English as a foreign language at the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (A descriptive qualitative research at the fifth semester Students of English Education Department of the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar). This aim of the study was to know the students' perception of the use of Google Meet in learning English at the English Education Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.

Hasil penelitian ini menemukan persepsi positif siswa yang menggunakan Google Meet untuk belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing dalam kegiatan pembelajaran selama wabah pandemi covid-19. Google Meet sangat berguna dan bermanfaat untuk menunjang kegiatan pembelajaran karena mudah digunakan dan cukup terjangkau. Persepsi Mahasiswa Terhadap Penggunaan Google Meet Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Sebagai Bahasa Asing Di Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Penelitian Deskriptif Kualitatif Pada Mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar).

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa mengenai penggunaan Google Meet untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di Jurusan Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan persepsi positif siswa yang menggunakan Google Meet untuk belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di masa pandemi Covid-19. Google Meet sangat berguna dan berguna untuk menunjang kegiatan pembelajaran karena mudah digunakan dan cukup terjangkau.

Google Meet is one of the most popular video conferencing apps; during this epidemic, Google Meet has more users; according to Play Store statistics, Google Meet currently has 3 million users. The researcher is particularly interested in studying the use of Google Meet in learning English as Google Meet is a Google application with a more robust security mechanism than others. With a straightforward appearance, Google Meet offers an excellent user experience, high-quality video transmission, ease of creating and joining meetings, and the ability for the user to manage who is participating in the conference.

Based on these factors, the researcher suggests aligning the study's title with the title: Students' Perceptions of Using Google Meet in Learning English as Foreign Languange at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar B. Related to the statement above on the background , the researcher was to formulate a research question as follows: “What is the students' perception of the use of Google Meet in learning English as a foreign language in the fifth semester at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Based on the problem statement above, the researcher wants to describe the students' responses or perceptions of students about the use of Google Meet in learning English as a foreign language in the fifth semester at the Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.

The contribution is in the form of information and thoughts related to the use of application Google met to facilitate distance education. The researcher wants to know the students' perceptions of the use of Google Meet in learning English and focuses on the practicality, efficiency and affordability of learning English as a foreign language.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Some Pertinent Ideas

Perception can be stimulated by both the present and the past, the attitude of the individual at a particular time, the physical state of the sense organ, the interest of the individual, the level of attention and the interpretation given to the perception. As a result, their brains are already preoccupied with memories and responses to the data collection inventory (Adediwura & Tayo, 2007). According to the description above, students' perspective is how they think about what they have done or what they have learned.

Students' perception is the process by which students receive information about an item in a school environment, especially in the classroom, through sensory observation, so that students can give meaning to as well as interpretation of the observed thing. Google Meet is a video conferencing program designed and developed by Google for use in online meeting procedures. Google Meet enables users to conduct mobile meetings, virtual teaching and learning activities and training courses, as well as remote interviews.

Google Meet has tools to make high-quality video calls with groups of up to 250 people (Lobe et al., 2020). Advantages and disadvantages of the Google Meet app on listening and speaking skills for language learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to lack of space and time constraints, students feel more comfortable speaking.

In the future, online teaching and learning activities can be used for student training and system updates. In addition, according to Lobe et al., there are the advantages of the Google Meet application. There is a video encryption service that can prevent personal data stored in the application from being misused, such as theft or buying and selling of data.

Because the instructor is separated from the actions of his students during the learning process, the teacher cannot immediately monitor them. The free or open source version of Google Meet can invite a maximum of 25 people. Not all facilities are open source, users must purchase a package at Google Suite before they can use ever more complete functions, so that users are not free to use Google Meet.

Muhammadiyah from Makassar who had prior experience with teaching and learning processes through the Google Meet application. The researcher sought to ascertain students' perceptions of using Google Meet for English study at Muhammadiyah University in Makassar. The interview is a component of students' perceptions of using Google Meet for English language learning.

The above hypothesis is consistent with the findings of the study, which show that Google Meet is a suitable platform for use in pandemic situations. By using Google Meet, students became more engaged as it has video capabilities with high quality and clear voice. All students found Google Meet easy to use, students exclusively used their Gmail accounts.

Google Meet enables more flexible teaching and learning activities that can be done anywhere, anytime. According to the interview, almost all students understood the lecturer's presentation of the course and improved their skills when learning to use Google Meet. However, the Google Meet app has many tools to help the professor deliver the course.

The result of the interview showed that there are more students who have a different perception of the affordability when using the Google Meet application. Using google meet is affordable for all students than other platform because the price is cheaper. Students A said that google meet is affordable than other applications that need more quota like zoom.

This is because Google Meet is easy to use, students can join meetings without downloading the application. However, all students expressed satisfaction with Google Meet and had no reservations regarding its use. The interview revealed that it is reasonable for all students to use Google Meet as it is cheaper than using another platform.
