Vigna, with the exception of Otoptera and Spheno styl i s, is represented by far more species in the Old World than in the New. Enter the herbarium of the New York Botanical Garden, collected in Buena Vista, Sara, Santa. As currently predicated~ the plant falls in the genus Vigna, but it is very different from any other species of knov,m.

Type in New York Botanical Garden herbarium, collected in Barbados, West Indies, from vine J. Herbaceous, glabrous throughout; leaves trifoliolate; petioles about 88 as long as the leaves. stipules broadly triangular, 2 mm. Type herbarium of the Jardin Botanique, Brussels, collected in 8uruhres near San Mateo, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica, by P.

Another specimen in the Brussels herbarium was collected at the RCo Ceibo ncar Buenos Aires, Puntaareoas province, Costa Rica, Pittier 4981; and one in the Gray Herbarium on the Upper Moho River, British Honduras, Peck 745. Both are depicted by Hemsley in the Biologia Centrali-Americana.' The essential difference between the two supposed species was that the peduncles were of the former. This character disappears completely; some specimens in the National Herbarium have both types of peduncles on the same plant.
