REVIEW OF LITERATURE

This chapter presents the theories related to the topic and the previous studies related to the study.

2.1. Translation

According to Sun (2012) stated that the foremost well-known and most commonly utilized translation techniques are coordinate and free translation. Whereas this literal translation technique centers on each word, free translation alludes to a more inventive interpretation, looking past the real meaning of the word.

Larson (1998) stated that translation consists of transferring the meaning of the source language into the receptor language. When a translator does a translation, it means that they transfer the meaning of the source text. What is necessary is that the meaning must be maintained constantly or, in other words, when the change of form occurs, the meaning must be maintained.

The characteristic of a language is that the exact meaning component occurs in several surface- structure lexical items.

Translation means explaining ideas, meanings, or messages from a text from one language to another. There are many aspects to consider when translating. Translating ideas from texts means accuracy and clarity. It is important to consider that the reader will get clear information from the translation (Nugroho, 2007).

According to the several statements above, the researcher concludes that translation is a process of transferring the source language to the target language. It is also important to consider that the target language receives equal meaning from the source language.
