This means that students can easily identify the text's information. If students feel that they have some rate options and are less pressured, their reading interest may be higher. In fact, the benefit of reading is to provide students with knowledge that students never know before.
The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant relationship between reading interest and students' ability to find the main idea in a short text. Unlike previous research, the researcher focuses on the correlation between students' reading interest and reading comprehension. While this previous research by Fitriani focuses on students' reading interest and students' ability to find the main idea in a short text.
The second previous study is the correlation between students' reading interest and reading ability in the first-year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sendang Agung Lampung Tengah, conducted by Nurul Habibah. 26 Fitriani, “The correlation between reading interest and students' ability to find the main idea in a short text a study of second year students „ at SMA N 4 Malang in the academic year of thesis, University of Malang, Malang, 2008). 27 Nurul Habibah, "The correlation between students' reading interest and their reading ability in the eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sendang Agung Central Lampung in the first semester in the academic year of thesis, The State Institute for Islamic Studies of Raden Intan Lampung, Lampung , 2013 ).
While this previous research by Nurul Habibah focuses on the correlation between students' interest in reading and reading ability and there is no specific text in the research. He was a student of the Department of English at Lampung University.28 The purpose of his research is to find out the relationship between students' interest in reading and their reading comprehension. The results of students' interest in reading were evaluated using a Likert scale in the range of 1-5, and their reading comprehension was tested and made based on the materials they have learned.
The result also found that the reading interest of the students influenced the understanding of the reading interest of the students with 43.4%. Similar to this previous research, the same variable was used, reading interest and reading comprehension. 28 Ewo Priyo Susanto, "The Correlation Between Students' Reading Interest and Students' Reading Comprehension at the Second Year of SMA N 1 Punggur and Academic Year of Thesis, Lampung University, Lampung, 2016).

The research therefore only focuses on correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension. This means that there is a correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension at 10th Grade Industrial Automation SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo. This means that there is no correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension in grade 10 of Industry.
The table above shows that the students' reading interest scores varied. So it can be concluded that many students have an average score on students' reading interest. It can therefore be concluded that many students have an average score in reading comprehension.
The data on students' scores in reading interest and reading comprehension were analyzed by assumption test and hypothesis test. It means that the great interest in reading is followed by an increase in students' reading comprehension. In this study, the researcher used the formula of “r” Pearson product moment to know the relationship between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension.
To summarize, the data interpretation showed a finding that students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension correlate. The purpose of this study was to know the correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension at SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension at SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo.
This means that there is a connection between the students' interest in reading and the students' reading comprehension at SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo. Therefore, the researcher summarized that the students' interest in reading is related to the students' reading comprehension. The students should thus focus on improving the students' interest in reading in order to increase the students' reading comprehension optimally.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Statistic Descriptions
- The Students‟ Reading Interest Score
- The Students‟ Reading Comprehension Score
The researcher obtained data on the students' reading interest with a questionnaire, and data on the students' reading comprehension with a test. The reading comprehension test is based on Brown's theory of language assessment and consists of 20 questions. From the above table, the result of students' reading interest showed that 5 students or 14.8% are in good category, 25 students or 73.5% are in medium category and 4 students or 11.7% are in low category.
Statistic Inferential
- Assumption Test
- Hypothesis Test and Interpretation
From the table above, it can be seen that the result of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test with one sample is normally distributed. The table above shows that the reading interest questionnaire and the reading skills test show linear regression. According to the above table, out of 34 respondents, it was found that the relationship between two variables is 0.470.
The Pearson product moment shows that the correlation value is at the average correlation, between which. The average correlation means that the relationship tends towards a positive value and that there is no negative relationship. In other words, the students who are interested in reading are better at reading comprehension than the students who are not interested in reading.
Discussion
Steven also hypothesized that if students have a good reading interest in reading an English text, they will be able to master or score high in reading comprehension. Indeed, if students do not have good interests, they are not enthusiastic about reading English texts, which indicates that they have low reading skills. In order for students to understand the meaning, they should improve their reading comprehension, which of course needs comprehension, because reading comprehension is an important skill for getting general information, specific information, especially the main idea or topic sentence in a text.
Hidi argued that reading interest is central in determining the ways in which we select and process certain types of information in comprehension to others.50 This means that reading interest plays an important role in increasing reading comprehension. With self-interest in reading, the students are likely to be able to motivate themselves to learn to be independent, so that this can help them achieve maximum learning achievement. So if the students have an interest in any subject, they will understand and grasp the subject easily.
Therefore, it is very important to increase students' reading interest in every possible way, which can be done not only by the teacher, but also by the students themselves, with the support of parents and all school elements, so as to improve the reading skills of the students students to improve. optimal reading interest. Moreover, the table of 'r' product moments shows that the correlation between students' reading interest and students' reading comprehension at SMKN 1 Jenangan Ponorogo is at the medium level, between 0.40 and 0.70. It means that students who are interested in reading are better at reading comprehension than students who are not interested in reading.
Suggest to the English teacher to motivate and encourage the students to read as much as possible. They can use or find other factors that relate to and influence reading comprehension, not just related to interest in reading. The correlation between reading interest and students' ability to find the main idea in a short text a study of second year students „ at SMA N 4 Malang in the academic year 2007/2008.
The correlation between students' reading interest and their reading skills in the eleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Sendang Agung Central Lampung in the first semester of the academic year 2013/2014.
