Definition of Online Learning
As stated by Basilaia et al, online learning in a pandemic is an alternative solution (Irfan. Online learning is a part of distance and electronic education that has long been applied in the world of education. In online learning teachers and students who use the Internet to close their learning process and use electronic aids or another media.
The point is how the development of online learning-based learning creates a consistent and simple learning environment, so that students do not face difficulties in the learning process as well as in the navigation of content (materials and other learning activities). The medium in online learning can be fully online or mixed with face-to-face interactions. Picciano and Seaman as cited in Bakia, explained that fully online learning is a form of distance education in which all instruction and assessment is conducted using online, Internet-based delivery (Bakia, 2012, 2).
In this case, the definition of online learning is intended if the teacher designs a lesson that includes an environment that is accessed exclusively via the Internet.
The roles of student interactions in online learning
As a teacher, students should prioritize learning, such as material that is clear and easy to understand. Teachers should be aware of the individual differences between students and design teaching materials based on this awareness. Teachers need to know the basic skills of the students about the content to build new knowledge construction.
Teachers should provide an environment of collaborative learning, interactive discussion groups for easy and permanent learning for students with related materials. In providing material, the teacher should use collaborative learning as much as possible, such as group assignments and discussions for students. Teachers should provide appropriate feedback to students and help them connect the subjects.
Second is blended learning, in this system teacher and students do learning process in applications or media that enable face to face, such as zoom and google meet.
The Challanges in Online Learning During Pandemic
The teachers usually send the materials without further explanation, which makes the students more anxious because they cannot fully understand the lesson.
COVID-19
The teacher and students used voice notes and written messages to build classroom interaction. During the learning process, the researcher analyzed how the teacher and the students create the interaction in the classroom. Based on the result of this research, the author concludes that the challenges faced by the teacher and students in creating classroom interaction.
The decisions of the challenges facing the teacher and the students in online learning during pandemic. It aims to describe the classroom interaction between the teacher and students in online learning at MAN 2 Kota Bengkulu. The teacher and the students try to create classroom interaction even this condition.
In the MAN 2 kota Bengkulu at the second grade IPS 1, the teacher creates communication to the students to create the classroom interaction.

Research Setting
The reasons why the researcher chose this school because of the existence of COVID-19 which requires the learning activities to be online learning and the school which is quite good at doing e-learning.
Subject of Research
Technique of Data Collection and Research Instruments
- Observation
- Interview
- Documentation
According to Gor man and Clayton as cited in Utami, observation is a study that involves a systematic recording of a phenomenon or a particular behavior that can be observed in the natural environment (Utami, 2020, 48). The researcher would observe the classroom interaction in online learning between English teacher and students to find information needs in this research. However, this observation is a non-participant observation that the researcher is only in the study group as an observer and see how the interaction of the teacher and the students is.
This enabled the researcher to collect data on the purposeful, systematic and selective way of carefully watching and listening to an interaction or phenomenon as it takes place (Kumar, 2007). 1 a) Students' response, specific: Respond to the teacher within a specific, limited range of available or previously practiced responses, read a lot, discussion, exercises. 2 b) Students' response, open-ended or student initiated: Respond to the teacher with students' own ideas, opinions, reactions, feelings, give one of many possible answers previously practiced, but from which students must now make a choice, start the participation.
It is known that interview is a dialogue conducted by the interviewer to obtain information from the interview and obtain the data related to the behavior of the teacher and students during and after the learning process. This interview is an open-ended interview that allows the participants to best express their experiences, without being constrained by the researcher's perspectives or past research findings. In this interview, the researcher posed ten questions to the sample or respondent regarding the interaction between English teacher and students in the classroom.
During the interview, the researcher used a number of tools that were helpful in facilitating or conducting the interview process. The researcher posed questions to the English teacher and some students that would serve as an example. In the interview, the English teacher and some students gave answers to the researcher's questions based on their own opinions and experiences.
When the interview process takes place, the researcher records all the conversations using a recorder. Documentation was used as a supporting document to describe the authenticity of the data in the study.
Data Analysis Technique
- Data reduction
- Data Display
- Drawing and verifing conclusion
All documents and photographs used to support primary observation and interview data. The researcher must obtain a qualitative description of the types of speech of the teacher and students, the percentage of which will be calculated using the following suggested by (Sudijono 2011) as stated in Hikmah (2019, 40). Next, the researcher needs systematic procedures in data analysis so that the result can be systematically organized.
For this study, the most appropriate data analysis procedures are the Miles and Hubemman interactive model. In the middle stages, this is done through coding and remembering, and associated activities such as finding themes, clusters, and patterns. In the later stages, this is done through conceptualization and explanation, since developing abstract concepts is also a way of reducing the data.
The activities in this phase are: descriptively and systematically make a summary to easily get to know the central idea and interpret it critically. It describes how multiple methods can be used to triangulate within the same case (i.e. confirm and deepen understanding by using multiple sources all targeting the same process/event).
Trustworthiness
This category is very clear which is done by the teacher to encourage the students to be active in the class. Although during the teaching and learning process, the teacher and students can improve their understanding and develop interaction in the classroom. According to the result of classroom interaction in online learning, it was also shown that the teacher took over most of the lessons.
The teacher's questions to the students to initiate the interaction during the learning process. During the learning process, the teacher can use students' ideas to value students' contributions. It is the second point in FLINT System categories that the teacher had made.
In this category, the students are asked by the teacher to express their own ideas, opinions, reactions, feelings and others. It is done by the teacher to build the interaction and encourage the students to be active during the teaching and learning activities.
