The results of this research show that: 1) there are 16 values ​​of character education in the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris. Values ​​that are not found in all the readings and dialogues of the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris are the values ​​of honesty and social awareness. Curiosity needs to be developed, strengthened and given the right answers because the problem of various destructive behaviors in the younger generation usually stems from curiosity not getting the right answer. Today, the value of patriotism should be taught more amid the acceleration of globalization that is spiraling out of control. Amidst the competitive and pragmatic life, teachers must teach their students that performance is important.

DISCUSSION AND INTERPRETATION

Analysis of the Dominant Types of Character Education Values in English Textbook

The dominant type of character education values ​​in the English textbook titled Bahasa Inggris is friendly/communicative value. Terkait dengan implementasi Kurikulum 2013, apakah materi dalam buku (khususnya pada bagian membaca dan dialog) sudah mengintegrasikan 18 nilai pendidikan karakter yang dikemukakan Kemendikbud?

Adakah saran/masukan yang ingin disampaikan terkait penerapan pendidikan 18 karakter dalam buku berbahasa Inggris? Hasil wawancara mengungkapkan bahwa menurut Pak Daryanto, buku teks berjudul Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan di SMAN 2 Ponorogo masih belum lengkap baik dari segi materi pelajaran maupun nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung dalam buku tersebut. Menurut saya, untuk bagian dialog dan juga teks bacaannya, hanya ada beberapa nilai pendidikan karakter yang dikemukakan oleh Kemendikbud.

Selain itu, buku ini masih belum memuat nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang diusulkan Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. Ya, menurut saya buku ini memuat beberapa nilai pendidikan karakter yang dikemukakan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan.

Sebab menurut saya materi dalam buku ini kurang lengkap, sehingga dapat disimpulkan dari segi implementasi Pendidikan 18 Karakter dalam buku ini juga kurang lengkap.

Dalam pemahaman saya, pendidikan karakter adalah pengetahuan atau pengajaran etika dan sikap yang diajarkan di sekolah. Tidak ditulis secara langsung sehingga harus benar-benar dipahami untuk mengetahui nilai pendidikan karakter dalam bacaannya. Sebaiknya nilai-nilai tersebut dimaksimalkan dan dimasukkan ke dalam materi, sehingga siswa dapat langsung memahami nilai pendidikan karakter dalam bahan bacaan bahasa Inggris.

Ke depannya, Meifa berharap buku ini lebih banyak memuat pendidikan karakter yang terintegrasi langsung sehingga nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang relevan mudah dipahami siswa. Menurutnya buku ini cukup lengkap, materi yang diajarkan serta nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung di dalamnya mudah ditemukan karena masih berkaitan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari. Hal ini tentunya berdampak pada siswa karena belum memahami apa itu pendidikan karakter, sehingga menurut mereka pengintegrasian nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter pada buku berbahasa Inggris masih belum maksimal.

Sedangkan jika ada materi atau nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang belum dipahami, ia mengulanginya dengan UKBM (Unit Kegiatan Belajar Mandiri) yang diberikan oleh guru bahasa Inggris terkait pembelajaran bimbingan belajar.
