Your response is determined by whether you are in immediate danger, and whether you can leave.
- Run: An active shooter within the facility but the employee is not in imminent danger and has the opportunity to leave.
- Hide: An active shooter within the facility, the employee is not in imminent danger but circumstances do not allow the opportunity to leave.
- Fight: The active shooter is in the immediate vicinity and the employee is in imminent danger or under actual attack.

Notification
- 911 when you ran and are safe- 22 from a hospital phone when you’re hiding
- If you cannot speak, leave the line open and allow the dispatcher to listen
- What to tell the operator: current location, description of shooter, type of weapon, direction of flight

Run
- Evacuate if there is an accessible path.- Leave belongings behind.
- Keep hands visible.
- Prevent others from entering danger area - Attempt to help others escape
- Do NOT move wounded - Run even if other don’t follow
- Rally points: Oncology overpass, ED parking lot, Employing parking garage

Hide
- Lock any doors that can prevent access to your area - Blockade the door with heavy furniture and equipment - Silence cell phones and pagers- Turn off sources of noise such as televisions and radios - Hide behind items (i.e. cabinets, desks, etc.)
o Be out of the active shooter’s view
o Provide protection if shots are fired in your direction o Not trap you or restrict your options for movement - Remain quiet

Fight
- Act as aggressively as possible against shooter - Throwing items and improvising weapons - Yell- Commit to your actions

Police Response
- Put down any items in your hands
- Immediately raise hands and spread fingers - Keep hands visible at all times
- Avoid making quick movements towards officers such as attempting to hold on to them for safety - Avoid pointing, screaming and/or yelling
- Do not stop officers to ask for assistance or direction - Remember: The police do not know who you are!
- Administration will notify you when safe to return to patient care
